"I should use that new technique we were working on, two weeks ago." Pema exclaimed as she blocked a tentacle.
"Are you certain? You haven't perfected it yet." Salem responded.
"Yeah, but I think now would be the best time to try it out again. You know, with all the tentacles and stuff, it's kinda sorta similar!" She pumped out her fist, rearing to go.
"You do have a point... alright, go nuts." He agreed.
She concentrated and focused her mana into the staff. However, Ultros' persistant assault proved more than a little difficult to find time to prepare the spell.
Pema quickly ducked behind a huge rock and continued to form her experimental spell. She murmered the words "constant stream of mana" over and over again under her breath.
Flame embers began to spark on top of the staff and steadily materialized into a firey whip. The make-shift whip faded and flickered a few times before she implemented more mana to stabilize the form.
She raised the staff above her head with great enthusiasm. "Pema Style: Flaming Whip! Look, Salem, I did it!"
"I'm proud of you, but you're not out of the woods quite yet. It's extremely difficult to maintain the whip formation." Salem cautioned.
Part of the flaming whip suddenly combusted and nearly burnt Pema's hand. She squeaked. "Eeep! That was close..."
"See what I mean? Keep your mana in check at all times. You need a steady, constant flow of mana to maintain the form. You're not used to doing that. Be careful, okay? I don't want to see you hurt." He explained.
Pema nodded and focused her attention on Ultros' tentacles while regulating her mana output. This just became another training session for her.
"Tentacles. Why did it have to be tentacles..." Pema said with a smirk and prepped her flaming whip, Indiana Jones style. "Let's see what this thing is made of. Hiyahh!" She lashed out the whip at some of the tentacles, successfully burning the skin on contact.
