Blue Valkyrie

The bit where Spock was going through "Prime" spock's belongings made me ;_; a little-perfect respectful nod to Lenard Nemoy.

Simon Peg really did his research for this movie, looking forward to movie 4 or it 14?  8D

Protoman Blues

What I like is that the movie universe and the show universe are definitely going to be two separate things!

Blue Valkyrie

Yeah once the Narada destroyed the USS Kelvin a new timeline was created-in the next generation Worf had a similar experience where he jumped from parallel timeline to parallel timeline and they all exist without interfering with the others.

So the Prime timeline is still around just minus Ambassador Spock and the Narada. New series I belive takes place in the prime timeline too between the TMP movies and TNG?

Protoman Blues

Yeah, supposedly! Not sure exactly where or when yet, but I'm looking forward to it!

There is a good 70 years between Kirk vanishing in generations-and Picard becoming captain of the enterprise-D.

Things like the Tomed Incident (where the romulans led some sort of attack on the federation that ended in the Romulans agreeing to retreat from galactic politics) and the Cardasian war.

So tons to draw from.

Pyro

Saw a late-afternoon show of Suicide Squad. Man, I think the critics are really off the mark with this one. It was good in my opinion, but pretty flawed.
Come and read some Thoughts of a Platypus

I also very much enjoyed Suicide Squad, despite its flaws. My original concern with it pretty much came to pass though.
The Joker. I didn't mind Leto's performance from what little I saw of it. The main issue is that, aside from the brief Harley flashbacks, he should not be in this movie at all. He really does not serve a purpose in this movie. He has nothing to do with the primary plot at all and him being in it is a distraction away from the rest of the movie. What makes it even more problematic is that the trailers really promote him being in this movie and he's not, nor should he be.
Other than that, I enjoyed it! Smith is fantastic as Deadshot, Margot is spot-on as Harley, and Viola Davis is absolutely FLAWLESS as Waller.

People are being sooooooooo ridiculous over this movie. Hell, over a LOT of movies lately.

Sakura Leic

Well honestly I extend the "ridiculousness" to almost everything in society now and it saddens me just as much as it amuses me.

Police Girl

Yeah I was sold with the original trailer.

This sells me on being sold.

Flame

Saw Kubo.

Man that was probably the best movie ive seen all year. It reminds me of when Disney was good.

This new trend of blending stop motion with some CGI effects is actually quite nice. Movie had some balls too, for a family film. I cant say enough how goddamned beautiful this movie is holy [parasitic bomb]. It is VERY pretty.

...When Larry the reploid accountant goes maverick of his own accord, he's certainly formidable during tax season, but he isn't going to provide X the challenge needed to make him grow as a warrior and reach his potential.

Phi

The director of Kubo was influenced by Hayao Miyazaki and Akira Kurosawa.

The Drunken Dishwasher

Saw Shin Godzilla last night with a buddy for the limited screening in Canada.

Me and him should've know the theatre would be packed, but we got seats, and wow, they all cheered as soon lights went out, and then the Toho logo.  Truly, they were excited and we got excited too (albeit having no idea what to expect).  And again when the movie finished.

As for the movie, pretty damn good, REALLY enjoyed it (even if the 3rd act got a bit long winded with the conversations, but that's the only critique I can give...).  It's definitely a Hideaki Anno movie all the way (there's even something that will cause a big arse grin once you hear it.)

Peter is the only constant. Harry, MJ, Gwen... all gone, apparently.

It's quite strange, considering all the other MCU movies are faithful in maintaining characters from the source material.

Blue Valkyrie

To be fair we've seen these characters in the films multiple times and it's kinda fresh and new, always time to add the classic characters in later I suppose.

Police Girl

I really do hope we get Gwen Stacy in a later film if only so we can possibly see Spider-Gwen.

Sakura Leic

That and didn't Gwen come into the picture when Peter was in college while here he's still in high school?  Now granted the MCU and comic universe are vastly different but with that line of thinking it kind of sort of makes sense.

And yes I would love to see a Spider-Gwen movie of some sort.
Current playthrough: Chrono Trigger and God Eater Ressurection

Police Girl

I'm not positive but I swear she was introduced early in the comic back in the day.

Liz Allen was definitely a character in his younger years, so she's definitely from the source material. But yeah, this  is somewhat new. And I like it!

Here's the international trailer

Fxeni

Yeah, Liz was around back then too. I'm glad they're going somewhere new with it as well, although I imagine they'll bring in the rest eventually (if not in this one).

Protoman Blues

Rogue One was absolutely amazing. OMG!

I honestly look forward to The Last of Us Logan more than I did the X-Men movies.
