Does anyone know a good program for playing .mkv videos besides VLC and Perian?
Media Player Classic? I'm sure it probably plays .mkv
Indeed, go with Media Player Classic.

VLC is a memory hog, on my PC I can't watch anything in high quality with it, but it's fine in MPC.

Hrm.

On Hamachi, I keep getting a VPN Network Adapter Error, despite it being fine less than a week ago.
Another issue would be Ventrilo, which used to work fine as well, but now seems to hit insane amounts of ping, so I can only assume they're related.

Not much of a computer problem, more of a network problem. I don't know much about this sort of stuff, so it's obvious why I'm posting.

Indeed, go with Media Player Classic.
That's what I'll use when I return to using a PC. But in the meantime, what can I use that works on a mac?

For some reason, lately, when Im playing something on Windows Media Player, when I close the player the music keeps playing even though the player is closed. How can i stop it from playing when i close it? It didnt do this before...

Tried looking in the Task Manager?
Under Processes, check if "wmplayer.exe" is still there.
If it is, End Process it.

Any player will run anything, if you have the correct codecs installed. Download K-Lite, which comes with Media Player Classic, and it'll come with all the codecs you need.

I thought CCCP was the only thing anyone would ever need for codecs.

So basically, there were these files that apparently nuked a laptop and caused it to constantly BSOD. I don't understand the full working behind the problem, but it's supposedly a new virus. We're looking for a solution that will atleast make the laptop operable again. I do believe the cause are drivers that got borked.

I'm sure anyone dabbling in BSOD will understand what these files are. If you can figure out which files are borked and a solution to fix it, I would be very, very grateful. Thank you for your time, RPMers.

The Uninstall/Change Programs list on my desktop is being a dumbass; i.e. The uninstall/Change option only appears when I have selected a program with an installation date or something. Might someone know what the problem(s) is/are?

I'll try to fill you in on details to the best of my ability.

Speaking of .mkv codecs, does have any advice for me concerning .mkv files? I downloaded the codecs and it still doesn't play smoothly as I thought.

MPC (unicode build)
Version 6.4.9.1 (revision 86)?

Flame, are you using some other tool to connect to the Internet?
And did you check the name of your "disabled" connection icon?
It might be a connection to something else, or you use a tool that interferes with it.

*shrug* no idea. for a while now.
usually when I close my laptop, naturally, the internet cuts for a few seconds and has to reconnect when I open it back up. a few days ago, when it did that, it stayed on the icon, even though the internet was connected.
another tool? no, just my Laptops default wireless.

KK, for some reason, my internet connection icon on my toolbar always shows the disconnected icon, even though I AM connected and my net is just fine.
Like so.

Laptops have 2 network adapters, wired and wireless. If an adapter is on but not connected, it usually displays that icon. So in your case, the icon is probably saying that your wired network adapter is disconnected.
