I couldn't think of a suitable object for proper size comparison, but I figure it's about 1.25 cm wide and its body 3-4 cm long (taking into account the antennae, probably 8-9 cm long).

The funny thing about Haruhi is that, despite the over hyped aspect of it, I think the writing to the show is very well done. The dialog is pretty good and I thought some of the metaphysical discussions were actually very well thought out. At least the dubbed version was.

There were metaphysical discussions? I just remember a girl being mean to everyone and everyone bending to her will while the main character kept being sarcastic.

Yeah. I found some of the discussions between Kyon (the sarcastic one) and the Esper guy (who's name escapes me) interesting. Also, I actually found the concept of the basic plot intriguing as well.

Was it that one discussion between them in the close-to-last episode where the esper guy who always smiles goes to fight a huge glowy monster?

I always thought that one final plot was good, but a bit... well... WHY didn't they build on that on the entire series instead of being a huge boring snorefest where everyone obeyed what this bitchy girl wanted?

LoL, and they kinda had to obey what the bitchy girl wanted, because the bitchy girl was God. That's kinda what I liked about the series. I liked the idea that they essentially have to keep God from being bored or else she'll rewrite the universe. Like I said, I think the series is overrated, but I still think it's an interesting plot.

That's the very reason I disliked the series. =P The moral of it all is "keep a bitchy girl occcupied, and pander to her every need!". It has a decent concept, but the execution itself doesn't appeal to me in the slightest, because what could be epic cosmic universal [parasitic bomb] is constant boredom.

I don't disagree with you in terms of the execution. For me, the humor made up for it, plus I like the overall theme of someone trying to make life more interesting.
