I'll just ask here:

Assuming I'd like to try some of the Type Moon stuff, where should I begin?

RMX

Depends.

If you don't like the idea of reading for hours on the computer screen, watching static sprites and awkward sex and listening to RPG effects, try the following first:

- Fate/stay night (anime). Your average fan started here. Decent, 24 episodes anime. More or less faithful to the original material. Suffers from DEEN QUALITY sometimes. A nice adventure filled with plothax fights and a useless moralfag protagonist with a harem.

- Kara no Kyokai. Set of 7 films about a douche dating a girl with hax eyes and several personalities while solving supernatural cases. Last movie's DVD to be released this December. Movies are not in chronological order. Varying degrees of action, mindfuck and boring dialogues that go nowhere between them. Paradox Spiral is all sorts of win. Nice visuals and beautiful OST. Sort of a prototype of Tsukihime.

- Shingetsutan Tsukihime. Nah, just kidding. Stay the [tornado fang] away from this one except for self-trolling purposes after having read the VN.

If you think you can handle reading, some bad drawings and underwater metaphores during sexual intercourse:

- Tsukihime (Visual Novel). A tale about about a chick-magnet guy with eyehax and his issues with his family, murder and vampires. Some nice fights and seeing things through the protagonist's mind is great. Drawings are not that bad but Takeuchi can't color to save his life, plus Type Moon was just a bunch of people by that time. Some sex scenes are better than others. Personal favorite. DZ bugged me to hell and back to read it back in the day. Can't blame him.

- Fate/stay night (Visual Novel). Anime covers the first, tutorial-like 1/3rd of this (upcoming movie to cover second part in 90 minutes). A lot more fighting and a lot more stuff going on with better explanations. You have better reasons to like the protagonist in this one. Awkward, hilarious sex. Type Moon printed money with this. Better art, much better BGM. somewhere around 30 to 40 hours to read all of it. Install voice patch for extra weeaboo inmersion.

- Fate/zero. Series of four light novels prequel to F/sn. Translation underway, the first two novels are finished and the third one is half-complete. No harem stuff; no annoying characters;  badass full-fledged battle royale only; final destination. Except for the prologue, awesome stuff going on at all times. Kinda full of f/sn spoilers. Must read it if you liked f/sn.

Saber

Shame on you for not mentioning the absolutely EXCELLENT Tsukihime manga, that's even available in English.

RMX

True, but translations come out at snail pace. It's 7 or 8 chapters behind, and this is a monthly manga.

Zan

Summarizing the above, watch the FSN anime, read the Tsukihime manga, watch Kara no Kyoukai. Then move on to the novels or wait for the UBW movie to come out.

Though I wonder why "reading Kara no Kyoukai" and "playing Melty Blood" are not included in the above.

Is KnK even translated entirely as of yet? And MB doesn't have that much relevance the way I see it.

Glad to know you still <3 me for this. :P

The Fate/stay night TV anime will get 2 compilation/reproduction OVAs which will compile the story of the anime route. It'll have new footage and songs and will hopefully wrap up the Fate route to be more like it's Visual Novel counterpart (like throwing out all the crap of the Caster Arc). Both OVAs are due January 22nd 2010.

Dr. Wily II

More like the VN? Hmm... Will keep my eye out for this.

I'm watching you all. Always watching.

Well, that's at least what I'm hoping.

Still, I'm not sure if I should be pleased by this. This is essentially just a recap with some new footage. Hopefully it's gonna fix some of the animation shortcomings. Doesn't change the fact that I'd love to see a Fate/zero anime.

WHY DIDN'T THE FATE ROUTE GET THIS SORT OF TREATMENT?!

Budgeting issues maybe?

And remember that it was a TV series, so the animation quality wouldn't be as consistent compared to a movie.

Dr. Wily II

I watched.
I've got goosebumps.
Good goosebumps.

I'm watching you all. Always watching.

Rin

So, I've started reading this VN again. I'm at 7th day I think, the Unlimited Blade Works Scenario(If I'm not mistaken) and that oblivious [Top Spin] Shirou is eating lunch with Rin.
AM I DOIN IT RITE?

You're doing it right if you're not dying.

Oh.
Okay then.

I must say, this is a pretty nice thing to read. Even tough, when they start explaining [parasitic bomb], I almost fall asleep.

RMX

No time to explain things. UBW is too busy kicking ass.

You get answers in Heaven's Feel though

I'm watching you all. Always watching.

Rin

Where in the hell is this movie? Wasn't it supposed to be released already?

Oh well, imma gonna go finish the VN (UBW route at least).

Sapphire✧9

It seems we have to wait for DVD release to get it subbed.

People seem to misunderstand this. Unlimited Blade Works ia a THEATRICAL RELEASE. It's no direct-to-DVD production, it's running in Japanese cinemas, like Rebuild of Evangelion or Kara no Kyoukai. A fansub won't be out for months.

Oh.
Certain someone told me it was just released on DVD.
Sorry for my stupidity.
Time to beat the [parasitic bomb] out of that [classy lady].

Also, I just had my first sex scene ever(in FSN) and I am, maybe for the first time, disturbed mentally by hentai.
I mean, goddamn Japan. FSN was perfect until THIS happened.

Archer

It is still better then giant CG Dragons and Dolphins.

I think.

Dr. Wily II

I REALLY want to see the CG dolphin now. -_-

I'm watching you all. Always watching.

Rin

So, after a long break from FSN (THAT [tornado fang]ing SEX SCENE FFFF) I installed FSN again, and finished UBW route with DAT LONDON ENDING.
Assassin! ;_;

I think this is the only vn I've read that I liked.
Dunno if I'm gonna try to do the others routes tough, it might ruin UBW for me. : /

Now, where's dat goddamn movie?
