New Main Pokemon Game Announced
Next entry to follow Diamond & Pearl hits Japanese DS some time this year.

January 28, 2010 - HeartGold and SoulSilver are still the rage amongst Pokemon gamers, but Nintendo isn't letting Pikachu and crew rest. In Japan today, the company announced that a new main entry in the series is being developed for DS.

By "main entry," we mean a game in the line of titles that includes Red & Green, Gold & Silver, Ruby & Saphire, and Diamond & Pearl. The new game is set for Japanese release this year, meaning it will come four years after Diamond & Pearl's original release over there.

Nintendo did not share details on the game today, only hinting that it would have new Pokemon, take place in a new region, and feature new gameplay concepts.

But with the announcement out of the way, and with a 2010 Japanese release, expect to start hearing details shortly.

All the Pokemon designs in general have just gone way, WAY out into left field. Nebula Gray fits in with Gen 4; that's [tornado fang]ing ridiculous.

Cyndaquil is the best, so cute, then killer towards its final levels. Though I don't really care for much of the new pokemon, but ah well, this will never die. I miss the old pokemon days.

Treecko is the best starter because it evolves into Sceptile and Sceptile's official art makes him look fantastically smug.
And Chikorita because dinosaur covered in flowers woo.

Okay, well, "all" is a strong word.

Compare...compare Darkrai to Gengar. Compare Combbee to Caterpie. Compare Claydol to Noctowl. Shoot, what the heck is Bronzong supposed to be?!

A few Pokemon can steer into the abstract just fine. But to start turning away from designs that were designed for "survival of the fittest"? And look goofy on top? That's not cute design or marketing appeal, that's just laziness.

They've reaped what they've sewn, though. They've introduced Arceus, and now there's no turning back but to put effort into future installments.
I should have stopped when I found out about EVs/IVs/Natures and Beauty Contests, but I played through Emerald anyway. Was...alright.

I dunno, gen 1 had some pretty [parasitic bomb] pokemon too. There were so many that were just larger versions of real world animals with changed colours. And then, y'know, Grimer. It's an animate puddle. It evolves into a bigger animate puddle. Voltorb. It's a ball that shoots lightning (?). It evolves into a bigger ball that shoots lightning. Hitmonchan. It's a boxer? And Magnemite and Diglett, while having nothing wrong with them themselves, have the laziest evolutions ever. Those two look especially bad compared to Metagross, who actually did the whole combining pokemon thing right.

There are plenty of badly designed pokemon in the later gens, but there are just as many good ones as in the early games. Breloom and Ninjask and Flygon and Milotic and Dusknoir and so on and so on and so on.





Metagross is the best pokemon ever so I'm going to keep complaining at you until you acknowledge it so just do it already. :<
