I don't know if there's a thread already.

Basically, the government would like Internet Service Providers to monitor all activity on their networks, from all computers belonging to all users. They think it'll be a good way to cut privacy down to nonexistance, but their methodology is completely wrong. They're watching every single thing you do. They will see you log in to MSN and talk to your internet girlfriend. They will see you get on Skype and yell at people on TF2 and ignore the actual conversation you are in at the time. They will know what you're fapping to.

Let's say they actually catch someone pirating something. A poor 14 year old girl who can't afford a CD player downloads a Justin Beiber song with Limewire, the ISP starts sending increasingly threatening emails to her parents until eventually they cut off their service and sue the family for their entire life's savings. Say goodbye to higher education, Sally. Say goodbye to retirement, Mom and Dad.

We can only do so much, as the people shelling out the cash to the ISPs. Even though Internet Petitions usually don't do [parasitic bomb], this is still something to be aware of. We can't just sit here and let the highest bidder run our lives, guys.

Judging by the more recent events, the European Union - the other major power in the negotiations - is becoming increasingly conflicting with the US, leading to the possibility that they might just get fed up and walk away, or the talks will break down due to clashing interests. Not only that, but emerging powers - India, China (ya rly) and Brazil - seem to be firmly against it and have been calling the US out on it.

If the EU walks away, the US is probably going to be pretty [tornado fang]'d with regards to gaining and keeping any sort of support. Even if the US is willing to compromise and grovel for the EU to get back on board, though, it's likely going to stir up a lot of trouble at the negotiating table. Either way, things aren't looking too good for the US's chances of doing this how they want to.

The villain in that movie was the initial creator of the Surrogates masquerading as a cult leader in order to wipe out all Surrogates in the world and return humanity to the way it once was. That could be what Gaia's referring to.

But I'm getting off-topic here, the point is, ACTA won't get anywhere in this country regarding the internet. The internet will continue to stay as it is and even more. Where maybe using an interactive hologram instead of a monitor would be possible in the future, and etc.

Anyways, it isn't that hard to pull off "Big-Brother" on the net anyways, other people do it all the time through facebook stalking and otherwise. Yes, I know, the reference and quote is out of context but it's relevant, no?

Actually, I think you're all making a bit of a fuss out of something which would never escalate to Skynet proportions.

Imagine this. You're worried somebody will be watching YOU. YOU personally, that people will be watching you to see if you do anything.

What's so [tornado fang]ing special about you? Why would the government want to watch every single person who is online all the time? They'll probably monitor your activity if you go on extremist political websites, or watch pedophile porn, but otherwise, why would they even take up their precious time to check what you're doing? Sure, they may make what's pretty much a profile of you, and everytime your name comes up, your online activity will be known. But besides that? People are placing too much importance on themselves.
