The title 'aint as foreboding as you think.

But I'll use the following example; when younger, I remember being a regular visitor to certain websites and stuff, none in particular, but, sometimes they'd just cease with the updates after the webmaster said something like, "I'm heading into college now and won't have time for this it's been fun bye".

And these would be video game based sites, y'know, so it's along the lines of people grow up with added responsibilities to the point where they just don't have times for video games anymore. Or at worst, they just lose an interest in videogames altogether.

This scared me when I was younger. Video games always have been, and thankfully still are a huge part of my life. The concept of losing that as I grew up seemed really daunting. And now, here I am. And what of it?

I notice that indeed, what with studies and a part-time job and.. socialising I have nowhere near as much time as I'd like for gaming. Often I'll be playing something and think to myself "I could really be doing something else right now", and if I say for example die in New Super Mario Bros. Wii I'm just like "Well screw this then".

An interesting scenario now is that instead of playing video games, I usually end up painting them. Y'know, pixel art on canvas or whatever, because I think to myself that I'm using my love of gaming to do something productive which may actually get me somewhere. And, I listen to game OSTs during my study just so I can merge my enjoyment and responsibilities together, y'know? Oddly enough, I've recently found myself buying the OSTs of games I 'aint even played before.

And then there's the irony of being an 'adult' and having your own income to buy as many games as you want at long last, but it's always towards other necessities such as clothes and bills.

Thoughts, comments and experiences, all of you :T

I don't play video games as much anymore because I played all the ones I have already a thousand times, and I have no money for new ones.

So yeah.

I'm somewhere in between.  I have plenty of time for video games, I just don't have the attention span for gaming that I once used to.

My current situation is that I've given up on single-player games completely.  My unfinished game pile has grown way too big to add any more titles to it.  Stuff like Super Mario Galaxy, while great and all, I just can't sit through.  I don't really know why, but gaming has lost most of its appeal for me.  I guess I was more easily amused as a kid, maybe because there was always a sense of mystery behind games.  Nowadays, I just see the limitations; invincible NPCs, invisible boundaries, linear stages, repetitive gameplay, and overdone storylines.  And now I have to deal with games trying to be movies.

There's practically no motivation for completing these games, because it feels like such a waste of time now.  I'll still play certain handheld games, and RPGs if I can customize things.  But that's as far as I go.

Mutliplayer is a different story though.

Yeah, responsibility can sometimes lead to a huge lack of time for many things, whether it's gaming, hanging out with friends, etc.  To be quite honest, I'm not sure if I play more or less games than I use to when I was younger.  I mean, I play Halo 3 with my friend and JEEP ACTION it up probably about twice or three times a week.  I also get in an occasional Brawl with Jelly, and lately some TatsuCap with fellow RPMers.  Sometimes before bed, I'll relax with some Gundam Vs. Gundam Next Plus for the PSP.  It really just depends on my mood.  I'd guess that I still maintain my current level of gaming as I did when I was younger.

Taste changes, personality changes... used to be that I felt that any free time not spent playing videogames was time wasted. Now I'm rather more laid back, and feel that any time that I'm enjoying is time not wasted.
One part of it is that there are very few games that really draw me in, games that make me think of them while I'm doing other things. I'm loving Muramasa for doing that to me, but I don't have my Wii here so it's a bit inconvenient to go play it... and so, it, too, remains unplayed.

Then there's how much time I spend on reading, either fiction or forums. The daily "check everything that's been happening while I was asleep/away" can take as much as 3 hours in itself, and with work or studies that doesn't leave much free time for playing.

And of course, sheer experience weighs a ton on your enjoyment - if a game doesn't offer anything substantially new, you'll go "meh, it was done better in XYZ... hmm, maybe I should go dig that one up again".

I have plenty of time for video games. But instead I choose to waste most of it on here.

Luckily for me, I have no friends, so I don't have to waste time talking to people when I could be playing games.

You should try it.

I have almost no social life, and I don't smoke or drink, so when I'm not working or sleeping, I'm gaming.

I just wish there were more interesting or fun games out there. Seems like for every Skies of Arcadia I play there's 30 Gears of War/Halo/Generic FPS #67 clones around.

My Twitch channel. Random streams during the week.
Currently streaming: Transformers: Devastation

I'm somewhere in the middle of these myself, especially when it comes to newer games boring me by being the same shooter or melodramatics over and over again. Add to both the fact that I'm actively working on learning a new skill, trying to move out of my parent's place by year's end and getting my own little creative studio started, on top of dealing with a new semester of college and it would seem as though I've purposely left games behind. Honest to God, I can't remember the last time I played any of my DS games, which is a crying shame.

I haven't touched my DS in forever, either. Same goes for PSP. But my consoles get decent if not frequent use.

Luckily for me, I have no friends, so I don't have to waste time talking to people when I could be playing games.

And that's why I have friends who are gamers; so we can do both at the same time.

Usually If I don't have anything to do, I'll play a game, watch some Anime, play around on the computer. But lately, except on the weekends, I haven't had much time.

I remember when I was younger, I could just come home from school and start up the N64/SNES/whatever and play until it was almost bedtime, stopping for dinner breaks, and assuming I didn't have to go anywhere with Mom.

I don't think Video Games/Anime/etc will fully phase out of my life, unless I just start to not enjoy them later. They just get put on the backburner sometimes because of more important responsibilities I have.

But like they say, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."

I just hope when I'm rich and famous I'll have all the time in the world for games.

Friends are overrated anyhow.

That's interesting. The core Nintendo games I will almost always have time for. Things like Mario Galaxy I wil, and have played to death. I remember I was even going through a bad financial week both the times I went ahead and ordered New Super Mario Bros. Wii and the new Pokemon games. Heh, there's just no excuse for me to miss out on games like that.

That's also interesting, because I seem to really dislike multiplayer games and you'l hardly every catch me playing those.

I'm all over the freakin' road. I've got a girlfriend now, looks like Master's school JUST ramped up with a test already hitting next time plus my other class, of course work which I'm actually having to resign from because it pays too low and is overtime, I just...I'm overwhelmed. I do play video games still, but this is the least I've ever played in my entire life.

And there's a ton of cool games coming up. But it doesn't matter; I play what I earn, and I just need a new job.

For me it's more about making a good plan of the day. That way, despite having quite a lot of other things to do, I have enough time for games. And I always play in bed on my DS. Coffee helps too.

Well... I do game less now than I used to. Mayhaps it's because less games seem intriguing to me nowadays, whether it's because it's gone too far into the "realism" direction (as realistic as they can be, anyways) or because the base for a lot of games have already been done better in older games. The games don't have to be completely innovative or anything, but if they're going to do something that's nothing new, they better damn well at least do it well. Most games nowadays don't really give me the urge to replay them either, unlike certain of the games from yesteryear did.

I can only hope that once I get into the industry, I work on something that people will enjoy and remember. In the meantime, 80% of my time goes into some sort of work.
