Mewtwo stared hard at Sapph, "You seem... uncomfortable..."

[Dr. Wily II]

(YOU WORRY TOO MUCH SAPPH ENJOY THE COMPANY... OH WELL )

[Sapphire Knight]

"Y'know, it's rude to read peoples' minds without asking." Sapph replied, turning his attention to Mewtwo. "But, then again, I suppose that's kinda how you keep the sushi restaurant from getting swarmed with reporters and rockets."

"Wait... Why did you ask me about my katana when you're carrying around a short sword?" Sakura asked, crossing her arms. "Seems like you'd have known why."

Sapph's brow twitched. "There are things... I'd rather not fully explain... But I suppose I should, since I have a bad feeling the past is gonna come back to kick me in the crotch soon... Y'all might wanna get comfortable, this is gonna be a long story, but I might need to give PB the abridged version later."

[Quickman]

"The shame of that past is not yours," Mewtwo nodded sagely. "It belongs to those who use your past to set you apart."

(I'm in Wushu mode, so I'm only tackling NPCs.)

[Pyro]

For some inexplicable, reason Pyro walked out of the men's room at Quickie's restaurant with a spring in his step, his trusty Zorua on his shoulder, and whistling a vaguely familiar tune. He skipped towards the supply closet and slammed the door shut. When the door creaked open, the closet was empty save for a mop and other janitorial supplies. So where did he go? A door near Giovanni opened and Pyro jumped out. He turned to the Rocket Boss beaming with a goofy smirk.

Pyro: Hey Luigi! Do you know where I can find the closet to Pallet Town?

The boy somehow learned to jump through spacetime using closets. Somewhere in another dimension, Palkia weeps.

(My triumphant return breaks time and space. Hooray!)

[Sakura Leic]

(Damn I wonder which closet he went into first.)

[Pyro]

(I'm going to assume he entered through the Trainer House/Pokemon Academy closet.)

[Sakura Leic]

(Ah I forgot that the Trainer House was in Viridian.  Jeez I'd almost say this guy is weirder than the Wilypocalyse counterpart.)

[Pyro]

(I would say he is off the wall and bouncing off the ceiling.)

[Quickman]

Giovanni stood there, gaping blankly at Pyro.  He shook his head quickly and ordered his grunts to remove Pyro from the premises.  "GET OUT!"

He turned away from the door and brought his attention back to his ruined desk.  Important documents buried beneath this pile of used litter, destroyed.  And the smell!  That pungent smell!  He idly wondered if this litter belonged to his Persian.  Perhaps he has a disgruntled agent in his midst...  Well, that fool will be taken care of in due time.  

No... that wasn't his Persian's litter.  The odor was far too strong.  His Persian was on a specialized diet designed to reduce gas and odor.  And he personally oversaw the removal of the old litter.  This wasn't his Persian's litter.  Most certainly not, due to the fact that his Persian was dewormed regularly and the last Pokemon Center visit confirmed that the creature was free of parasites.  He turned to one of his assistants.  "Take a sample to the lab and have it analyzed.  Find out where this came from!"

The assistant nodded, collected a sample, and was out the door within minutes.

Giovanni heaved a long, heavy groan.  Today simply was not his day.

Once the group was in Quickie's apartment and settled in, Sapph started his story.

"Years ago, in Johto, a group of renegade Team Rocket members went on a rampage. Their trouble-making started with mutilating slowpokes for their tails... I think you'd know most of the story about what they were doing..." He said, clearing his throat once he realized he went off-track.

"ANYWAY, what wasn't put in the paper is who was the ringleader behind the incident was a man who called himself Obsidion. While it's accepted that they were trying to bring Giovanni out of hiding to lead them again, the truth of it was that they started out of rebellion towards Giovanni, having decided that he was unfit to lead after having been defeated by some random trainer that just started their journey less than 6 months before his defeat.

I had tracked Obsidion down to their base in Mahogany Town while some other trainers were running wild and battling the grunts. I followed after him while he fled, realizing that his plans were ruined at the moment, but could be continued if he escaped. The chase continued to Mt Silver. I imagine that this was when the rest of Team Rocket had cracked and hijacked Goldenrod's radio tower to find Giovanni..."

Sapph tapped his chin. "I climbed the mountain as a snow storm raged on, thinking that I either had him trapped or was going to chase him down the mountain and into Kanto, but I was wrong. He had led me to the top for a showdown, and an ambush. His first strike slashed me from the shoulder to the hip, making the rest of the fiht for me difficult. I don't really remember how the fight went, only that I also had a huge hole in my stomach and Obsidion was falling off of a cliff with his head departing from his shoulders. Next thing I was fully aware of was that I was mostly healed an in a hotspring at the very top of Mt Silver with a larvitar that had led me there."

[Quickman]

"Disgusting what some people do..." Quickie muttered, and then she stood.  "So... anyone want anything to drink?"

Mewtwo, meanwhile, seemed quite interested in Sapph's story, which Quickie found a bit odd--the Pokemon usually retreated to his room and spent the rest of the evening alone before he would prowl at night.  This time, however, he was seated in the living room, listening intently.  "What happened to this offshoot group?"

[Sapphire Knight]

"Anyone who read the newspaper the next day could tell ya that." Sapph answered. "Yet another newbie trainer stormed the Radio Tower and beat 'em." He said. "Also, to prove it actually did happen and am not just telling some big fish story..." He lifted his shirt to reveal 2 very large scars: A vertical slash going from his left shoulder to his hip, and a large, jagged circle on the right side of his stomach, a look on his back would reveal a matching circle.

[Quickman]

Quickie lowered her voice slightly.  "Mewtwo doesn't read... or rather can't read.  So, obviously, he wouldn't know."  She shrugged.  "But, those are some serious war wounds you got there.  And they healed in a spring?"

Mewtwo looked at Quickie for a moment, but decided against the silent exchange.  It was best, he decided, to keep his thoughts to himself.  He returned his gaze to Sapph.  "After that faction dissolved, did he take any action?  Did he acknowledge that group, or was he content to just put it behind him?"  It was obvious that he was trying to avoid saying Giovanni's name.

[Pyro]

Giovanni's day would get even worse as Pyro effortlessly gave Giovanni's mooks the slip and pulled out a permanent marker. In a blur he sketched a bushy mustache on the Rocket's boss' lip and climbed up his back to place a green cap (with an "L" on the front) on his head.

"Momma mia! Maybe you should stomp on a couple Parasects and maybe a Wartortle then you could be 'super.'"

He turned to Giovanni's desk and held his nose.

"You know that's not a toilet, right?" he asked and then shrugged with his free arm, "At least it's not on fire."

And Pyro just had to say it because the pile of litter on Giovanni's desk spontaneously combusted into a towering inferno, which set off the fire sprinklers on the floor. Any mook or administrator unfortunate to work there heard a brief crackle before their computer screens suddenly went blank to say nothing of how the gushing water ruined Ariana hair after she just had it styled yesterday. Loki snickered and Pyro bolted off to get outta dodge.

(Ah, I love making a crime boss' life harder, and how can I be called "Pyro" if something did not burst into flame? )

[Sapphire Knight]

"Ah." Sapph said, putting his shirt down. "But, yeah, it was hot springs up on the tip top of Mt Silver that healed them. I think they were called the Ho-oh Springs." He explained, Mewtwo starting to go on about 'him'. "I honestly wouldn't know if 'he' got involved, I was recovering from, what I thought would be, fatal injuries. I only know what happened after I chased Obsidian to Mt Silver because I read into the news archives when I finally could get down from the summit it one piece."

[Quickman]

Mewtwo nodded slowly and fell silent, thinking about something.  Quickie returned with the drinks--some juice mix she had made earlier--and set the pitcher and cups on the table.  She looked to Sapph.  "So, after that bit, what did you do?  Did you go into hiding?  If I recall, you were mentioned, but to what capacity, I forget.  Like I said, haven't been following the paper much, I only get it for the crosswords, and Mewtwo can't read."

Meanwhile, in Viridian City...

Giovanni threw the cap to the floor, stormed off to his bathroom, and washed his face as best as he could.  He had dealt with permanent marker before--an unfortunate encounter with a Jigglypuff in his younger days--so he made sure to stock his restroom with cleanser to remove it.  He splashed water onto his face and stood there, hands gripping his sink, glowering into his mirror as water dripped from his nose and eyebrows.  Today has been utter chaos.  Complete and utter chaos.  And that lunacy in his own office!  His private sanctuary--defiled!

Thankfully, he had the foresight to procure samples of that unknown litter before that little maniac set it ablaze. 

Deciding it best to leave the gym for the day, Giovanni dried his face, left the restroom, acknowledged the grunts engrossed in the cleanup, and slipped unnoticed through a door.  He descended a flight of stairs and keyed in a sequence, swiped a card, keyed in another sequence, and finally unlocked a door, which he walked through and immediately secured behind him.

Gym duties can wait.  He has a few proteges who can man the gym for the time being.  His heels clicked against the waxed floor as he strode down the long, darkened corridor to his other office.  As he walked in a tense, irritated silence, he stopped for a moment beside a set of thick glass windows that looked into an empty, dark room.  A lone light from some piece of equipment blinked forlornly in a corner.  Giovanni's eyebrows knitted together as he set his jaw.  "Worthless beast."  The word was practically spat.

His heel clicked and he resumed his trudge to his office.

[Pyro]

(I like to believe that Pyro is the living embodiment of chaos and he's not done with Giovanni just yet. )

Pyro somehow managed to sneak into Giovanni's secret office and swiveled around in the chair when the door opened. Loki sat in his lap while Mr. Spook's smile appeared on the Rocket boss' shadow. One had to wonder why the boy showed no fear of the most powerful man in Kanto. He stroked the tuft of fur around the Zorua's neck.

"So this is what an uber-rich megalomaniac's office looks like," he said and started pressing buttons on Giovanni's desk, "Where do you keep the Sharpedoes with laser cannons on their heads, and want to pet my platypus?"

(Oh god Sharpedos with frikken lasers on their heads! )

[Pyro]

(Oh ho ho! That is just the beginning of what I have planned... and Quickie's fridge apparently contains a portal to Pallet Town. )

[Quickman]

Giovanni slammed the door shut, turned on his heel, and stalked up the hall, back to the locked door, stormed up the stairs, ordered a full sweep of the compound, lethal force if necessary, and left the gym.  He got into his car, started it, and drove home.

[Pyro]

(Well, I have demonstrated that Pyro uses closets for transportation, why not household appliances?  )

Only to find a Wailord swimming in his swimming pool or it would have been if the leviathan was not too big. It blew a spout of water from its blowhole, which launched Pyro high into the air and he twisted his body in midair like a gymnast and made a perfect landing. He raised his hard and a previously nonexistent audience applauded while the judges gave their scores.

"?, e=mc2, bermuda shorts, can of Dr. Pepper"

[Quickman]

Giovanni threw his hands into the air and gave up.  He went inside and decided that today was a day to work from home... or rather raid the liquor cabinet.
