My father thinks I'm really smart when I'm really... not. He says I have an IQ of one-hundred-and-fifty-something, but to me an IQ is just a number because it could be susceptible to change. I'm a good example.
150,if i can remember correctly my IQ was around oh say 170-ish,but that was 2006..

God, I understand you SO WELL. I mostly watch only a few manga and anime, the ones that got most of the western style, and good stories. But most of the crap that's out there has such HORRIBLE dialogue and narration, and fits so incredibly into so many stereotypes, I honestly don't know why people still take it. Everything in high school, everything in martial arts, shinigami this and shinigami that, all relationships are awkward, all old men are perverts, all girls are cute and hot, and fit into a pre-disposed personality of quiet, clumsy and cute, or stupid bitches who keep complaining about everything. There are quite a few gems in anime and manga, but most of it is so derrivative, it makes me sick. Specially when pretty much every good book I read has a story that makes me question things, and makes my mind WORK instead of being in a friggin' vegetative state.
I know where you're coming from. Anime, from when it used to be innovative from Gundam to Dragon Ball, is now starting to become dull. But hey, we're the ones who are gonna need to fund the new generation...

Also, it's kinda funny that the "old, pervy guy" is thinning out in Real Life, leaving it to young nerd otakus.
And the good comics we know and love might not last for long...see: Spider-Man 3.
All in all, we need to try to get away from building on the old, and focus more on shocking new IPs, back in the REAL old days with "Native Son" and "Catcher in the Rye". Not to say we're almost dead, see: Sam Fisher and his set of novels.

P.S. - File my under one of the guys who don't seem bright on their feet, too. Capable of a 25 on an ACT on the first try, but dull as hell in a RL conversation.

I sometimes feel ashamed for having an interest in certain things. Probably due to being so easily infuenced by other people's opinions.

One thing I've learned. While there might not be good mainstream stuff, there is ALWAYS good stuff. Underground, indie, or even free, but there's always good stuff to be read. As comics are concerned, we may have lost Alan Moore for good, but we still got Grant Morrison and a big slew of other authors going awesome on narrative. When it comes to books? Just look harder. There's always some fantastic writer around the corner. I've actually been reading all the books of a japanese writer, Haruki Murakami, lately. Incredible, fantastic stuff. Not to mention there's ALWAYS a classic you haven't read. Or re-read. Good stories are always alot anytime in the world, they just move from media to media, and we gotta find them.

So its about ass now huh? EVEN THE ASS HAS 'EXCEEDED'!

One mention of LEGENDS and everyone goes batshit.  :\

Yep, every time when someone mentions that game people get energized for an apparent reason whatsoever. It's like this everywhere else, trust me.

It got really messy to find my sprite and comic topic, so it's in my sig.

Well he's the Goshdarn Flash. That's how.

Myself, I've mastered a skill called Speed Reading. I can skim a page and still know everything that happens in it. Look for some tips on that.

Ironically enough, reading's probably the fastest thing I can do. It's not just speed reading, I can absorb most of the information off a page in about 3 seconds, make sense of dialogues, descriptions and everything. This post, for example, I could read in about half a second. I learned how to read and write when I was about two and a half years old, and my grandfather took care of me. It was really difficult for me to adapt to regular handwriting in school instead of the book typography I was used to writing by then, but I eventually got used to it. I mostly learned about car brands and stuff. Then I learned english by myself in elementary school when cable first came to Portugal, and I discovered Cartoon Network. From there, I just devoured books, but found the usual Enid Blyton-type stories incredibly boring to read.

Then I found some classics in the school library, was reading Franz Kafka and Fjodor Dostojevski, Homero, James Joyce and others. I just kinda... started reading really really fast, because I loved the stories, and managed to absorb lots of information at once.

So, the trick is to focus your eyes on the big key words, filter out worthless and meaningless sentences which don't add anything to the story, and as long as you're used to reading, you can get through books incredibly fast, because through those words, the story will form inside your head because of pure routine.

That's pretty much what I do; I've just been told it was speed reading.

It's a useful skill.

I keep confusing "Swiss" with "Swedish" and vice versa. It's not something I'm proud of.
