The best is when I read reviews about how fans shouldn't give it a negative review before seeing it.

Look, I'm as optimistic as they come, but it's Hollywood Live Action Dragonball. It has 0% chance of being good. ZERO. PERCENT. After reading spoiler filled reviews of it, it sounds even worse than I imagined!

Ok, I just finished watching it, and here's what I have to say.

If you go in as a Dragon Ball fan you'll leave the theater in rage.
If you go in wanting to watch a good movie you'll demand a refund and an hour of your life back.
If you go in to watch it as a train wreck you'll be disappointed that it wasn't even that good of a trainwreck.

Yeah, even with expectations as low as I had it still disappointed.

Part of me wants to see this outta sheer unadulterated morbid curiosity as to just how god-awful it can be. The other part of me, the part that controls my financial descisions, says that there is no way in [tornado fang]ing hell that I'm gonna shell out $8.50 for a ticket to go see such a horrible failure of a flick that I can be sure will be a monkey-ball-sucking piece of [parasitic bomb].

That part is currently winning. I'll wait til it comes to DVD and rent it.

Why doesn't Hollywood actually put in some effort to use the original material for reference or even consult with the creator?

Just watched it... I have to say that it wasn't as bad as I was expecting--but I was expecting it to be worse than you can imagine, so that isn't saying very much.

We'll start positive. There were some things that remained intact. Roshi is still a pervert. He takes any opportunity to grab Bulma, just like in the manga. >>; Goku doesn't transform into a deformed half-dragon in a Holloween mask, he actually does turn into an ape monster thingy. This form is called Ouzaru, just like in the manga, but he doesn't become massive. Yamucha is still a bandit.

The bad aspects will mostly be what you'd expect. Crappy, cheesy effects. Crappy acting--especially by Chatwin. Everyone seemed to be thinking the same thing while filming: this movie sucks. And it shows in their performance. Most of the actors give a half-assed attempt at trying to play their roles. Ever tried to play a game based on a movie and everyone sounds like they're bored? Yeah... There's a lot of that in this movie. In the movie, Nameks are considered a hostile alien race. Piccolo was certainly hostile, but not all Nameks are. Even though Goku transforms into an ape, like he's supposed to, it still looks like all they did was put him into a Holloween costume. The effects for ki are really cheesy. And...the Kamehameha can heal people? I don't think so. All the Kamehameha does is blow crap up. That's it.

I'm glad I downloaded this over going to see it in the theater. I would have wanted my money back. Not even being a Dragon Ball fan would make me want to see this movie again.

Piccolo lacks antennae. PICCOLO LACKS ANTENNAE! I just can't forgive that.

At least Roshi is still a pervert. However, from your review, the bad just out-weigh the good so much that it transcends "so bad it's good" right on back to bad. Honestly, the original live-action movie from some years back is better. =/

Oh, I forgot to mention that Goku turns out to be Piccolo's servant. In his Ouzaru form, he loses control and only obeys Piccolo. This annoyed me a lot.

Also, IMO the best part of the movie was Goku throwing the body of Piccolo's random demon henchmen to form a "bridge" to cross the lava

So, it seems like the movie, is in fact, very bad. I feel obligated to watch it, but on the other hand, I'm not sure I would live through the SCHOOL DRAMA bullshit. IS there much of it in this movie?
