RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE

No, really, I got some juicy stuff to post with. See, this is really my area of expertise, to some extent. I keep up with the happenings of people finding unused stuff in video games, what they could be used for, what's going on, etc. I'll post up some various things here, and if there's any questions I could possibly answer on any unused stuff I come across. Also, assume these have been found by someone else unless I say so otherwise.

So why don't we start with this:



There is a sprite viewer and sound test combo menu in Mega Man 6 that can be accessed with the aid of a Game Genie. The code is as follows:

EZKKIVKG + LLVKATOL + AXEGLVTU

I believe it should automatically take you to this. It's pretty fun to play around with.

This is also pretty well known, but in Super Mario Bros. 3, there's a debug mode in there as well. The Game Genie code is KKKZSPIU. There's a few different aspects to this:

1.) The title menu is a level select, to which you can press Up and Down to select your world, and "A" to start with five additional lives, up to 99.
2.) You start with one of each item, two warp whistles, and two rows of P-Wings.
3.) In play, pressing Select switches power-ups. Holding "A" and pressing select enables the shoe. You also cannot die via time running out.

And lastly, I know people are familiar with Sprites Inc. However, what they say is an unused robot sprite is actually used, but you actually have to make it occur on purpose. I made a video to prove it:

Ahhh yes. In the super famicom, if you do not insert a game, a song plays.
Now when you do not enter a disc into a Game cube, a tune plays. If the Game cube tune speeds up 25X the same tune can be heard.

So, glad you liked them apples! Here's a new piece for the SNES port of Mortal Kombat.

The pro action replay code 8084CBA9 + 8084CC07 allows you to access a duplicate version of the Courtyard after the first battle. It plays Goro's fight theme (the one that plays when you fight Goro) as the main background theme, and massively slows down and crashes the game when you do a fatality. I'm not sure why they have this here, but I have two theories. One is that it was a test arena. The other one is probably a programmer's shortcut to attribute a music piece to a level, and then call it for Goro's fight.

I'm not really sure though at all what the deal is, to be honest.

In Megaman 2, there's a glitch where if you keep pressing start after megaman teleports, the game will bypass the Start/Continue screen and go to the Boss Select Screen. But instead of the Boss Select music, it will be the music from the Start/Continue screen.

It's very hard to do normally, but if you ran an emulator at like ~25%, you could do it easily.

In the Japanese version of Kirby's Dream Course, there's a smorgasbord of unused/test levels! This video proves it. Unfortunately, I don't have a code on me for a level modifier at this time.

How about the Stop'n'Swop, in all the Banjo Kazooie games so far?
Or the cameos Rare HAS to make in all it's games?  Such as the pictures of Treasure Trove Cove in Ghoulies, or the Spirit of Pants on the TV set in Boggy's house on BK 2?

O.o and I'll bet no one can guess what my favorite game company is...

I think, if you visit the Rare Witch Project, that they found evidence of the unused Stop n' Swop. What it was supposed to do was that you play one game, and then very quickly, you take the game out and replace it with another game, and the data would somehow carry over from one game to another.

I really don't know how the technical aspects of it works, but they did happen to find it, I know that much.

Speaking of Rare, there's a lot of unused Donkey Kong Country stuff, surprisingly so. I'll see if I can dig it up sometime in the near future.

The games store a bit of data in the N64 itself which gets erased only some time later.
That time was originally 30 seconds but during Banjo Tooie's development the N64 got revised that it only stores the data for just 2 seconds.


Also, the book in the bottle level of Super Mario Sunshine. What is it?!

Unfortunately on your Super Mario Sunshine quesiton, I'm afraid I can't answer that one 'cause I'm not familiar with the game. I can, however, uselessly tell you that there's a leftover Trampoline object and half-finished Blargg enemy in Mario 64 though.

it was called cold swapping.  Ike Mike has the right idea.  My only question is: why would Rare carry it over to their xbox release? There's now an achievement called "Stop'n'swop", but it's worth 0 GS...
Also, Bottles, who runs the information kiosk in the hub world has "information" to buy on the "truth" about stop'n'swop, HOWEVER it costs more than the total amount of currency in the game.  I saw a YouTube video, which I can't find right now, of someone buying the "truth" by modding their xbox... It turns out that[spoiler]Bottles could tell you, but then he'd have to kill you... And they can't have that in a family game[/spoiler]
or something along those lines, anyway

Look, Stop & Swop is not as mysterious as you think.  Like Ike-Mike said, the N64 hardware got revised during B-T's development and Rare had to drop the idea.  Instead they just made the bonuses that were supposed to carry over from B-K a completely internal thing in B-T.

They changed that in the 360 versions of the games though, since they're entirely stored on the system memory.  If you play B-K and you've got B-T as well, you can find the Stop & Swop items in-game and have them carry over to B-T when you start it up.  The bonus items that were placed in B-T to replace Stop & Swop were removed and the original intention of unlocking stuff by finding it in B-K was restored.  They also added Stop & Swop functionality between B-T and Nuts & Bolts for some bonus vehicle parts.

^ This was one of the original stages of Sonic 2's development before Sega got hacked and they have to redo the game all over again. Also, the stage's BGM remains in the final release (Track 10).
