And I admit that Vincent Dirge is based off of Vincent Valentine from FFVII. Though with major tweaks to separate him from Vincent FFVII with his appearance, personality, and fighting style.
Besides knowing only the name doesn't give you a look at what their personality.

All I'm going to say here is VC, as much as you might have put effort into doing this, have your own ideas and have gotten this far, it would be wise for you to take a good step backwards and re-evaluate everything that you've put towards this game of yours. Take Sky's (excellent) advice and detach yourself from other video game inspirations for a bit and give everything a bit more scrutiny.

Also, do keep in mind that inspirations can come from anywhere, not just the "flavor of the month" media.

Hmm this makes me wonder if some of the names I came up with for my fan fiction seem a little unoriginal.

Ami Rozu - Dark Pink Hair, Light Emerald Eyes, 15 years old

- Hates men (she calls them perverts) and no interest in them
- Powerhouse Black-Belt Fighter
- Doesn't have a lot of friends, save only two
- Fights using her bare hands only
- Short-Temper but thinks calmly
- Refuses to work in teams (most of the time)


Amy Rose - Pink Hair, Emerald Eyes (I think), 12 years old

- Loves only Sonic
- Kick-boxing
- Have lots of friends
- Fight using a Hammer
- Short-temper and flies off the handles
- Fights with alongside her friends


They don't seem all that same to me besides the hair and eye colors. Besides Ami's first name was already in mind, though the last name was tricky and stuck with Rozu, a rose, as she's a beautiful young girl and vicious as a snake.

What the hell?! They're basically the same thing, just with extremely tiny changes to them.

Gonna drop in with a quick fact check.  "Ami" does mean "friend" in French.  "Mon ami" is "my friend."  "Bon ami" is "good friend." 

And to add to the discussion...  Fanon is perfectly fine.  I write and draw a good bit of fanon.  But, I don't claim my fanon as original ideas.  They may be original fanon, but they're still fanon.  And your characters fall into that fanon category.  If you wanna write fanon, that's fine.  Everyone writes fanon. 

But don't claim that your fanon is entirely original.  It's one thing to make fan characters, it's another to rip off of other stuff and claim ignorance to the source material.  There are such things as copyright laws, and if you decide to publish your game in its current state, you would be breaking copyright laws.  Seriously, as others have said, you need to take a step back and reevaluate your work.  Take breaks from Sonic games for a while as well.  Don't totally shut yourself off from everything though, just start working at getting inspiration in other more legal ways. 

I'll be honest with you, there are no original ideas out there anymore.  Everything's been done.  But, what people do is put an original spin on an old idea.  What can you do to make your stuff original?  Use your imagination.  Think of a situation in your game's story and then think of different ways it can be done.  As for your characters?  To be blunt, the names need a serious overhaul.  Not every name has to be Japanenglish.  Don't tie your characters down to one nationality.  Broaden their horizons.  Be creative. 

We're not telling you this to pick on you.  We're trying to help.  Whether you wanna accept the help is up to you.

Also don't give that many people last names it just looks kind of weird.  Heck I haven't even come up with a last name main character of my fan fiction yet.  If you want I could come up with new names for your characters just don't ask me to make a last name.

This is my 59th sketch batch made by me.


This time around I used the Naruto character "Tsunade" as reference to practice drawing different facial expressions of angry and shock as well as drawing some of Naruto's hands.

The bottom eye one was done by me original using the Naruto drawing style of a side-view eye/face.

I got names from naming generators. Its hard to find or make names with a meaning that is exact to the character's personality.

Say hello to my 60th sketch batch! I getting the Manga-like drawing style down almost!

Trying different experiments with hands, feet, angle and Character Faces. The bug-eyed old man originally was just someone bugging out as a normal young man before I added more.

Still working on the hands and feet a bit. Also I made a crazy long-tongue dude to practice a little of the bird's eye view.

The big sketch looks really good in my opinion. Captures that traditional Manga feeling to it, a bit.
