How about I don't care if it's Western or Eastern, if it's good to me I'm going to play it anyways.

I don't see how that can matter to anyone. I figure if it entertains you and keeps you on edge and playing it really shouldn't matter who made what.

I resent that. Clay Fighter,Killer Instinct, and especially Mortal Kombat were very popular when they were released and people didn't complain...well except for soccer moms and Jack Thompson.

Because being popular is the same thing as being good, right?

You. Explain your thought process.

And by that I mean how you were able to come to the conclusion that popularity somehow equals quality. While that can be true in some very rare cases nine times out of ten the overall quality of something popular is on the same end of the spectrum as repeatedly slamming your head into the wall.

Seriously, I'm genuinely curious.

Well gee, sorry for disagreeing with you, nitwit.

It's simple, really. Popularity = Most people like it = Good quality work.  For example, let's look at Micheal Jackson. Everyone knows him, and his songs were really good. Infact, his "Thriller" album was, and still is, the highest selling album.

Now, you are right. Not everything Mainstream cranks out is good, and not everyone likes everything mainstream puts out. Does everyone like Micheal Jackson's songs? I don't think so.

But like I said, just because you don't like it means it's garbage. If you don't like Mortal Kombat, that's fine, but I do.

I'm curious as to how 9/10 times something mainstream is a complete fail. I guess it could be since you probably do not like everything mainstream puts out.

If this seems wrong to you, feel free to enlighten me.

I've always believed that mainstream games are watered down in order to appeal to larger audiences.  They'll probably be better quality than most games, since their producers can afford to have those kinds of budgets, but you're not going to find a lot of innovation or depth.

I mean, I'm sure we can all name off a bunch of FPS's that are more interesting than Modern Warfare 2, which sold a gazillion copies.  Or an MMORPG better than WoW.  Or whatever else is currently popular.

If this seems wrong to you, feel free to enlighten me.

Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace has a worldwide gross of $924,317,558.  I'd venture to say no movie was looked forward to more, only to be followed by it's sheer disappointment.  Yet, it still sells DVD's & Soundtracks because a lot of Star Wars fans must have it for the collection.

The point I'm trying to make with this example is that popularity does not equal quality, nor does how much money something makes.  Popularity just means that something is popular, but bad things can be popular just as much as good things. Judging by how much it money it has made, The Phantom Menace could be seen as popular.  But it's not.  It's the same twisted logic that states that fanboys make a game bad.

All you really had to say was To Each Their Own.

Twilight: Go read it and tell me that's quality literature.

Transformers: Rise of the Fallen: More of the same from the first movie; now with twice the racism and [ray splasher] jokes!

Avatar: It's a pretty movie with a bland, over done story. So it's pretty bland.

I could name others, but those are the most prominent examples that I could think of.

Sonic is a good example. He is very popular, along with Mario and Megaman, but that doesnt mean many of the games he's been in were that great.

More like overrated.
I played it once. It was terrible. I could NOT get the hang of it at all.

I dont mean to be a dick, but that's the stupidest thing ive ever heard.

Everything has a fanbase. like was said above. look at twilight. it clearly only sells amongst it's fanbase, while the rest of the sane population cringes at it like a vampire cringes at the sun. That doesnt mean it is anywhere NEAR remotely good. quite the opposite, it gives the genere a very VERY bad name, making vampire fans ashamed to like the vampire genre.
