I do wonder why the digging animation is different when you go into a different town.

The customization that goes in the game along with other random things such as villagers probably has something to do with it.

Same here, I'm on day 3 right now because I time traveled since my brother gave me my 3DS back at 7:45 PM so some of the stores were closed within an hour.

It was just some minor delay between shaking trees and one time you hopped from one end of main street to the other.
