let's get a monster hunter discussion all up in this [sonic slicer]

Got freedom unite about a month ago. It's like crack in UMD form.

Sub Tank

I'm HR7 :D

Getting Tri as soon as it comes out.

Acid

Preordered Tri. But Euroland has to wait till the 23rd.

And we can't play with Americans from what I heard.

Sub Tank

I can only play with Americans and Canadians.

Definintely gonna try this game at the very least. Online monster battling with some of the zany personalities of RPM just sounds like too much fun. With online being free on top of everything, I'd be nuts not to give it a spin.

Sub Tank

I'm gonna be doing tons of multiplayer. Solo MH is kind of boring sometimes.

Protoman Blues

There's a release party at Nintendo World for Tri.

Acid

Here's some giant monster team battle

Jhen Mohran Part 1

Jhen Mohran Part 2

Jhen Mohran part 3

And this is Raviente, from MH Frontier:

You know I never understood the why Monster Hunter is so damn popular around the world... until I got Monster Hunter Freedom United for the PSP and I preorder Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii (gonna miss those Dual-Wield swords O^O)

I have to say it's very fun and trying to take down the monster in the time limit with only a few items makes it very challenging. Though it's sad to play alone...

Question I can use my PSP to link up with the PS3 to go online and team up with other people playing MHFU too, right?

Sub Tank

You need adhoc party, but yes you can do that.

Acid

Gonna main Switch Axes.

Long Swords will be secondary weapon.

Then S&S and DS.

Do that require my PSP to be hacked or not?

It's something free you download from the PSN store.

I plan on playing the Tri demo I got while on vacations in the US this weekend, what should I expect?

My life is currently bears and Jojos and everything is great.

Protoman Blues

Okay, I should get this game then it looks like.  Well, it'll give me an excuse to get the Classic Controller Pro too.

Sub Tank

You definitely should.  I'll be playing it online a lot more than I did with Brawl, which was hardly at all.

Protoman Blues

So, what can I expect with this game?  How does it ummmmm...how does it work?

CephiYumi

I'll probably be playing Tri too, I had a psp MH but didn't play it very much but hopefully this one will be fun with people ^^

You're a hunter. There are monsters. You hunt them with BIG. WEAPONS.

Then you use their remains to make new weapons and armor to hunt even bigger monsters.

Look at the Youtube videos I posted.

It's sort of like Devil May Cry, but in slow motion.  And you can't jump.  Very hard game, but it's a lot easier with a group.

Basically, you have a selection of infinitely repeatable quests that take you to various map areas populated by monsters specific to the mission.  Typically it's a boss monster followed by annoying little things that only get in the way.  You only have to kill the boss monster to end the mission.  Completing quests awards you with gold and materials that can be used to upgrade your gear, so there's a bit of grinding involved.  You'll also unlock more quests with harder monsters as you progress.

There are a bunch of weapons you can choose from, but you can only bring one with you at a time, so you're stuck with whatever you pick.  Each weapon path has specific move set which you have to learn, so you'll probably end up with a "main" weapon.  Some monsters are easier to kill with certain weapon types, so you might want to play around with more than just one.

Combat basically involves attacking and rolling.  All attacks have what I guess would be considered "cooldown" periods where you're kind of stuck between animations.  Rolling is important here because it allows you to move away before you regain full control of your character.  Your weapon speed never changes, so you have to get awesome at all this timing stuff.  There's also some other strategy elements regarding what items to take with you.

Protoman Blues

Thanks you two.  Yeah, I think I will definitely pick this up!  I might even go to the event at Ninty World.

CephiYumi

Yeah thats the one thing I didn't like about the one I played, you jus feel really giant, clunky and slow.  I usually like to play as faster characters >w<

Acid

Well you DO move like a rock when you wear a mountain of armor and carry a giant slab of bones and iron.
