*blows dust off new News button*
Haven't had to do this in a while, but well yeah, this is legit news. According to this article on Deadline (http://deadline.com/2015/06/mega-man-video-game-tv-animated-series-1201435971/), we are getting a brand new Mega Man animated series on television in 2017, which would coincide with the 30th anniversary of our beloved franchise. Dentsu Entertainment USA and Man of Action Entertainment will partner up to create this new iteration of the Super Fighting Robot (see what I did there? 8D). If you need some street cred on Man of Action Entertainment, here you go.
QuoteMan of Action Entertainment is the bi-coastal creative collective responsible for such mega-hits as the Ben 10 empire and Generator Rex on Cartoon Network, and writing and producing Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel's Avengers Assemble for Disney XD. They are also the creators of the characters and team that populate Disney/Marvel's hit feature film, Big Hero 6, the first-ever Disney animated feature based on a Marvel property.
More on this as it develops. Either way, WOOHOO!!!!
Of hell yes, it's a [tornado fang]ing miracle! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! 0v0
I want to see animated Protoman in all his badass glory when this comes out!
I'm very happy about this because essentially THIS is what I've been calling for. I said back during all the [parasitic bomb] that went down with MML3 is that they need to re-garner interest in the franchise and get new kids and such to want to play MegaMan and this is the best way to do it.
Yeah nothing drives merchandise like TV shows.

Well I kind of liked Generator Rex and the first 2 Ben 10's before Ultimate Alien before they decided to [parasitic bomb] on Ben's character growth by making him reverse his maturity after he defeated the High Breed. God I hated that.
/me shrugs
I'll refrain from getting excited until I see the first trailer. Or at least some screens.
I'm fairly mixed towards Man of Action's track record.
Considering Ultimate Spiderman I don't blame you, though I've never seen Avengers Assemble.
Huh.
Well.
I do hope this is good and takes off. I know I'll watch it. Might rekindle my interest in the franchise again, because let's face it, it's been dead for a while.

Understatement of the century. I hope this does well. At least better than Sonic Boom.
I really hope the character designs look good too, though I wonder if they would include Time Man and Oilman as unlikely as it seems. I kind of like those 2 myself.

That's the true hope I have for this show. That it will rekindle interest as well as garner more interest from this new generation who knows nothing about MegaMan.
I mean, take it into perspective. The last proper MM title - Rockman 10 - was released in 2010, five years ago. Five. Years. (I don't count the other stuff like Xover and SF x MM).
I mean, for such a big name franchise as Mega Man, that's ridiculous. There have been more Resident Evils and Metal Gear Solids in the last five years than there has entries in a series that predates the former and is as old as the latter.
Right, and those games were more fanservice to the classic crowd, like me, than anyone else. The newer generation is not interested. This might be the best chance to get them interested.

Yep.
The best thing that could happen is that this serves as a repeat of what EXE/BN did for the brand back in the early 2000s: new franchise, new take on a classic character revamped for a modern day audience, which goes on to sell well and makes the brand healthier, as a whole. Whether that means revamping a Rockman we already know (Classic or X), or a brand new series, that's up to Capcom and co. But to say the least, it's the most exciting thing we've had to look forward to regarding the brand and I'm looking forward to it. Besides, remember how we were still getting X and Zero games, even as EXE was the main flagship during that period? If I could at least get a periodic Classic series release every so often in between releases of the new series, that'd be nice. 8D
In any case, I know someone over at Archie Comics must be whooping and jumping for joy over this news. They're looking to be FINALLY getting some help from Capcom when it comes to trying to sell a comic based on one of their IPs!
So, this is what it takes to get you to acknowledge this site again. 8D

Eh... I'll wait and see. Wouldn't object if they took some cues from the Archie series.
Something makes me wonder if this was done to counter the Mighty No. 9 cartoon. And a western-style Mega Man could be an Archie case or a Ruby Spears. Or even worse and I don't want to imagine that being possible.
It'd be a sad day if they can actually top the stupidity of this.

Well, take what you can of it, the first image of the 2017 Mega Man series is shown:
I kinda like the "Tron-like" look they've given him though they can have a larger image of him and make his arms and legs a little buffer but it is an art style. Many might not agree with it.
Then the synopsis:
"Aki Light is a robot living in Silicon City. Despite being a robot, he still leads a normal life and attends school. He also has quite a secret. His programming allows him to transform into Mega Man, complete with a Mega Buster and nanocore armor. He has to balance leading a dual life, where he's a normal, robot attending school with other kids, while also transforming into Mega Man to protect Silicon City. Rush will also return as his pet robot dog."

What do you guys think?
Expect a lot of people crying and spewing insults on how Capcom screwed it up once again...
I'm cautiously curious.
Hmm I don't know, it looks promising to me.
Judging by this and another press release I saw, (http://www.dhxmedia.com/newsreleases/dhx-media-dentsu-entertainment-usa-inc-strike-global-deal-new-animated-mega-man-series/#) it's pretty much the situation I feared if i'm gauging this correctly; their own continuity take, more of a comedy / slice of life focus with the action being something that's just expected (like the new Powerpuff Girls or Sonic Boom), and new things like the 'Mega-Mini' character that sound like toyline advertisements.

I took a look at what people say about the PPG reboot and... ughhhh. I am speechless.
I really hope this new Mega Man series ISN'T too bad, but it's like people are afraid of making kid superhero shows nowadays.
I'm cautiously optimistic.
The concept reminds me of the DreamWave comics.
Looks somewhat promising. We'll see though.

Xover actually looked like it could fit into the MM continuity. This, on the other hand, is just...something else entirely. I don't know what it is, but it ain't Mega Man.
It's different. Which doesn't mean it's bad. We'll see.
Honestly I like it, it reminds me of X and Megaman Exe. And at least he doesn't have the Egg feet, though I could do with some more armor.
Sweet, now I can be a hipster and say I preferred the OLD megaman.
Nothing's gonna top the classic artstyle circa MM8 for me personally.
This is.... yikes. No contrasting colors, shades of blue blue and darker blue, not even Classic Megaman was this flat looking.
well we gotta be realistic

What and why?
I mean things like this, if done right, can be good but this seem... unnecessary for Mega Man unless it was Roll and/or Dr. Light calling him on coms to communicate with him on missions.
I'm still going to give this a chance, but this is not giving me a lot of confidence in this series.

It probably is and it's 100% the right decision.
you know what was also a reboot, and was actually good?
Battle Network.
call me cynical, but this is not giving me the same good vibes
You're cynical!
I'm being a cynic too, but mostly because the concept for the cartoon reeks of modern CN trends and a new continuity/reboot on Mega Man's 30th anniversary is way too coincidental. Out with the old, besides familiar characters and elements, in with the new and an attempt to start Mega Man a-new with a Sonic Boom style of comedy and light-hearted action.
And after Sonic Boom, which I really didn't mind much but didn't like much either, I can't see this as rising above anything more than average at best.
I like how every one else online is judging the new series based on two concept art pieces and simple description of the overall theme.
We don't even have a trailer yet-so I'm not going to even try to claim I have informed opinion until we see one. Would also like to point out both Transformers Animated and Transformers Prime had terrible pre-trailer reveals and both series turned out to be enjoyable and well written even beast wars had the same issues pre-release with people tearing it apart on concept alone-what I'm saying is we as Megaman fans should be used to "reboots" at this point (despite the lose connections between the various X related series) so chill and lets wait for some actual in show footage in motion. 8D
Flame I'm mostly looking at you. :P
That's what I mean by cautiously curious. This could either turn out great like Sonic Boom's animated series/Transformers Prime or it can be another PPG. It'll swing either way.
Is Sonic Boom even that good?
A better example would be Spectacular Spider-Man. Awful character designs, but the show itself is amazing. Like, really damn good.
Still, I highly doubt this Mega Man series will be anywhere near the same league, because a huge reason why Spectacular was critically acclaimed is due to Greg Weisman's involvement.
Yeah, Sonic Boom's animated series is actually very enjoyable.
Yeah I've heard Sonic Boom has some pretty snappy writing.
I saw the episode with Shadow, and I chuckled a couple of times. But I don't know, it doesn't seem like anything above average.
Here's how I look at this whole thing.
It's not Rock and I'm glad it's not Rock. If it were Rock, then I'd be upset. But it's not. He's Aki, and they're making a whole new type of MegaMan series around him, which is the right thing to do. That way, this can essentially be judged on its own, good or bad. This isn't going to take away from the classic series, the X series, or any other beloved MegaMan series. It's a chance for them to get a new generation to spend money on MegaMan stuff, be it games, toys, etc. It's essentially what My Little Pony did, and it worked magnificently. Like Phi & Blue mentioned, plenty of other series have shown off terrible concept art, like Spectacular Spidey (siiiiiiiiigh [tornado fang] you Marvel), Transformers: Prime/Beast Wars, etc. Hell, I was not a fan of the new look/animation of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show and turns out it's actually really good.
Also, it's not like there's ever been a good MegaMan cartoon before. Love them as I do, both RS-MM and Battle Network were bad cartoons! XD
Axess was actually pretty good....then it went downhill from there.....

So much this.
Megaman needs fresh fans-it needs to distance it's self from the past and reinvent it's self for a new generation. Even if this reboot only turns out to be average-thats not necessarily a bad thing, not everything has to be the next Avatar:The Last Airbender or Steven Universe; Sometimes just being good is enough-and either way having Megaman being in other mediums can only really help the franchise at this point, because if we are getting a rebooted series you can bet there will be a video game tie in.

The funny thing is, Steven Universe did NOT start out as a show I liked at all. It wasn't until they actually started getting into character development and their lore that it started getting interesting. But that took more time than I usually give shows, and I stuck with it because my friend insisted. Haha.

Kinda the same way here-although I never really clicked with SU. I know it's a well written show with great characters and I actually find them quite likeable-but for reasons I'm not to sure about I could never get into that frame of mind where I would religiously try to see the new episodes.
Not like Last Air Bender and Korra where I was constantly trying to find the new episodes and binge watch the series. Again not saying I dislike SU just could never really get into it, confusing I know. 8D

I LOVE Gravity Falls! One of the best Disney shows this generation! ^_^
A shame it ended with 2 seasons but I understand the creator's desire to end it short as it keep its charm without dragging it over many seasons and losing its flavor. Though they might continue it one day consider the hidden message by Bill in Stan's mindscape.
Anyway back on topic so how is everyone's thoughts on the 2017 Mega Man design? I do like it but personally it should've been more like this fan's rendering of it:

^Do you think this would've been a better look for the 2017 MM?
I personally prefer that yeah, but even despite my cynicism I'm still willing to give the other one a chance.
Ugh I don't know, that design really doesn't look good, the cyan parts are way too jarring. That and it looks way too much like mini X.

Well only the helmet part gives him that X look but he does look like classic Mega Man more. Or do you prefer this instead?

Uh no, those round Classic Megaman arms make the entire design fall apart not to mention the round nonsensical stomach cover. I still prefer Aki over both of them.
Still not sure if I should judge the new show design because all we've seen is one frame-I kinda want to see it in action before I say I like it or not.
That and if I like the show's writing too. Either way it's quite a ways off. 8D
Yeah I admit while I'm fine with Aki's design and don't really mind Mega Mini as weird as it is since we don't know what the heck it is I am worried with Man of Action's track record. They can make anything a hit or a huge miss.

Eh, well can't win them. ^_^
Well I did enjoy watching Ben 10 (prefer the first series anime-like designs) and Generator Rex shows. I hope they made this MM show decent.
If it has decent writing and developed characters I'll honestly be happy-I can get over character designs in the end-I liked Adventure Time and I can't say I really like it's artstyle that much.
Man of Action's artstyle isn't what I'm worried about but rather the quality of the cartoons since again Man of Action has a hit or miss track record.
Granted it seems they only really had a hand in the first Ben 10 so I can't blame the mess of the current Ben 10 franchise on them and Generator Rex was pretty good. On the other hand there's Ultimate Spiderman, which really sucks on multiple levels.

Any idea if the direction of Ultimate Spiderman was on Marvel's end or theirs?
Seems to be Man of Action, Brian Micheal Bendis, and Paul Dini, ironically, who are the brains behind it according to TV Tropes. Executive Producers are Stan Lee and Jeph Loeb.
I'll do some more digging to be sure.
EDIT: Yeah Man of Action, Bendis and Dini are in charge of the writting.
Well, let's hope this doesn't end up like Ultimate Spider-Man.
Well in the initial press release stuff and such, they stated something along the lines of "well everyone knows mega's comedy, so we hoped to expand along those lines," although I may be incorrectly paraphrasing there. So I still say that Capcom and Man of Action is attempting their own Sonic Boom, and honestly I can't really see Mega Man being whacky and funny in the same way as Sonic. Especially considering the whole plot synopsis so far doesn't even mention Dr. Wily at all and they really are going with the generic schoolboy with a hero persona style.
We'll have to wait and see how they do it then, I mean it could work depending on Aki's personality and side characters, but it will be hard to pull off well. I mean honestly this really doesn't give me much hope, but I can't discount it til I see it.
...Aki is still a robot right?
I mean is this still a show about robots?
Yeah Aki is a Robot but I think he's pretending to be Human to have something of a normal life. Think of it like being a Super Hero but with comedy apparently.
Yeah I know what they're going for. I'm not sure how happy I am about it but... Well, we'll see.
Yeah I admit I am more worried now since honestly Man of Action's comedy isn't very good, and when I think of past Megaman and comedy I think Ruby Spears and that's not good.
Oh common who didn't love.
Megaman: Now I've got your power!
*Pharoman Punches Megaman in the face*
Ruby Spear series had plenty of good funny moments. Wily was pretty entertaining too. 8D
Yeah but that wasn't intentionally funny though. :\
Oh I don't know-I have a feeling they knew exactly what they were doing with that scene. 8D
I'd much rather have something be unintentionally funny than for it to try to be funny and fall flat.
I actually rewatched the Ruby Spears show a month or so ago. And I love it still. Yeah the plots get really out there, but I just have a lot of fun with it. I feel I'm laughing with the show just as much as I'm laughing at it, if that makes sense. It has a plethora of YouTube Poop material, but I feel the show sorta knows how silly it is. How else could Curse of the Lion Men have been made? Plus, the theme song and Scott McNeil are genuinely awesome.
The Ruby Spears cartoon really does fit into that so bad it's good category.
Oh absolutely!
Agreed, and we will always remember Megaman being a Patriotic Doofus and the epic bromance between him and Protoman, even though they are Brothers and bitter enemies. 8D
Aki Light will never know the experience of his evil robot brother trying to blast Lincoln.
I wonder what Protoman would be like in that show now that I think about it.

Plus, the theme song and Scott McNeil are genuinely awesome.
pls tell me where I can find all series episodes...
PLEASE FOR SCIENCE O^O
I was hoping for an adaption similar to the archie comics version. Still, it will be kind of interesting to see brand new versions of the characters.

KissCartoon should have them.
SCIENCE!!
If anyone's interested... -_- (EDIT: I personally thinks it looks okay for those few seconds we saw)
That is way too short of a clip to properly judge, so nothing has really changed for me.
Mega Man: Ben 10 Edition could be entertaining if the action is good, and it seems they're trying to make it semi-flashy.
Jesus that looks awful.
I think I'm gonna go back and rewatch my Ruby Spears DVDs with newfound appreciation
Yeah sorry. I know that's only a few seconds and probably work in progress but that looks genuinely awful. The backgrounds don't mesh at all with the animation and the visual effects are just... Nonsensical.
I PRAY the final result doesn't look remotely like that.
Spectacular Spidey was also simplistic, yet it's one of the best goddamn superhero cartoons out there.
I'm more concerned about the writing quality at this point.
I mean I've seen worse, but I'm mainly concerned with the writing.
Fireman has a visible mouth.
...
...
I like Drillman though. 8D

Spectacular Spiderman actually looked pretty good. This looks almost like flash animation. Of the cheap-ish kind
Spidey looked like flash animation at times, too.
Yeah both had some flash quality moments.
Then I wouldn't consider the flash animation moments for a demo reel, but that's just me.
This is all pre-production stuff I guess, so we'll see how it goes.
Yeah again I'm more concerned with the writing. At least the Art Style it self looks how I expected for Megaman.
EDIT: Also what I expected from Man of Action not gonna lie.
Would love to know what you're talking about, but they took the video down/made it private.
A 30 second spot of upcoming cartoons including the 2017 Megaman Cartoon, but yeah unfortunately it's gone.
EDIT: Oh [parasitic bomb], not only was the video taken down, images on other sites were requested to be taken down as well.
EDIT 2: Okay if you click on the replaced images on this site, you'll see the original Images.

looks bleh still but i imagine its better looking in motion.
also i get that megaman is a japanese property but why does a japanese company like Dentsu have the rights to a US TV series that's most likely not going to ever be shown in japan? Just so they can be stingy with copyright and take down videos?
Heck if I know, I also had no idea that the Megaman Cartoon was proposed for Cartoon Network and moved to Disney XD, or maybe I forgot. Considering Cartoon Network's tendency to shove "high rating media darling" shows in our faces constantly ie Johnny Test and Teen Titans GO and shafting others in terms of scheduling I don't blame them for the transfer.

Transformers Animated was the same, an odd visual style but in the end the writing shone through and it was one of the best TF series that like Spiderman was cut tragically short due to BS from Hasbro wanting their own cartoon channel.
Then again TF Animated had alot of Beast Wars people behind it so the quality was gonna be there regardless.
I'd say lets see a few complete episodes and not worry about the animation for the moment.
sure seems like damage control with that quick takedown.
Nah it's just Japanese Anime Companies are dicks when it comes to copy right protection.

Sad but true. :(
Wow, that stuff looks like a bad deviantArt project. The writing better be spectacular to make this watchable. Given the plot details we already know however, my expectations are so low I'm about to pull out the shovel and dig it's grave early so it can settle right in just as the airing of episode 1 comes to a close.
GOOD NIGHT SWEET PRINCE

AUUUGHHH
He sounds like a 40 year old man imitating a child.
And I thought this was 2D animation, what happened
Did they ever say it was going to be 2D? I honestly don't remember anymore.
Well at least it *kinda* looks like megaman now
I guess
i said this on the discord but this is just
awful
People are already calling it Sonic Boom: Mega Man edition, but let's be honest; at least even with how much the characters got flanderized to fit a group dynamic, Sonic Boom doesn't [tornado fang] with the characters enough to make everything unrecognizable, and any fan could jump into any episode and still see it as Sonic. Mega-Mini looks like a forced gag character inserted for merchandise intents and Mega Man- oh i'm sorry, Aki Light doesn't.. doesn't really seem to evoke 'Mega Man' to me with his strange noodleboy tron redesign. It feels more like a chinese ripoff.
Maybe i'm being too harsh but with how they're butchering Ben 10 now, I don't really expect this to break trending expectations with these kinds of shows.
Sonic Boom is genuinely good and genuinely funny at times. So far this just looks cringy.
(watches clip with sound muted)
Well, at least the animation itself looks okay-ish? Still waiting for a preview focused on the actual setting; I really hope they did something interesting with it and didn't just leave it at 'random future cities infested with Robot Masters'.
Seems the cartoon has been delayed to 2018.
So either A: They are waiting for capcom to finish what ever game they want to release along side this reboot
B: They want to retool stuff due to negative fan reaction to the initial footage
or C: This is the red flag that the series is not ever gonna come out.
Or I guess they just needed more time to finish stuff--if you dont want to be dramatic. 8D
Well maybe they'll cut out their weak link named Canada.
They also apparently went back to Cartoon Network again for some reason.
I think the delay is because of the change to the CG style like with Miraculous Ladybug.

that tends to be the case in like... all animation these days
y'all saw that captain underpants trailer right? cartoon children all have man voices now
So in the latest MoA-MM news post at Protodude's site, there's more than a few people freaking out over the possibility that Megaman 11 would be based on this show.
Even though there's no precedent of Capcom pulling something like that with MM. The rights tangle alone would put them off; besides, they tend to ignore stuff outside the games unless it's good for a laugh (and even then, most of the Bad Box Art stuff was in SPIN-OFFS).
Archie-MM was one of the only ongoing bits of media we had for a while, and we never got an MM11 that integrated some of the comic characters.
Let's be honest here, if they're going to release any sort of a game at this point it's going to be a reboot/reimagining based on the show (if it does well). The classics will likely go untouched.
True, it would also be the smarter idea-classic megaman and it's spinoffs are really only remembered by older gamers at this point, the reboot needs to draw in NEW blood into the franchise.
That said, goodbye for good for any older series if that happens. Goodbye Legends 3 forever and goodbye ZX3 forever.
What's resolving a cliffhanger anyway? They've done a good job taking a note from Valve on that front.
You say that like Capcom had any plans to revive MML3 or start ZX3 to begin with. :U
Seriously--while it seems like Capcom's getting better, this is still the same company that dumped MML3 at practically the first chance they got. I'm not sure what it'd take to get that project running again.
I think its time the fanbase just accepts conclusions to Megaman Legends and ZX are never gonna happen-the market just isn't there beyond the vocal dwindling fanbase.
this kills the ammy

I'm not sure what it'd take to get that project running again.
some day in a galaxy far far away, Capcom could revive it's methodology of remakes, and remake Legends 1 and 2, and if they sell well, make Legends 3.
will likely never happen, we'd have to wait for Classic and X to get that treatment first
New promo image featuring some RMs. (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2018/03/new-mega-man-animated-series-robot.html) Among the familiar faces is a mysterious angel-bot.
MoA-MM will appear in the MIPTV tradeshow in April; hopefully we'll learn more then.
(Don't read the comments unless you want to watch a bunch of entitled dipshits actively hope for this cartoon that's not even out yet to fail because it doesn't appeal to them.)
It seems it's gonna be a seperate continuity much like the Archie comics, but even less attach to the normal Megaman plot much like Sonic Boom is to normal Sonic. So with that in mind we have to wait and see but it's honestly gonna be absolutely impossible to compare it to the "source material" which unfortunately is a major problem with said "entitled dipshits".
Either way I'm keeping an open mind on this.
Maybe you have something different in mind, but it does make me think of how many complaints are that it's a "bastardization" of Classic MM and not a separate thing that borrows a lot of characters/visual cues from Classic MM.
I just hope that it won't be completely impossible to have honest discussions on MoA-MM when it airs.
Yeah me too.
I'm more curious of the reactions of my little cousins since that's the market they're aiming more for.
Looks like they at least improved the artstyle a bit.
Did they get rid of that mini-mite thing?
I think it's because it's in CGI now?
As for Mega-Mite I have no idea, it would be nice if he was gone.
Sorry about the late response but uh, I'm a little behind. Was this delayed or something?
Probably the one Mega Man project I wish WOULD get cancelled.
Even more news that pretty much confirms it's a full on Spin Off.

Considering it was on the death slot of 6:30 AM on Sundays it's no wonder. That being said you can still watch it online.
