Webm compatibility would be cool, however, there are no such mods for Simple Machines.

Gifs work well enough anyway.

Once webm compatibility becomes a widespread thing, more people will use it.  Right now, it's not compatible with a lot of things.  Gifs are.  Stick with what works, and gifs work fine.
