Just yell at them on the phone. You can get anything for free that way. It's called service industry, & it's ruining the US, but hey, might as well get my share. Just be like "Look, I can either continue to buy Wii games, or I can begin to buy PS3 games. Ball's in your court, Nintendo phone person." Also, be sure to talk to the manager, because regular old Joe fuckface has next to no push.

Yelling only serves to put up more roadblocks. These people have to listen to a thousand other ranting fucks on any given day, so what makes your hot-headed explosion different from caller #547? When I had to call to get my DS lite fixed up (bad R button,) I was courteous and kind and all that jazz and [parasitic bomb] got done pretty quickly. They were even nice enough to merge all my accounts together (...I, uh... forgot the passwords to those two and they were tied to busted emails) without me even asking to. I called back when the unit they sent me still had issues with the R button and they were more than willing to do it again.

Point is, being nice actually goes a much longer way, at least with Nintendo's customer service. It can't be helped with Microsoft's, where it can get a little difficult because of the whole outsourced to India thing, meaning you need to be very clear with what you want, since their English skills aren't so sharp.

Oh, the problem with my cousin's Wii fixed itself.
Maybe it only bricked in the weekend and fixed itself later, or maybe a secret update fixed it through WiiConnect24?
Who knows, but I'm relieved now. ^.^

If they get the impression you're trying to give, which is "Fix this or I'll never buy another game", you'll get your system fixed.

No. Nintendo has enough money. They wouldn't care if they lost a customer or 20.

Yknow when I first bought my DS, It had a stuck Pixel on one of the screens.
I lol'd, I mean, what are the chances, but I took it back to Toys r us, and got a new one.
I forgot to put the plug and extra stylus back in the box though, so then I had 3 styluses, and 2 plugs.

Stuck pixels are devilish. My PSP has two and while they don't get in the way too much, they're still a little annoying.

I figured I'd post an FYI here with the release of NSMBWii.  I updated first-hand off of the disc because I was done with the GC Action Replay loader, and the fact that a hacked MIOS (Gamecube compatibility) triggers Wii disc update messages was annoying me.  NSMBWii does not contain System Menu 4.2 (as I expected, since I've known disc updates to be out of date); I'm still on 4.1.  However, it DOES contain the Boot2 update.  BootMii got wiped and thus I have to reinstall it.

Probably safer to update by disc than by internet anyway.  Although the guys at HackMii still don't have an actual explanation as to why 4.2 bricks beyond the logical speculation of a Boot2 update failure.  Bushing requested to do a post-mortem on such a Wii if anyone has one to send to him, but he requires that it has a BootMii backup to go with it in order to get the NAND keys.

And that's about the limit of my technobabel-processing.

Point is, if you updated your system off of NSMBWii, then even though you're not actually at 4.2 you're probably through the worst of the 4.2 update.

So wait... if I went and got NSMBWii right now, Would it wipe BootMii off if it was already at 4.2?

Nah.  Boot2 is only checked after you've already started a System Update, and as far as I am aware (EDITS: Just verified myself, updated to 4.2 after NSMBWii and BootMii is still there), BootMii does not alter your Boot2 version number.  So, you install BootMii after Boot2 has updated, and you're good.

There is an exploit you can from your SD card and not even touch the system storage.

This cryptic quote is confusing me a bit. Not sharing any links either. >U<

Is there really a way to run homebrew without installing it to the Wii? o.o

I don't want a bricked Wii, and I like to try it out a bit. I use 4.2J firmware.

PMed you the specifics.  Long story short: The vast majority of homebrew is run without the need to install anything on your Wii.  The Homebrew Channel is only there for convenience, so that you don't need to run an exploit every time.

HBC is, as the name implies, an extra channel and nothing more, so the odds of bricking due to it are basically nill.  Or to put it another way, it's safer than the last system update you ran.  There's nothing to fear.

Until my warranty runs out I'm staying away from stuff that installs on the Wii. Once it expires I'll install HBC.

I'm glad I bought Tetris and MM9 on release. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to buy them now.

You could, easily, depending on what level of unsigned stuff you intend to be running.  Your basic homebrew and emulators works perfectly fine on 4.2, HBC was updated to dodge its deletion attempts, and all is well.  The only reason you would not be wanting to run on the latest firmware is if you fear the boot2 update (which contrary to popular belief is a matter of the age of your system and not a matter of whether or not it was modified), or you have a region-changed Korean Wii (guaranteed to brick at 4.2).
