Do that again in this specific thread and I'm booting you the [tornado fang] outta here, no questions asked.

Waifu

My computer never use to be a little slow, it was always fast and I didn't install that many programs yet it is still slow. I like to think it is the memory but I believe I have too many programs on, not it was problem before but seriously I may not have that big of a computer however it was fast before. Do you know of any methods of speeding my computer up?

Shiki Tohno

1. Open Task Manager.
2. Screenshot the entire list of entries in the Processes tab.
3. Go to the Start menu, Run prompt, and type msconfig and hit enter.
4. Screenshot the entire list of Startup entries.

Post both screenshots here and I'll tell you what's wrong.

Flame

You said too many programs? you don't NEED a screen cap program. Print screen key works just fine.

...When Larry the reploid accountant goes maverick of his own accord, he's certainly formidable during tax season, but he isn't going to provide X the challenge needed to make him grow as a warrior and reach his potential.

Okay, lets try this again.

I can't connect to a server on IRC (chat01.ustream.tv for ref). I know this is a problem with my computer because everyone else I know can connect to it, not to mention I can connect to it with my PSP. On my computer, I get a 10054 ping timeout anytime I attempt to. I've tried 4 different IRC programs and google has turned up nothing (Then again, google is infinitely useless these days). Anyone got a clue because I kinda need to be able to connect to this server.

BMP? [tornado fang]ing FAIL. Someone should take you permanently off the internet and not allow you within 20 yards of a computer for the rest of your life.

The list of binaries you have running doesn't feel excessive. That leaves one of three things: Either you have too many services running (unfortunately, as services can break the system, I will NOT advise you on what to stop and what not to), or you're having hardware problems, or your ESET antivirus' live protection is slowing down your system to a crawl.

Are you using a firewall? If so, you need to allow access to any IRC software to that specific port if you want to connect to it.

Rad Lionheart

My hard drive just failed, it will not boot.
So I'm without a working computer now, the best I can do is what I'm doing right now.

Live desktop from my Mandriva disc, and at that, it's really slow.
REALLY slow, it took 15 minutes to boot it. >_>

But yeah, I already asked for the funds from some long time gaming buddies, so I won't ask for funds from you guys, you barely know me!
But any support will be appreciated, even if it's moral support, cause I live on the internet, if I don't have a connection and computer, I don't live.
How am I gonna live without you guys!? D:

Well PJ will build me a computer, I just need the funds to afford it.
So it's time to beg and mooch for munnies, so I can live!

Dr. Wily II

Wow, that does suck a lot...
Well, PJ is helping, so that's awesome.
The best I can is give moral support... COMP! FOR EVERLASTING INTERNET!

I'm watching you all. Always watching.

Sparky

Parts of my laptop backlight are beginning to dim more, and I'm not sure what to do.

Flame

Im no expert, But Id say a few of the back lights are dying... I cant say what to do though. give the 'top to a specialist and have the backlights replaced.
Id wait for DZ for real advice though. :P

Backlights as in what? Actual screen illumination, or mere hardware ornaments?

DZ, my computer is possessed by a demon of the 28th level of hell who wants to see mankind tickled and whipped for all eternity.  What should I do?

Tell Steve Jobs to go [tornado fang] himself in the ass. At least we won't get whipped and you gain a demon butler.

Screen illumination.
Best bet is taking it to a repair service, because your LCD screen might be dying.

Damn...I can'd afford the repair charges right now. I'm [tornado fang]'d.
