X / Re: Maverick Hunter X, because I'm like 4 years behind you guys
« on: May 14, 2009, 05:55:48 PM »
I'm sure we were talking about it linking to the other games, not about forbidding new additions. It means it is not its own entity and therefore doesn't outright contradict anything but the game it is remaking.
Considering the intended scope of the remakes was up to the when Cain was still somewhat front and center, that's why I'm saying that. Linking to X8 has no effect on that, since he just dropped altogether way before then.

Honestly, to me there ain't no point arguing this. I'm just prone to agree to disagree and stick to what I said above. Making out whatever you want from this is fine by me, saying only one particular way of viewing something like this is "valid" I don't agree with.

But Capcom has already said it is not its own entity. Saying it links to X8, saying it is how it was always meant to be, saying writers were given orders to stay as close to the original as possible.
How does a link to X8 and staying close to the original as possible forbids them for trying something new at spots?

Really, there's no point in arguing it, all I am saying is that people can take it any way they'd like and I don't think any is less valid than the other. That's about it.

But that's all the more reason to say there's no contradiction. MHX has to lead into X2~4. Only when there's an assured MHX2~4 can they decide to flat out retcon parts of the sequels. MHX was always written to work with the games that can't be remade, such as X7, XCM and X8.
Or, could it be its own entity, depends how you look at it. In the end it's ultimately up to the player what to make out if themselves.

also, the cain labs bit is what im saying was, (if im right) only in the US manual.
The thing about Cain Labs is that I don't think that it implies Cain himself has to be alive for it to exist. But I think that the 'memo' talked about in the manual proper has word of Dr. Cain himself in it saying Repliforce was a liability or somesuch. Either way, in the japanese material I don't think Cain was ever directly linked to Repliforce.

also, you DO know he can get up from his special chair right?
Look up at the last statement in my post, the keywords are bolded.

Far as I remember they say the Adion was a new Ride Chaser devised by Dr. Cain in the japanese materials for X4. I could be wrong.

The US manuals have the "Cain Labs" bit about Repliforce as a whole, and I guess also saying Double was created by him (protip: he wasn't).

Either way whether Cain died or not is irrelevant. The fact he was in a chair that takes roughly half of the [tornado fang]ing room he is and his statement that he won't be around for much longer gives me the feeling that if they did follow up to MHX3 like Inafucking intended, I don't doubt they'd just rewrite the games without him, as opposed to WHOA! He got a whole fuckload better all of a sudden.

But it doesn't matter now, since we're not getting MHX2.

I recall.  But Rod does fall behind on the community events now and then, so I wasn't sure.
'sides what Zan's already said, I was mocking that notion in my post, not advocating it, man. :P From way back when, I always said "please, solid concrete undeniable proof of a copy body in X6" and what I got was "IT'S OBVIOUS!!!!".

Either good job addressing the whole transition deal. Lord knows I've done this more times I can count and it's lost its luster for years now.

Rockman Series / Re: MM Art Request thread.
« on: May 11, 2009, 03:35:40 AM »
I know that the request has already been technically fulfilled, but I've been meaning to unload these small scans of Ikehara's MM7 manga for the longest while now. As some of you know, the spectacular trainwreck known to mankind as "New Adventures of Mega Man" had it's "sister magazine" that was basically your average run of the mill "lol anime spoilers" magazine. I bought just two issues of it, both dealing with Mega Man. The first, contained the announcement of the comic; and the second, these bits of Ikehara's manga.

The story? Well, they said here that they bought the rights to the franchise and started doing work on their little catastrophe, but that then suddenly the licenser sent them the originals for the MM7 manga. In the end, they said it was a better idea to invest on NAdMM (Protip: it's not). So we could've gotten Ikehara's manga, but instead... well, you know. Oh yeah, they also had a great line in the article, telling the readers that if "their Mega" (the comic) didn't satisfy their "mangatic hunger", they could import from a manga store that had a partnership with the magazine the original ones for "good complimentary food". At the time itself I already thought "I'll lay odds this is actually BETTER food", but I digress.

Sorry for the crappy quality. Dunno why my scanner is being so crappy lately. It didn't have a problem when scanning NAdMM proper. I know some were repeated as well, but I just wanted to put all the images from the article up at that.

Pretty much.

But for the rest,

Japan would rather have more Rockman DASH then Rockman X
Well, I thought that was a given as it is now. For all I remember for newshounding back in the day MMX wasn't very hot there around CM/X8's time already.

Then again, I'd trade any X9 or whatever for a new Gargoyle's Quest. Or Strider.

Well, now that you guys brought EGM to the table...

There was this (apparently) spin-off called "EGM²" (yes, ²). In its November 1995 issue if I recall right (cover had Thanos and the main story was about Marvel Super Heroes) they had a walkthrough for a beta version of X3 - down to the boss names and weapons still being in Japanese and what have you.

The most obvious difference I could sight is that Bit and Byte's sprites are different from the final version. But I took a closer look at the article, and there are some other different sprites for some of the eight bosses, as well as some swapped backgrounds. Nothing nowhere as enticing as removed bosses, but a curiosity nonetheless. Here:

Catfish's and Buffalo's sprites are different from the final versions. If Sprites INC is any notice, Buffalo doesn't even have that dash pose in the final version.

Tiger's sprite also seems a little different, and his background and the sub-boss' were swapped in the final version.

And the most glaring differences, Bit and Byte:

X / Re: Sigma Virus

Was that ever stated? Far as I recall the humans had to seek refuge underground because of the colony impact that severely [tornado fang]'d up the environment, and the remnants of the virus made work hell for Reploids. Most I recall about it doing things to humans would be a poorly worded sentence in X5 (US: "The virus is affecting both humans and Reploids", JPN: "The virus has plunged both humans and Reploids into chaos", and no, not word-by-word quotes), and the outlandish X5 manga where Necrobat is speciffically working on making it work on humans (go figure).

I don't think there's a lot to talk about toys to warrant a thread just about them, but you guys make the calls.

Either way, Banpresto's Command Mission gashapons:

The line was just constantly delayed and delayed until it faded into obscurity. I remember reading some japanese fan sites ranting on it, but I can't recally any specifics. Some stuff I recovered via archive.org (my own notes though) said that the line was supposed to have 10 figures, even if the only confirmed ones were the five in the poster at the fair.

X / Re: (X5) Getting Gaea Armor's body part with Zero

You want utterly inhuman, unrealistic timing? In X6, try getting the capsule in Turtloid's stage with Zero. I can do it, but it took me weeks upon weeks of practice to be able to pull it off consistently, and it STILL needs a bit of luck trying to correctly lure the bat near the place.
After my first playthrough, I always went with that route to pick that Shadow Armor piece. Just not neccessarily with Zero. Fun for the whole family.

Zero / Re: A Zero remake..

To hell with Omega, I put Z3 on an altar because of FRIKKIN THROW BLADE!!!
Before someone gets me wrong, let me just put my quote in perspective:
The reason I see people putting Z3 in an altar most of the time

And that's what I saw from way back when, when Z3 filled the nonexistant plot-hole of X6's copy body (yeah, because X6 made it utterly obvious it was a "copy" body. Whatever), Mother Elf, Guardians, Elf Waaaaaarrghs, what's the matter, too DEEP for you?, etc.

I don't have a problem with people liking it the best of the Zero series (what, am I going to dictate what people think about the games now), but for the reasons above, sorry, that just doesn't cut it for me.

Yeah, she's Nana, back when she was a massproduced model without lucky sevens distracting you from her hips. By the way Vile is Bass and Dynamo is Proto Man (the visor was a dead giveaway).

BONUS! the picture that somewhat coined her fanon name (yeah, I threw that out for the lulz and it stuck with some):

Her "beta" hair was a bit messier. (yeah, that's what it looked like before the full DoS rolled around)

Zero / Re: A Zero remake..

Kids, remember the saying: there is nothing wrong with Mega Man - just you thinking there is something wrong with Mega Man.

Actually I just came up with it but [tornado fang] that.

Either way I felt Z4 was the most fun of the entire Zero series to me, gameplay-wise. The reason I see people putting Z3 in an altar most of the time, the Omega debacle, is way overrated in my opinion and I liked it better when it was part of Saber Marionette and not Mega Man. In Z4 I got to blow up a lot of freaky looking giant bots who didn't NEED to have oooooh, stoooooooory reeeelevannnnce (yawn) - and well, [tornado fang] me, hold tight:

This is exactly why people don't play MM for it's story.

I also liked the Z-Knuckle a good lot and I felt the soundtrack was really the best of all the four games.

Maybe this is old, since I was out of the loop for a while and all that [parasitic bomb], but I remember people finding in text dumps a dialogue for Dr. Light giving Zero this at-the-time unreachable capsule.

Some guy managed to just get to it, though. Here's the video:

Not the main poster, but the guy did credit him and all. The original video was in japanese and the sound was severely messed up.

Probably one of Inufaune's childhood heroes was Casshern.
I've heard from more than one source that the big blue dogs in Wood Man's stage are even CALLED Friender. Since I don't have these oh-so-nice japanese databooks and none of these sources supplied an undisputable source of this information although one of these is a guy who most of the times has his stuff set straight from these extra-gaming sources, but if that much proves true, I think that's nigh undisputable.

You wouldn't, since it's not used in the anime at all. And in the manga it just lasted two chapters until Seiya lost his Cloth but they could recover everything but the helmet.

Gee, wonder why!

Huh. I never noticed that before. :/
Well, for one I didn't know you kept up with Saint Seiya if that's the case. But either way this is a manga only Cloth that lasts for... 2 chapters before that helmet is almost retconned.

:\ I shouldn't have picked on X6.  That's like picking on the mentally disabled.  Next time I'll be more sensitive.
Whoa! Now that's a fine piece of argument. This is as good as it gets in this thread, I'm sure.

And if you don't work for 1UP, you most definitely need a spot there. That was in the league of the same strawman statements thrown there left and forth.

Oh, and this was written before "FORGIVENESS PLZ" was added to the above post.
