X / Re: X7-X8 never happend?
« on: April 10, 2010, 01:16:14 AM »
Hooray! I'm actually pretty okay with this whole idea. Don't get me wrong, I like the latter X games, but they really, REALLY made no sense and had nothing to do with the X/Zero series getting connected. Frankly I'm 100% fine with X's wimpy pacifist breakdown in X7 never happening, either.

Axl getting unborn is a nice bonus too.  ;) But seriously, Axl is alright, but him never existing won't make me lose any sleep.

But yeah, I like this idea, I'm glad they're tring to tie everything together and make sense of this mess.

Oh of course.  I'm such a fan of classic Eng. dubbing.  It's so awful that it borderlines on brilliance!

Exactly, it's a classic example of "So bad it's Good".

I take it you got to watch the early dub? It's hilarious. The voice acting is horrible. Having seen both versions though, the Japanese voices aren't much better, but I think that's because the characters aren't really easy to work with.

Actually you just missed April Fools day so that's why some of our names seem extra silly.

Aaaah, I see. Haha, funny stuff! Hate that I missed that. I have a plethora of silly names at my disposal. :D

FEEL FREE TO SKIP DOWN TO "THE POINT" IF YOU DON'T LIKE READING BACKGROUND INFO, LONG POSTS OR WHATEVER

There's a good chance some of you guys have heard of this, but by and large, MD Geist is a little OVA series that time forgot... And by and large it's probably better that way.

MD Geist came out of the same period of the 1980's that Genocyber and Megazone 23 came out of, which is roughly around when the OVA first emerged (or so I've been told). This is also the period where Japanese animators were convinced that the human body's entrails were made of pressurized cotton candy and eyeballs could come shooting out of a person's head if they sneezed wrong. With the exception of Megazone 23 (which is a flippin' sweet OVA series, by the way), Genocyber and MD Geist relied sort of exclusively on the shock-factor of seeing copious amounts of gore in an anime for the first time to increase their sales. The result? Well... Kind of up in the air. They really didn't leave a massive impact on their target audience, but they've both amassed a cult following over the years, just because of how camp and over-the-top their gore is.

Anywho, MD Geist is ridiculous. Well and truly ridiculous. The plot is less than coherent and the visuals are hardly impressive, even within the scope of the era it was released in. But for some reason, I can't help but like MD Geist. It appeals to the bestial part of my brain that Fist of the North Star and Clint Eastwood movies do, in that its hokey manliness just makes me wanna go out back and kick down a tree or something tough like that.

THE POINT

But yeah, tangents and boring history stuff aside, I just wondered if anyone out there had heard of this particular little gas of an OVA? If so, you guys got any particular feelings towards it? I linked a youtube AMV with the series' theme "Violence of the Flames" by Hironobu Kageyama to this post for anyone interested. The AMV really kinda does a good job of capturing the spirit of the series, and the campy Kageyama song helps drive the point home (nothing against Mr. DBZ, mind you). What you see in this video is what MD Geist basically is: Ridiculous manly good times.

It's like... pseudo-gory. It might not be something you wanna open up at work, school, or somewhere that someone will look at you funny for watching it. But yeah, if campy gore bugs you, give this a miss.

EDIT

Genocyber was actually an early 90's OVA series. WHOOPS. I always have trouble distinguishing from late 80's/early 90's OVA's, not much really changed. But yeah, just for the sake of saying it, my bad.

I wake up only to find this thread hijacked by PB and others. Ah well.

Welcome, Jukebox_Hero. I'd say the usual "Enjoy your stay at RPM" spiel, but I can see you already are.

I appreciate the welcome, Lameass. Do you mind me just calling you Lameass? I'm not trying to be a douche, I just think you've got a mad funny/cool screen name.

I'm digging how this scene is getting all Foreigner-upped.  owob

This is one of their most famous mainstream songs!  Man, it's like Foreigner Friday on RPM tonight!   8B

Fun PB fact:

During the East Coast blackout of 2003, during my long, LOOOOOOONG walk home from work, when I was walking with a huge group of people when I got to the 59th St. bridge, I decided to see if I could get a group of us to start singing, and I chose Hot Blooded as my song.  I actually got a bunch of people to join in!

See, that's awesome. I can never find enough fans of one particular band to start any kind of group sing-a-long with. That's what I get for living up in the hills of West Virginia, I suppose.

But I digrest I'll definitly visit New York someday.

Sorry to hear about those issues with your grandma, but yeah, you need to check NYC out. It's a heck of a city. There's something for everyone there.

Glad I'm not the only Foreigner fan in the house.

YOU'RE AS COLD AS ICE!

♫ You're as cold as ice! You're willing to sacrifice our love!
You never take advice! Someday you'll pay the price, I know... ♫

Sure hope that was a shout-out to the Foreigner song, otherwise I'd just feel quite awkward.  XD

I've heard some rumbles on the forum of a company other than Atlus bringing the two PS2 games overseas. But it was just a "Which game do you want us to import next?" type of deal, I dunno how legit that sort of thing is. I'd love to see it. I forget which publisher it was, though...

It sucks that the first to OG's didn't go over very well, I was mad excited when they first announced they were localizing them. But whatevs, if they got their hands on OG3 (I think it's only a matter of time before that comes along), I'd be pretty excited. By that time I may have worked my way through the Alpha series. :D

Okay, wow, holy smokes, did not know this was in the works.

Things I'm disappointed with: No Akira Kamiya for Kenshiro and no Kenji Utsumi for Raoh.

Things I'm totally freaking pumped for: Everything else.

Snap, man. I've been wanting to see HnK be reborn in glorious Next Gen and now it's finally happening. And a friggin' Dynasty Warriors/Musou system?? That's brilliant! Well, so long as it isn't as buggy as Gundam Musou 1&2.  ;)

The attention to detail is magnificent, though (IE Toki's enemies screaming "kimochi!" while dying at the hands of his Ujou-ken) and the graphics are just gorgeous...

I kinda got into nerdy fan-gasm mode for a bit, sorry. But dang this is sweet. I'm down with all the violence they deem fit to add. This is the manliest manga ever, after all.

From what I can see from some of the posts, it looks like an American release hasn't been confirmed yet, yeah? I may be mistaken, but if not then thank God for region-free next gen consoles. Even if it only makes it to Europe I'll import that junk. Just so long as they leave in an option for Japanese voices. That's really what put the nail in the coffin for me with Gundam Musou 2. Along with Amuro deciding to hurl himself at the Psycho Gundam until he died for no reason 30 flippin' times in the Hong Kong mission for Zeta Gundam mode...  X( But yeah, that's another story. Who cares, if push comes to shove I'll gladly import the Japanese version.

Casino Street/Night doesn't look bad. If Sega can pull this off, I'd be all for giving it a shot. A return to classic Sonic is something I've wanted for years. 'Course, now I totally suck at the games. I gave Sonic 2 a spin (ho ho) the other day and it kinda left my rear quarters in ruins.

It's so embarrassing, over the last 11 years, I somehow started sucking at games I could play blindfolded as a kid.  >w<

Definitely looking forward to this. I hope and pray it comes stateside. I'd love to see the other two PS2 OG's make it, but everyone tells me that won't happen because Sony requires a dual audio track for localizing a PS2 game or some such nonsense. Atlus confirmed they had no interest in localizing them sometime last year, so boo hoo.  :|

Oh well, if they pick this game up, that'd rock my socks.

This is me looking at a camera. I had not shaved in three days and looked like a dirty hobo. Someday my scruff will be manly and not wispy.  >w<

I'm new here, but now seems as good a time as any to post what I look like, amirite?

Yo, Ladies and Gentlemen!

I go by Jukebox Hero (Yeah, after the wicked Foreigner song), but feel free to call me by my real name Miles. My interests are all over the place, but one thing I definitely love is Mega Man. I've been coming around RPM for a couple of years now and finally decided to start posting in the forums. Hafta have some way to talk to other fans, right? The crowd(s) I run with don't always include video game players of any sort, so making some internet friends to talk about my geeky habits with would be ballin'.  8D

I'm studying history at a small University in West Virginia and DJ the campus radio station under the handle of DJ Douglas Fetterman, which there is a shameless plug for in my Avatar. It's fun and junk, but not what I plan to do forever. But yeah, I sing, I act, I travel the world and get into adventures, play mad video games... I can't really tether myself to a title or label, I'm kinda all over the place. I'm friendly and hope to contribute to the awesome community you guys have!

Peace.
