A TRAIN?!

They've lost their effin' minds! Not that this is entirely a bad thing, but a train in a traditionally medieval setting just seems way out of place!

Haven't they used steam boats before?

This game has touch controls only again it seems. I'm not going to even bother with it. Too bad since the train idea looks nifty.

The storage solution deal is such a joke. Okay, cool, we can legitimately use up to 32GB SDHC cards... good stuff. However, the system still needs to install the game on the on-board memory to run it. Not much of a big deal, sure... except for one tiny thing.

The Wii uses 512MB Flash Memory for its internals.

Now, you may or may not know that Flash memory can only be written on so many times before it goes bad and fails. If you play a lot of VC/Wii Ware titles and thus use this feature a lot, you're pretty much ravaging the memory from all the writing when you load the game and then writing again when you stop the game so the system can delete it. I'm astounded Nintendo STILL can't even get something as basic as full reading of the SD Card right.

Oh well... at least the homebrew channel still works.

[parasitic bomb], you know, I just read about this too. Well, I officially don't know what to do. I love my games but I know I need to keep my Wii in working order since I could possibly lose out on a good deal of my VC games since they were bought prior to me registering my Wii on Club Nintendo. Ugh, what a predicament. XD

They would pretty much need to restructure the internals of the system since the way its laid out now is a complete mess. You ever taken a look at it? You have to wonder what the hell their programmers are on. They don't even use four-decade-old functions like dynamic linking.

I hate to admit it... ;w;

And I really liked the idea too...

But as long as you already loaded one game or channel, and don't switch to another one, it will be kept on the flash memory and it won't have to keep writing/reading back and forth from the SD card all the time.

Also a little bit about NAND Flash Memory in general.

LoL, I'm not worried.  That and I'm pretty laid back.   8)

By PB logic, and blind PB optimism, by the time it'd take me to destroy the internal memory of my Wii, they'll either fix that problem when it arises, or have the new Wii HD, the WiiDii as I'm now gonna call it, out in time for Ninja Lou to buy it for my birthday/X-Mas present!

I dunno what to think about Spirit Tracks, personally. I mean... a train? Seriously? Sounds awfully limiting. As much as I disliked the sailing, at least we could choose where to go at all times. Switching tracks just isn't the same thing, and it looks awfully out of place to me. Oh well, guess we'll see.

11:01 Mission Complete! MG was a hit! Then, on to the sequel... The new mission: "create a stealth game on the next gaming platform that surpasses the previous creation."

11:02 Snake's wall grows, as the msision becomes a 'deeper stealth game.' But... there was no hardware advancement! The MSX was still the MSX!

11:03 The hardware remained the same, so what Kojima did with the design was change the enemy's line of sight to the cone shape, which is slightly more realistic, and added the radar in the corner. The player always had to think about enemies inside the screen and 'outside' the screen.

11:04 Oops, slide gaffe...

11:09 Mission Complete! And MG2 was another hit. And of course, people wanted another sequel. The mission: "Create a 3D stealth game for the MSX2." Whaaa? Kojima thought a first-person game would be more fun for the stealth concept.

11:10 The "3D stealth game" wall is now looking more like a mountain. That... really WAS impossible.

11:11 But, four years later, the PlayStation was released. 3D games were becoming the new standard. " Let's see how the hardware elevated Snake...'

11:12 An "earthquake" happens and the tall wall is shifted so it's easier to climb up. The mission changed again: create a 3D stealth game for the PS1! Of course! So what changed in Metal Gear Solid?

11:12 Oh, applause break for MGS. Yes, thank you.

11:13 The simple 2D illustration becomes a little more 3D now. Maybe there's a wall now, but this time there's a duct that Snake can crawl through. When he enters the duct, it goes first-person.

11:15 "This really was 3D." Now let's go over the release dates... yay... yes, we know MGS came out in Europe later... lots of languages, yes... heh, wait, now Kojima is demonstrating the different voiceovers in MGS.

11:16 We get to the German version. Kojima: "Sounds like I want to eat some sausages." Italian: "I feel like I want to eat some pasta." Is this just an excuse to make fun of foreigners?!

11:16 HAHA SPANISH PEOPLE EAT PAELLA

11:17 The crowd laughs most at the French version. "Feels a little romantic, doesn't it?" Hoo boy.

... now I want to go find the other versions of MGS. >U<

Also, I think I should change the thread title so all of the GDC developments can be discussed in full. Everyone agree?

Heh, you know what's funny? I got a chance to take apart the Wiimote & Nunchuk in a tech workshop at my university a while back. It's one of the reasons why I'd love to jump into Wii development as there's a [parasitic bomb] ton of stuff that's possible and hasn't been really touched on there... But that's besides the popint. Maybe what I should have done was take apart the Wii itself and see this myself. Either way, I'm not sure what to make of this development. All I know is now, I'm gonna have to borrow some of PB's reckless optimism and hope for the best.

Then, on a random tangent, this all makes me wonder what the big deal is with SSD in computing as of late...

Rhythm Heaven ROM leaked online - GDC to blame?

This is a problem…and the reason behind it may actually be people attending GDC.

For those that don’t know, Nintendo gave every single person that attended Iwata’s keynote a free copy of Rhythm Heaven. Oddly enough, the North American version of the game has now been leaked online for pirates to grab. Is it just a coincidence that these two events happen hours apart from one another, or are there GDC-goers that moonlight as software pirates?

Way to go Nintendo. =/

I just miss Epona, I guess. Fine, but in the next LOZ game, Link needs a hotrod Mustang with horse-hair seats and a vanity plate that says EPONA. :p

Seriously though, I am a bit worried about the flash memory, but I figure there will be a fix eventually. /wii
