News and Announcements / Re: Mega Man 11 OFFICIAL TRAILER Announcement
« on: January 03, 2018, 07:44:35 PM »
Yeah! I saw this trailer when they released it on YouTube and I'm super excited. The last time I was this excited about a video game release was back in 2003 when I learned about Halo 2 coming out the year after that! I can't wait to see how this game pans out after release. Who knows, perhaps the seven years without a Mega Man game was exactly what the franchise needed to really focus on pushing forwards and getting out of the stagnant water it had been in for the past decade.
As much as I personally enjoyed, and still do enjoy a great deal, Mega Man's 9 and 10 this feels like the proper Next Step this franchise should have taken a long time ago. I don't think I'm going to follow the development of this game too closely though because I want to be totally surprised by everything the game has to offer when it comes out so don't be surprised if I'm not around until later this year after the game drops!

Here's hoping this somehow sells enough for them to do something like this with the gameboy games. Perhaps with Color this time. I won't hold my breath tho.

Beat the game on normal last night. Gotta say it feels really close to the NES megaman games for the most part. Really hard in some places and easy in others. Interestingly
there is no Rush for the main 8 stages. You can use him in the Wily stages though!
It's also cool that the achievements' are used to unlock certain goodies like more characters and such. I know I'm a minority on this but I didn't like Megaman Unlimited so this was a breath of fresh air to me in how it played.
All the bosses are amped up to be a little tougher and the stages use the elements from their old stages but with newer stuff added and totally changed up. Also the Wily Stages were cranked up to freakin 12 in terms of difficulty.
Wily Stage 3 in particular is very meteoid styled and ends with you fighting Enker,Punk, then Ballade ina row. Good luck!!
Outside of some minor glitches (sometimes the slide doesn't work) and one major soft lock (don't charge Pharoah Shot before going through a teleporter, trust me) it's solid and feels like the Megaman you know and love.
If you like hard Megaman games this is a good pick. If not it has a difficulty setting which can make it easier or harder.
----------
Some tips
*Megaman can slide, don't forget because the game won't.
*To use the E tank you have to first select it like a weapon the hit the shoot button.
*You keep E tanks even if you Game Over.
*You have to do the Wily Stages in one shot so grind for lives and such well before you enter.
*There are some secret rooms and shortcuts if you're attentive and/or have the right weapons.
*You can always collect items then return to the stage select.
*If the game is running too slowly lower the resolution until it feels better.
-----------
I might write up somewhat of a strategy guide if people need it but you shouldn't need one. If my dumb face can find all the secrets you can too!
------------
I have yet to try the 2-player mode.

As for the 'spewing gunk' in the middle part, the trick is to take out the base. Once that happens, you can chill on the upper platforms since the gunk can't reach you at that height.
Then again I'm trying to avoid the transformations and just go pure buster when I can.

Btw seriously, everyone, turn down the SFX volume to like 1/4 of the bar and the Voices to about 1/3 but keep the music at MAX for the best soundscaoe during the levels!! Otherwise you'll never ever ever get to enjoy the music.

Okay so 9 bosses down (mighty 1-8 plus the dlc Raychel).
I can safely say there is a definitive weakness chain ala Megaman and I wont spoil it but the game DOES tell you which weapon to use if you pay attention in the stages after you've beaten a boss or two. Even better there are also weapons that do more damage/more useful than the Beck Buster even if it isn't AS good as the proper weakness.
Imho the best level is Slash Beast I mean Mighty No 7 with the worst probably being Mighty No 4.
Btw after turning down the SFX to like 1/4 of the volume and the voices to about 1/3 I can clearly hear the music and it's rally good even if they aren't too catchy (sans the fight theme and Zer- mighty no 7)
The sniper rifle form is my go to form and the rest are kinda fun but not anywhere as usual barring maybe the sword and grenade forms.
Btw I don't know if this happens to anyone else but for some reason when I use the Helicopter form the blade like to fly into the foreground more often than not, a glitch?

« on: June 22, 2016, 05:01:31 AM »Tl;dr don't believe the reviews, the gameplay is satisfying and addictive. The controls are 100% responsive and easy to pull off. Unlike Megaman this game wants you to go very fast and kill everything.
You can dash, air dash, and low dash. Best part? Not limited to a single air dash and can keep doing it, although you lose altitude quickly. Also you can change directions and grab a ledge if you feel you're going to miss a jump.
I'm about 4 bosses in and the powers are pretty fun and have some utility to them. Near as I can tell there is kind of a weakness chain but not really. It's all about finding the right weapon to satisfy the conditions.
I.e. If there's a lot of small things at once use the Pyro form, if there's an enemy at an awkward angle use Dyna form. Etc.
You'll find yourself switching forms frequently.
The difficulty comes from 3 places.
Your Xcelerate(the dash kill), hazards, and tough bosses.
Lemme explain the risk of Xcelerating. You hit an enemy X number of times, they flash a color, then you dash into them. The faster you do it the more Xel (points and [parasitic bomb]) you get as well as boosts in power, speed, and I think defense. However there are a lot of times there are many enemies placed at once or a really precarious situation so you can't dash all Willy nilly. You have to be careful and fast. That's where the excitement and frustration. You wanna go fast but you need to pay attention because this game is NOT shy about 1 hit deaths. Hell, a boss has one. (very avoidable though)
The music feels very Megaman 1 (swear I hear part of Firemans theme in the boss tune..) and the sounds are great although the voices and SFX drown the music out! You can turn those down and its much better. You can also adjust your controls to your liking. I set Dash to the ZL (left bumper) because of the Zero/Zx series and it feels a lot better.
Graphics are good for an indie game and a Wii U title but nothing worth mentioning really.
This game is all about the gameplay and it feels great.
I bought it on the Wii U shop for $20 and picked up the DLC for an additional $5.
Definitely worth it. Haven't touched the DLC yet.
+Fun as hell
+Tough but fair
+Feels fresh with some Megaman vibes
+Multiple air dashes (!)
+Good visual design and characters
+controls are flawless
+Great price
+Music never feels out of place or too subdued
---------
-Lazy storytelling
-Bad story
-No facial animations
-So-so English voice acting at best
-Stages aren't very difficult or interesting in places
-Very long load times even for just respawning!!!
It's a very good game just don't go in expecting Megaman 11 or whatever. Playing it like a Megaman game will [tornado fang] you hard!!
