I need to set up a trading session with some of you...
Arceus... ;_;
Remember, the Arceus is downloadable to Diamond, Pearl and Platinum... So... *wink wink*

Well, I got mine.  As we all know, Level 100, so no EVs beyond Vitamins (a fellow DS-user was complaining about that when I went to download).  Also, its Nature is Bold (-Attack, +Defense), so if you're not going for some in-battle boosts you'll want to be focusing on the Special side.

I see the whole Level 100 shpiel as encouraging Arceus's as a jack-of-all-trades Pokemon and preventing the raw overpowering storm that would be Smogon-esque manipulated stats.  It's a known fact that with the inability to breed, legendaries are a bit tougher to nail on specific IVs and Natures (I cannot help but laugh at the absurdity of using Hidden Power on Raikou in-game, and there is not a single Smogon moveset that works without it).  Arceus simply takes that to a greater extreme in exchange for its unmatched Base stats.

Look at this way.  Without a Nature boost, any of Mew's stats (besides HP) with maxed EVs will range from 268 to 299, which can be done in only two stats.  Arceus, even with only 100 EVs (Vitamins) can range from 270 to 301, and that can be done five times over.  I don't think that's too shabby.

Bigger issue would be the pressure of it's promotional-only moves.  Using them all you don't have a very great Pokemon.  Delete them and they're gone forever.

And you know, on an unrelated note, I'm really hating the whole berry-growing shpiel.  I decided I'd need about nine Qualot Berries (lowers Defense EVs).  So, I got to planing.  Now I have to wait EIGHT HOURS PER STAGE, totaling over a full day, before I can use them.

And people wonder why I hate the EV cap.

Liechi berries take 3 or 4 days to grow. With the half-time fertilizer. Stop whining. XD

But yer, if anybody wants to gimme their Arceus for the 'dex...

Or battle, or whatever.

I'm not even sure why you'd want duplicates of the "pinch" berries, save maybe trading leverage.  I can't imagine more than one 'man in a team using the same hold berry (and I personally do not use duplicate hold items anyway, my own code of honor there), and Salac is usually the preferred one anyway.

With the EV-lowering berries, there's every reason in the world you may want to chow down on 11 in a single go.  At the very least they could have been made buyable.  I'd much rather trash the Elite Four for money than just leave my DS on for the sake of leaving it on.

Trading leverage exactly.

Plus Salac is overrated. In the face of a Mach Punch (Or rather, a Mach Punch in the face) it doesn't usually help. XD

The berries should be buyable though. That would make life easier.

In fan-based Tournaments (or "standard battling" as they like to delude themselves), item duplicates are permissible, which generally amounts to everyone and their dog debating between Leftovers and Life Orb barring some special circumstance.  However, in Nintendo's tournaments, and in most of the higher-level console games, duplicate items are forbidden.  Myself, I believe that using duplicate items shows a lack of originality, so I avoid it anyway.

Plus Salac is overrated. In the face of a Mach Punch (Or rather, a Mach Punch in the face) it doesn't usually help. XD
Only way an attack boost would work any better is if you're packing your own priority attack.

Yeah, basically any "pinch" berry is screwed in that situation.  If you're brave enough to pray that doesn't happen, Salac/Reversal is the usual shpiel.  That or Belly Drum/Salac.

I have to admit, though, Liechi Berry on a priority abuser isn't a bad idea.

Anybody here got an Action Replay?

Or an extra Life Orb to part with?

I'm bumping this to inform people with Japanese Diamond/Pearl/Platinum games that Mew is now available over WiFi from now until 11th February 2010.

ALSO!
There's going to be a Jirachi giveaway from 27th February to 13th March 2010 by Gamestop stores.

Movelist:
Wish
Confusion
Rest
DRACO METEOR

It's level 5, holds a Liechi Berry, inside a Cherish Ball and a random nature. When you trade Jirachi over to HGSS, it will unlock the PokeWalker course "Edge of the Night Sky".

ALSO!
The Pikachu-coloured Pichu giveaway begins on 30th January at Gamestop stores. If you trade over the Pichu to HGSS, and take it to Ilex Forest, Spiky-Eared Pichu will join your party.

I'm watching you all. Always watching.

Seems good. Smogon says OU.

If nothing else, it's still a base 600 with a good offensive movepool, so yeah. Good typing too.

Other than being a move it shouldn't know (as far as I can tell, could be wrong) any benefit for it knowing Draco Meteor? I don't tend to use dragon types so I'm not too familiar with the move... other than it's powerful and is a Dragon move.

Yep, Jirachi shouldn't know Draco Meteor. As for benefit... It is powerful, but it does cause Jirachi's Special Attack to drop 2 levels per usage.

Screwing over dragon types, I guess. Not sure that's worth a moveslot though. I'm thinking it's not, but hey, I'm no expert.

Draco Meteor is beloved by many for its obscene power, but on a non-Dragon, I'm not sure why you'd want to lose the STAB and suffer halved Special Attack.  Unless maybe if your Jirachi is primarily physical and you just want to keep a little surprise for your opponents.  Depends on what you're intending to do with him.

Some people will also tell you that such attack-lowering power moves are useful on Choice-item 'mans you intend to be switching a lot, but IMHO it makes your strategy too predictable.  As soon as they catch on to the fact that you're using a Choice item combo, it means they know you have to either switch or put up with half strength, which could be setup bait.

And yeah, Draco Meteor is a nice trump card against other Dragons, especially since with few exceptions they're usually more worried about their Ice weakness, thus you have potential to work around a Yache Berry defense.  Since Jirachi can't even learn Ice Beam anyway, that might not be a bad idea.

Someone remind me, is Jirachi any bit useful for battling?
Jirachi's move pool is somewhat limited (for a legendary, anyway), but has a lot of tricks it can pull, especially if you have access to the Platinum/HG/SS move tutors.  There are plenty of moves that can abuse Serene Grace's effect.  Steel/Psychic is a pretty great typing, although it shares that with Metagross and Bronzong.

To those of you that couldn't get the Shiny Pichu over at GameStop (Like me... -_-), don't fret!
The Shiny Pichu will be available over the WiFi, using the Mystery Gift function, from March 5th to March 25th, 2010 for download onto Diamond, Pearl and Platinum.

As a refresher:
Lvl30 Male, inside a Cherish Ball, Jolly Nature, holds an Everstone and a Classic Ribbon, knows Charge, Volt Tackle, Endure and Endeavor.
When traded to HGSS, take it to the Ilex Shrine in the Ilex Forest, and you can catch a Spiked-Ear Pichu.

One more thing.
If you have the Shiny Pichu from GameStop, you can't get this Shiny Pichu again. :P
