I've dropped laptops without issue and dropped my smartphone already and it was fine. Dropped my 3DS and it was fine. Dropped controllers, thrown controllers, sat on controllers, stepped on controllers... all beaten-up controllers were fine.

How does dropping a controller once screw up the entire system? I don't understand that.

And my smoke alarm is broken and needs replaced and its beeping is driving me nuts and it's hard-wired to the [tornado fang]ing ceiling and it's beeping constantly and I already tried changing the battery and I've taken it apart and put it back together and tested it and turned it off and back on again and hit it half a dozen times and it continues to beep and beep and beep and beep and [tornado fang] that smoke detector AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH

Is there a way you can get your money back? Just the thought of $400-something dollars going down the drain over something that doesn't even involve the system is just depressing.

How old is your smoke detector? Is there something wrong with the wires the detector plugs in to?

It's only a few years. I don't know how to check the wires without the right tools. And when it comes to maintenance that involves electrical maintenance, I'm to leave it to the maintenance crew.

So, I put in a maintenance request.

Was it dirty when you took your smoke detector apart? I heard that using compressed air to blow out the dirt and dust might help.

I've dropped my PS3 and PS2 dualshock controllers multiple times over the years, yet they never [tornado fang]'d up. And Nintendo SURE AS HELL doesn't have this problem.

That absolutely cannot be the cause of that problem. Any damage to the controller will not affect the system in any way. Your PS4 might be having a problem outputting to your TV. Is it connected to it directly or through an HDMI hub? Cause I've had some hubs that had trouble keeping the signal on consistently.

Yeah, I think that was the issue.

First, I dissected the controller to determine if any pieces shifted around inside, then I pressed and held the tiny reset button in the back of the controller; still no dice.

Thankfully, I looked around on GameFAQs to see if anyone else had this problem and one person suggested to unplug the PS4, wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in. Sync the controller once the system is on, and it'll start working again.

That's exactly what I did, and it worked like a charm.
