Ignore X's whining and I agree.  True, the 2D level design was done by trained monkeys (Stonekong excepted) and the physics between 2D and 3D modes detract from one another, but X7 had its strong points.  Frankly I think if they'd committed to a full 3D game rather than 2D/3D shifting it'd have been better.  Overall I consider it of comparable standing to X5: Sub-par for a MMX game, but still very well enjoyable.

And I actually thought that BURNTOTHEGROUND!!! was hilarious...

Well... I've only played the intro stage so far... and yeah, the 3D was a bit bad. Couldn't exit the end of Axl's part until I found the perfect area to enter. And the collision detection on some objects was a bit bad... personally, they should've committed to a 2.5D game like they did with X8. That game was awesome.

I've heard of that.  I'll be the first to admit that every Smash has its strong points over the others, but some people REALLY need to learn how to live without wave-dashing.

I cannot agree more with Talyn.  What makes that even worse is the casual Smasher's ignorance on the topic.  Ever play Basic Brawl?  FREAKING EVERYBODY picks Final Destination.  OVER, and OVER, and OVER AGAIN.  And Final Destination isn't even the preferred "competitive" stage of Brawl, Battlefield is (due to FD having those "ledges" at the edge which you can get stuck under and Battlefield lacking them; in Melee the reverse was true).

If I wanted every fight in an identical eye-candy-only stage, I'd play Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom.  Brawl's entire charm comes from its variance on all fronts.
The ONLY thing I thought Brawl did wrong, was to nerf Samus on so many ways. She felt like a completely different character, and pretty much sucked in her armor. Aside from that, I think the whole game was awesome, and whiners gonna whine, I guess.

My favorite level, to be frank, has always been Corneria. It's "flat" enough to have a good battle, yet it's got stuff happening all over the place, and you gotta love the last-chance cannon platform which you pretty much die in if you're caught when it powers up.

I... don't have a favorite level. I do have mains, though, when I do play. R.O.B., Pit, and Kirby. I don't use the cheapo Kirbicide method of playing Kirby; I play him as he is supposed to be played; strategically. I've won many a match with the little pink puffball. ^_^

That is a good stage though.

Hmm... Mother 3 and MGS3 come to mind. If anyone's played either of those you know which scenes I mean, even if you don't feel that way yourself.

Another one that's sort of borderline is the end of Secret of Mana.

Smash Bros Melee with competitive players is even worse.

NO ITEMS
FOX ONLY
FINAL DESTINATION
NO FUN ALLOWED

There used to be a game store in my neighbourhood, that had a Gamecube and Smash Bros always on. These 4 guys were sitting on the store couch ALL DAY, from when it opened until it closed, just playing that same battle over and over and over and over again. ALWAYS. They did it for about the five years the shop was open.
I never understood how people could do that... it kind of defeats the purpose of the game.

For some people, having fun is WINNING and BEING COMPETITIVE. If anything stands in the way of absolute imparciality in the way their skill comes into play within the game and ends up being judged on luck, suddenly they feel less "teh hardcorez". So they do that. I kinda feel like Street Fighter 2 is the perfect, finely-tuned, absolutely measued in every single way competitive game when it comes to 1-on-1 fights. The rest? Just have fun and worry less about losing.

I don't understand you people.
Either we've just got a "different definitions" problem going on here or we've got such wildly different mindsets that no understanding is possible.

It's possible!   8D

I just find it odd that they would go out of their way to change so many rules and regulations that are integral to the game. I suppose that's a good mark in favour of the game though, considering how much effort they put into it. I do understand how they might dislike the factor of luck though. I don't find it's so bad in Melee/Brawl since you still need skill to use/dodge them properly. When it's something like say Mario Kart Wii though, where the items are a bit on the broken side, I admittedly get frustrated when I can go from 1-3 to 8-12 in no time flat, and all I get is like... a single mushroom to catch up :P

Mario Kart Wii has decidedly done stuff such as remove snaking the way it was done before, and for some reason, the blue shell pops up more often than it should, at least in the hours I've played the thing on multiplayer. Game's definetly more suited for fun than competitivity. But honestly, I found myself getting really tired of it, really fast, like I had played that game before too many times for me to care about Mario Kart again. Lately, I've just been playing Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing alot.It seems a superior clone, seeing as the drifting is more easily done and it really is required as a part of the actual gameplay that you do it often. That, and the higher difficulty modes are complete killers.

Actually- when I go over games Ive played

Moving/sad-

Castlevania: lament of Innocence. When Leon has to kill Sarah in order to turn the Whip of Alchemy into Vampire Killer. The moment itself was intense, "Sarah! No others will share your fate!" and such, but the way he cries out in pain after killing her was really moving.

awesome-

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time.
When Fayt gets fed up with all the [parasitic bomb] happening all because of him once the Vendeeni show up after him and cause chaos, and he doesnt know what it is they want with him, and his intense stressed state triggers his ability Ethereal blast" and he just outright ERASES a battleship from existence with this kickass laser beam

...When Larry the reploid accountant goes maverick of his own accord, he's certainly formidable during tax season, but he isn't going to provide X the challenge needed to make him grow as a warrior and reach his potential.

Mario Kart Wii is MAJOR overkill, for a couple of reasons.  It's not just there being more broken items, it's also that 12 karts means more of them on the field, that the 150cc AI is positively brutal, that even perfect scoring your way through that may not get you the letter grade you need to unlock [parasitic bomb] (at this point I deem hacking infinite Star Mans to be acceptable), and that when somebody rams a stopped kart they simply push it aside without consequence, meaning whenever you get hit there's a good chance that a passing kart will ram you off the track.

Oh yeah, and they may have removed snaking, but the bikes are basically legalized snaking.  And what do karts have by comparison, the orange boost?  How often do they even have the chance to use that?  So naturally, instead of everyone picking Dry Bones and going for the most simplistic course, they pick a bike and go for the most simplistic course.  Doesn't fix much.

There are two main problems with Mario Kart Wii.  The first is that once you unlock 3-4 specific bikes, there is absolutely NO reason to use any other vehicle in the game.  NONE.  The second problem is the main problem of Mario Kart since MK64, and that is the absolute gimping of them items and the placement of who gets the items.  It's made in such a way where 2nd & 3rd place have literally NO chance to catch up to first place without help from 5th place or higher.
