Gave SAI a try, and I have to say I really liked this program.

The concept isn´t mine btw, it´s based on a scrapped sketch of a Basilisk boss for Megaman Zero I saw over at MMN (which I included in the pic for reference). I made a few changes to the design just because. It´ll probably look better when/if I color it, it´s too static right now and lacks a cool bg.

I tried Sai once before I got my first tablet, I couldn't really enjoy it with a mouse. :p But I can't use the trial now sadly (and i to lazy to get it the unethical way.)

SAI is awesome, use it for my lineart all the time.

Also yeah, Blender being free is nice, it's a good starter app for 3D stuff.
Same with Lightwave and XSI or whatever it's called.

Blender is even packaged for Linux, I always pass by it when I'm installing [parasitic bomb].

But Maya is still top tier, always remember that.

Another nice desing. Those scrapped boss sketches do look great, I like the changes you did to it so now it looks even better. The desing resembles a bit Condorock from ZXA

SAI is pretty damn excellent when it comes to linearts.

And you're already better at it than I am!
