I gotta say after 5 years I expected a lot more... seriously. I'll keep this short and sweet as to not echo the things that have already been said. This game could have benefited a lot from having a "public beta" test. Overall, it was an "ok" experience for me. 5 years and this is is the result... I guess i just don't get it?!

3 robot masters down! Gotta say I'm loving this so far! Thanks to everyone involved for making such a kick-ass game! I threw it on my HTPC and it looks really cool on the big screen! Looking forward to the soundtrack release as well!

Don't you mean, Ninja'd?...... Or is that Yoku'd, or Yoku Block'd in You Man's terms? But yea, it seems that Yoku Man pretty much Ninja'd you. XD

 ;)absolutely!

According the Phil's Facebook updates, everything seems to be moving right along with the game. I believe I read it's now at RC status? This is good news and I'm stoked to play this! A big thanks to all the people involved testing/bug fixing to make this happen.

Edit: While typing this post, Yoku Man has just chimed in with some great news!

I'm just going to be patient. It should be out and to the public soon enough. As long as Capcom doesn't try to make it an item and have me pay for it. But then again, I would do that - if it worked correctly on my PC. Not crazy about  having no charge shot available though - I've been charging all throughout the X series and it's like muscle memory these days. Almost killed my anticipation.

I'd pay for this game as well if Capcom were to brand it official. Got to agree with the above comment, not having the charge shot is slightly disappointing , but either way I'm stoked for this to be released!! Who knows, maybe the charge shot is a hidden feature to be unlocked in the game?? Would be cool.

Did you build that all by yourself or did you have help? :D

I did it all on my own. The cabinet itself is actually an old Mortal Kombat 2 cab that was not in working condition. The story I got upon buying the cab was that it had been destroyed during a lightning storm... basically all the circuit boards had been fried. Got it really cheap, and it was perfect for what I had planned to do with it. I stripped all the components out, including the CRT monitor/screen. Re-wired all the controls with USB interface, replaced the screen with a 22' HDTV for the display. The brain of the cab is a older Intel Core 2 Duo 3.4ghz CPU that I had got from a local business who were upgrading their on site computers. I spent about $150 in upgrades for that CPU, adding a more powerful GFX card, a 2TB HDD and a Blu-Ray disc drive, as I back more important files up on those just for the simple reason they have more durability then your standard DVD+R. I also use Hyperspin for my front-end. Most home built arcade cabs I've seen usually can be made for a lot less money then what I spent. Most people just use any old CPU that can run MAME. I wanted to emulate other systems, not just MAME. So far I have the following systems emulated on this cab:

Atari 5200, 7800, NES, SNES N64, Game Cube, Wii, Game Boy (ALL), Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, Sega Game Gear, Neo-Geo Pocket (Color), TurboGFX 16/PC Engine, PC Games, PSone, PS2, MAME.

There are a few more miscellaneous emualtors on there like NDS and PSP. I'm always adding to it but for the most part.. it's done.

The cabinet has changed dramatically since I first got it... it now sports a Multi-Cade marquee and has been stripped of all the MK 2 decals it original had. The skin on it now is one big cluster of classic and modern video game characters... including a lot from the Mega man series as it was always my favorite as a kid. That's pretty much it. You can PM me if you want to know more as to not clutter this topic.  ;)

Put together a "Games For Windows" Cover for this one as well. Credit goes to Blyka for his original cover art for the game. Also, I must say that I really enjoyed this game alot... perhaps we'll see Super Danny 3?  ;)

Grrr you have an arcade cabinet!?  8) I'm envious!
Thats an awesome box! Just as cool as the official NES one Phil did. If you have Facebook you should post that on Phil's Mega Man Unlimited page. That way he's garunteed to see it and give you the praise you deserve! ;)

Yeah, I've been working on that arcade cabinet for quite awhile, always adding new games to it. it's nice to be able to enjoy all the classic NES and Super NES games during my down time. I tried posting the cover I did on the Mega Man Unlimited Facebook page, but it would seem Phil's page doesn't allow photos to be posted on his wall?? I'm sure he'll see it at some point in time  ;) Really looking forward to this game as I said before. If I can be of any help getting the word out about this game, I'll be glad to... but it pretty much looks like you guys have that covered. Thanks again for the kind words on my cover. I may do some artwork of my own at some point and make alternate versions of it.

Just want to say I'm really looking forward to this game. Can't wait to throw it on my arcade cabinet down in the game room! I've used MegaPhil's NES style box art to make a custom "Games For Windows" cover. All artwork credit goes to MegaPhilX.

Had it up and running on Windows XP Pro just fine. Try updating your DirectX. Also... it could have to do with your graphics card. On XP I'm running a Nvidia 512. So, not sure exactly what the required specs are for this game, but it's working fine for me.

Now... more about the game now that I've had a chance to play it. It's huge! I like the "Super Metroid" vibe to it. The play control isn't quite spot on like the original NES titles, but it's reasonable. Overall, has decent story line, and some really cool power ups for Mega. Not the best fan game I've ever played... but not the worst. If had to rate it (As if my opinion matters) it would get an 8 out of 10.  ;)

What OS are you running? Works great on Windows 7. Not sure about XP... I may have to try it on my old XP system just to see...

From time to time I'll browse the net looking for new Mega Man fan-games to play. This one seems really cool. Although I only got to play it for about 20 minutes due to having to leave for work -AC But it seems to be one giant level... like the Metroid games. Have any of you checked this one out? It's a a game maker game and you can find it here:

While searching for the updated .IPS patch for Rockman 2: Gray Zone, I learned that the creator of that hack is starting a new project called Rockman Max. Just wanted to let everyone here know about it, and also if you haven't played Gray Zone yet, the .IPS can be found for that as well at WINED's site:

http://rg20.web.fc2.com/grayarea.html

Images of the hack and a video are posted on the site, so I didn't bother with posting any images here.

Arne was a buddy of mine, and I remember talking to him on how it was suppose to be a very loose and liberal interpenetration to begin with. That and it was planned around the time of X4 I believe, so not many details on Protoman may have been available.

He eventually got tired of the project and handed it off to some other guys, and they finished it. The "final" version is that.

Does he have any other Mega Man fan games? Or is he planning on doing a sequel of some kind? This game would be so much better with some heavy rock/metal Mega Man music... The Castlevania tune in the game just don't go well with Mega Man. I guess the Super Metroid music is ok... I love both the Castlevania and Metroid franchises, but when I hear Castlevania... I don't think of Mega Man and vice versa. I should take a look at the source files and see if I can change some of the music.

I totally agree... I've been working on my Proto Man game for almost 2 years. I started knowing nothing, and never realized what it takes to make a great game. Spending countless hours doing searches on the net collecting as much info on ROM hacking and programing as I could... then trying to shift through all that information and apply it. It's just hard work.

I've been following Kuja's project for almost two years now, and just from playing the demos he's released, I'm amazed! I really hope everyone involved with this hack can keep it together and bring it to life. As I've mentioned to Kuja before, I'd love to help in any way possible, but I'm very limited still as to what I can do or offer him.

Just so you know Kuja, I did download the editor you posted for your game. I'm using MegaFLE on my project as well, so if I can help you with anything... even the slightest, just let me know.

Ok, finally got it working. The problem was with my GFX card. It seems the card I have isn't supported by Windows 7. Therefore, Windows was listing it as a "Standard VGA Adapter". I had to manually install the old driver from Windows XP in order to get the card recognized by Windows 7. A lot of work just to play this game....

Now, to give some feedback on the game.... It being the only "X" fan-game I've played, I can't really say if it's the best or not, but overall... not bad. I like the multiple playable characters in the game, it adds replay value. Not sure where Proto Man fits in to the "X" storyline, although I'm just assuming the creator hadn't thought about blending the game into official story lines... as everyone knows, Proto Man had a faulty core, thus his life span probably wouldn't have allowed him to remain alive during the time of X and Zero. But overall, the story of the game seems interesting. Still seems to have bugs here and there, but overall not a bad fan game.

Yes, That's the version I have. I'm thinking it's something to do with my PC. I can play Megaman Paradise, and Megaman Rocks just fine... but no luck with this one yet.

I have Windows 7 and I just tried it a few days ago. It works for me. The colors got messed up however, when I tried any full screen mode. I don't recall using any sort of compatibility mode, but you could try that and see if it works.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure why it's not working for me. The game starts and the Capcom music plays... then I get a message saying the program has suddenly stopped working. If anyone knows of a solution, I'd be grateful.  :)

I know this is an old thread... hope I don't get in trouble for posting, but has anyone got this game to work with Windows 7? I recently upgraded, and many of my homebrew games that worked well with XP, crash in W7.
