Decided to make a Berserk thread because this

Anyone here watched the anime? What about the Manga? You should give it a try. It's great. For introductions I'll use the Berserk Wiki

About Berserk
Kentaro Miura first premiered Berserk in 1988 with a 48-page prototype, which won a prize at the Comi Manga School where he was enrolled at the time. On 26 November 1990, the first volume of the manga was published by Hakusensha in its Jets Comics collection. Three more volumes appeared until Berserk was serialized by Young Animal (Hakusensha) in 1992, and new episodes are still being released in the biweekly (every second and fourth Friday of the month) magazine. Volumes are still published biannually in Japan by Hakusensha (Jets Comics collection), and contain 8-11 episodes depending on the release.

In America, the manga is translated and published by Dark Horse Comics, which has released 23 volumes so far, the first in October 22, 2003. As with other Dark Horse manga releases like Hellsing or Trigun Maximum, the Japanese reading format from right to left is preserved in the English release and the sound effects are left untranslated in the earlier releases, but are translated in later books starting from volume 12. The company has also started incorporating references to fantasy films, such as Army of Darkness and Lord of the Rings, into the dialogue. However, the content in general remains untouched.

In Europe, the manga was introduced back in 1996, first in France (Samourai Editions), then in Italy (Panini Comics, under its Marvel Manga - later Planet Manga - imprint) a few months later. The manga has also been translated and released in Germany (Panini Comics/Planet Manga) and in Spain (MangaLine Ediciones) since 2001. In France, after Samurai Editions' bankruptcy, the comic series is now published by both Dynamic Visions (since 2002) and Glénat (since 2004), the latter edition being a larger format. A two-books-in-one Max edition (400+ pages) is also published in Germany and Italy since 2006 (Panini Comics). As of yet the series is not being published in Poland.

In Asia, Berserk manga has been published in South Korea since 1999 by Dai Won. In Latin America, Panini Comics has published the manga series in a demi-sized (120 pages) edition in Brazil (2005)

Before official English translation copyright was agreed with Dark Horse Comics, fan-based scanlation of the manga was performed by The Hawks and later on Evil Genius. These scanlations were hugely popular among the English speaking Berserk fans. Upon Dark Horse Comics releases, the corresponding scanlation volumes were taken off these websites to avoid copyright infringement.

Characters
Guts

In the first three volumes, he was depicted as a tall, muscular male with a huge sword called the Dragonslayer, and a prosthetic left mechanical arm that has a magnetic grip and also conceals a cannon & repeater crossbow. He is obsessed with his task, having no feelings or sympathy for any others who came across his path or get caught in the cross-fire. Guts did not flinch from using the Count's daughter as a hostage to kill him. He was always attacked by evil spirits at night, which gave him no rest due to the sacrificial Brand on his neck.

In the Golden Age Arc, more of Guts' past was revealed, explaining why he had become so obsessed with killing and revenge. He is born as one who may be able to struggle against causality.

Griffith

He is the founder and leader of the mercenary army  Band of the Hawk. Extraordinarily charismatic and handsome, his tactical skill gave him and his army the reputation of invincibility, and the favor of the King of Midland, who was locked in a century-old war with the Empire of Tudor. Due to his many important victories in this war, he is made Lord Protector of Midland by the king, despite his common ancestry.

Griffith was willing to sacrifice everything for the dream of his own kingdom, believing that he is destined for things greater than the average man. Early in his career, he won Guts' service in a duel and Guts became his sword in both the battlefield and in his political fight with disgruntled Midland nobles. A large part of his success was due to Guts' fighting ability and Griffith grew to be dependent on Guts, although their relationship was not exactly friendship.

Caska

She was born and raised in a poor mountainous farming village along an unspecified border between two warring nations (possibly Midland and Tudor or Midland and the Kushan  Empire). Her parents sold her into a local lords' service at a young age, but he attempted to sexually assault her before they could even reach his estate. She was rescued by Griffith and the first members of the Band of the Hawk; interestingly, Griffith did not rescue her directly, but lent her a sword which she used to kill the noble. With nowhere else to turn, she learned to wield a sword and joined the Hawks, eventually rising to the rank of commander. Until Guts arrived, she was Griffith's Second-in Command.

Skull Knight

The Skull Knight first appeared to warn  Guts after he left the  Band of the Hawks  about the group's future demise. His horse appears to be able to fly and jump upon trees. Over the course of Guts' journey, he saved him several times and also seemed to manipulate events around Guts for his own purpose of revenge. He called Guts "struggler", who forever is fighting against fate.

The Skull Knight kills apostles and monsters with ease and can fight evenly with Zodd even in his true demonic form. He swallows the behelits which he recovers from slain apostles. In doing so, he apparently destroys and reforms them as his Sword of Resonance, which can cut through space and time dimension.

Zodd

Zodd, also known as Nosferatu Zodd and Zodd the Immortal, is a powerful Apostle. He resembles a 7-8 foot barbarian warrior in human form, and a humanoid Bull-Lion nearly twice that size when transformed. He also has wings which he can make appear and disappear at will, allowing him to fly.

He wandered from battlefield to battlefield seeking ever-stronger opponents and is known as a rival of the Skull Knight. He is considered by many mercenaries as the "god of the battlefield" and has lived hundreds of years without meeting a worthy human opponent.

There are, of course, more characters, more story and more everything. This is a long running series after all. But I don't want to give too much away in case anyone is interested.
One mention of LEGENDS and everyone goes batshit.  :\

Yep, every time when someone mentions that game people get energized for an apparent reason whatsoever. It's like this everywhere else, trust me.

It got really messy to find my sprite and comic topic, so it's in my sig.

Archer

I like how everyone wants to [twin slasher] Casca. Fun times.

Archer

According to the Young Animal magazine, the first film of the Berserk Movie series will premiere in January 2012.

And according to the official twitter, the film project of Berserk will last more than a decade.

A whole decade or more of Berserk movies. Isn't that just exciting?

Don't worry, the whole movie won't use CG in all scenes, as proven from this music video

Song is the movie's ending credits.

I dunno, I think it's kinda charming.

It came out yesterday in theatres in Japan.  I dunno what Warner Bros plans to do though, but i'm positive there will undoubtedly be a North American theatrical english release (considering it's Berserk.  Manga sells pretty damn well in the NA) so....we just gotta be patient.

Also, this track from the movie's OST is [tornado fang]ing BRILLIANT!!!

Archer

BLOOD AND GUTS

Rin

While listening to the song, I thought it sounds awfully like Shiro Sagisu's stuff... then I checked info and behold... it's him.
GONNA GET THE OST.

The Drunken Dishwasher

The Drunken Dishwasher

commiesubs did it, go nuts!

aside from a few odd CG problems here and there, it's pretty damn good :D

Archer

The hand drawn sequences are beautifully animated but the CGI parts are simply horrendous, lazy, and laughable, don't try to kid yourselves otherwise. As a fan of the manga, I think it's insulting they were so lazy to use such poor CGI, considering how Miura takes his bloody time to deliver excellent visuals.

Everything else was awesome - though it was a little short.

The Drunken Dishwasher

You have to admit that the Assassination fight sequence perhaps made the best use of CG and Handdrawn.  and of course, sword to the nuts.
