Oh cool. That might be my first Yakuza title.

For right now, the only things that really have me amped about TGS are BASARA 3 and Yakuza 4. Nothing much else is really ringing my bell, unless Lords of Shadow is scheduled to reveal something new (doubtful, considering CV's rather poor state in Japan-land).

I saw this on another forum, but since I didn't get a chance to post my thoughts on it all:

It's really something to see how often Inafune continues to slander his fellow Japanese devs and talk about the West as if it were a saviour of some sort. First things first, Japanese development is at it's ceative peak these days just going based on DS development. The complexity of some of those games prove that Japanese development is not only healthy but going stronger than ever. They might be missing the boat in terms of console games, but when the astronomical price tags needed to produce things on the 360/PS3 come into play, leaving no room for experimental games or the occasional new genre, who can blame them?

Next up, I want to say that while Capcom has been hitting some amazing highs this generation, I do feel as though they are trying too hard to cater to western audiences by westernizing everything big that they do. I hope that this is just a silly fear on my part though. The west needs to stick to making western styled games while the east continues to make eastern styled games. It's that yin & yang that allows for diversity in the market. The instant one tries to emulate the other for whatever reason is the instant when creativity dies and we get closer to a "one flavor, one style" conformity.

The hard part is figuring out what consumers want.

Admittedly, I'm proudly part of the problem, because Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Muramasa, and No More Heroes just don't appeal to me, and Westernizing it doesn't solve anything.

I laughed when Halo was released, but somehow it didn't become an "FPS Flavor of the Month."

Why does Mega Man not appeal compared to Halo's burned out settings?

And why is Brutal Legend so hotly anticipated when early reports are that the gameplay's weak? What drove M&L: Bowser's Inside Story?

STORY. Capcom's got a nasty habit of making paper-thin plots.

I think the better word for it is scenario Aldo. There are a very select few games where the story would be a focal point over the gameplay for me. Scenarios however refer to the presentation and hook of the games.

And yeah, it really is tough to try and read the markets, but whatever happened to making the market want your game? Nifty advertising and media exposure certainly helps when you want t pimp something new.

HyperSonicEXE

Scenario is a pretty new term for me and for reviewers.

Advertising is good for just that; introducing characters and plots that would make potential buyers give a ****.

That kind of intrigue was what made MMBN2 and 3 so great, and why Starforce failed to deliver in SF2 and 3. The players cared about Omega-Xis and Geo's dad, but everyone knew their fates long before MMSF3's ending.

Same for ZX/A.
