Gaming / Re: What makes and kills replay value for you?
« on: December 30, 2008, 08:29:34 AM »
Well my main "turn off" so to speak is having to play through a game over and over again just to get something. Or something to that effect.

The biggest one ever to me was when i was recently playing Sonic Advance 2 for GBA (i don't own it, just rom+emulator), and well after  I beat the game for my first time, I found out that in order to access the secret special level ...you gotta beat the game with every character, and get all 7 chaos emeralds for everyone ...fuuuuck that. :( I could never even get 1 emerald on that game, it's way too hard, i just can't do it.  Where you gotta get 300 rings in 2 minutes.
So i cheated by downloading a savestate with everything unlocked. :(

I hope i can bare doing some of those challenges i looked at for mm9 such as "beat the game 5 times in 24 hours" ...geeez. :(

I tried it out for the first time on Friday afternoon after getting my 360 for christmas.
Well first of all i had very very LOW expectations about this game cause I had been talking about it with one of my friends for over a month nonstop, and well i felt bad about it because of all the reviews i've read online, hearing Xplay's review on G4 (on TV), and so on that this game was really bad. Which made me feel bad too ..that I should avoid it and not get it.

I do not own this game yet, but I did decide to download the 1 level demo trial on friday morning/afternoon to give it a shot.

And i must say that it did not actually feel too bad really! This is my very first time ever trying a 3-D sonic game. Since i've only been playing genesis, game gear, and GBA sonics, but never any other type.

Well the camera did get a little annoying sometimes like when i would stop and turn around to go collect some rings, or look at my surrounding, and then when i turn back to continue playing, the camera continues to point in the wrong direction so i can't see where the heck im going. But that's really the only complaint I had.

I did get 2 game overs before I finally beat the level. Cause i soemtimes would constantly fall off in bottomless cliff pits from not being able to jump off enemies to get across easily.

So i think my confidence went back up a little about this game. :) It didn't seem "horrible" based on everything i've heard about it so far. I was hoping to try a boss battle against eggman or something, but then when the level finished "thank you for playing the demo" :(

Is this level in the real game too ??
Well i still do not know if i will actually want to buy this game yet.

Oh okay i think i get it. So it would have been better if say, the big fire dragon in Magma, would have come "after" getting to the half way point? Well nevermind. I don't got any prob with it. :)
I've never tried splash and plug once yet. I think i'm going to save splash to be the very last stage i try for the very first time, only after i beat 7 of the 8 levels. Because of it being the first girl boss in the classic series.

the only thing that strikes me as a bit unfair is some annoying checkpoints in stages, like always right after mid-bosses, or before the long tedious bubble segment.

huh?? What do you mean by that. It's bad to get to the half way point in any stage ??

I've beaten 3 bosses so far by the way. :) Trying to go slow and take my time.
And i tried out the Time Attack mode for first time just once. Only galaxy man (1 level i beat) ..i never opened the pause menu a single time cause i dont wanna see what all the weapons look like that i haven't got yet.

And i finished with 3 minutes 54 seconds, and saw my name in 1809 th [/color]place. :)

Yes, i love final fantasy games, and that's where I got my user name from. I made it was back when i was in 7th or 8th grade. I liked kuja, and the "killer" part was just something random i felt like wanting to go for and i stuck with it ever since.

Aww darn okay that's a bummer.

Also guess those rumors were true about it having songs from MM2 specifically. Like that stupid annoying 3-second password/intro screen thing that's so damn annoying if you listened to it nonstop for a couple minutes. I always mute the TV when i hear that, but the new mm9 songs are cool though, likeing them

Leaderboards are exclusive for each system. I think the 360 even shows a bigger list.

So do you mean, wii's boards are for wii only, 360 is for 360 only? ..so i'll never see people's stuff from wii or ps3? .. ONLY 360 ??

Just finished downloading about an hour ago or so, and tried it out. :) I didn't read the whole beginning opening intro completely, cause was looking more at the cutscenes and listening to music rather than focusing on the conversation between wily and light, but i'll have to read it again. :)

I've only tried out 3 stages so far by closing my eyes and picking something random. Jewel, Concrete, and Galaxy a few minutes ago. And i'm defintely liking it. I'm not actually playing to the best of my ability yet, so i've gotten probably 6 game overs already hehe. :P But some of these new enemies are pretty awesome. I died on the big blue elephant once, and then i was surprised when i beat the first one, another but the balls were jumping up and down, crazy stuff.

And what was with the mid-boss battle in jewel man with the falling rocks? It seriously looked like the head of gutsman on one of them, was it him ? :P That's as far as i got on jewel so far.

And galaxy was pretty cool too, mainly those things that would attach to megaman's head and drag you across the screen super fast trying to run you into the spike pits, i did actually end up falling in one once. But it reminds me of the X games where there were some types of enemies just like that, latching on to you.

-----------------------------------------------------------
I do have 1 complaint only right now. :( I do not know if it's just my TV or the 360 ..but i can barly even hear the sound effects over the music during gameplay. I could not find any type of volume options anywhere ...is there seriously no volume/sound effect options anywhere that im not aware of? ..would like sound turned up, but volume down a bit. :(
-----------------------------------------------------------
Vixy - I looked at the top 10 clear leaderboards, and some of the other things, and could not find "vixy" on any lists. :( I never clicked the thread saying "vixy's attempt to get top 10 clear ranking in rockman 9" cause i do "not" want any spoilers. But i thought about you, cause i thought i would find you on one of the lists, but no. :(

Or are these leaderboards only specific to 360 players, and not wii/ps3 ??

I'm sorry for the very long post.

Oh man that was really awesome seriously. You just made my day! And then when i watched your "sewer level demo" video ...holy cow that's one giant ass level :O

I don't stand a chance in hell to people like you in ever being able to design something as good as that for my mm3 NES hack. I'm so jealous

« on: December 24, 2008, 06:46:50 AM »
I just bought my christmas present tonight, my 1 and only thing I wanted to get. Finally got myself a xbox 360 a few hours ago at walmart. The 60 GB version.

I did not buy any games for it, or anything else, except only 1 1600 microsoft point card thing.

So that I can finally get megaman 9 and play it for the first time. I put it under the tree in the living room cause I do not want to open the 360 box until christmas morning, but that's when my "true" christmas present will come when i finally get mm9. :) I'm still seriously trying really hard to stay away from any megaman 9 screenshots, spoilers, videos anything until i get to play through it once.

It's really hard when i look at youtube videos (every day) ..i usually always look at the "related video section" first..and quickly scroll down the list to see if anything dare says "megaman 9" rockman 9, ロックマン9, or anything about it before the little preview pictures load...and if so i'll go click the hide option hide all the results immediately so i do not spoil myself. :( Almost anything i ever freaking look at, there's a mm9 related result :( So i'm trying so hard to keep my eyes off everything still at this momment

Oh yea, I wanted to try going for as close of a good look to the X4-X6 games as possible in terms of the design, within NES limits of course. About showing how much life is remaining for weapons. But mine doesn't base off how many particular times you can use a weapon. It just only counts how much HP is left in the weapon bar from 00-28.

It did not go down, and i never took damage from enemy hits because I had certain RAM addresses in a frozen state which i do all the time for testing purposes.

Probably won't matter to anyone, and that's fine, but i just felt like uploading this little test video i made about a half year ago on my mm3 hack when i was going to try to code 8-way scrolling. I did not go through with it in the end, turned out to be too difficult. (NOT the hack, just this free-roaming scrolling concept itself)

Yea that's it! :) I was actualy searching youtube a couple hours ago right after i posted in here and found that commericial, it's exactly what I remember from so many years ago and it was totally awesome. :) I read the comments under the video and alot of people don't like it that much it seems or that it's lame...i personally disagree, i think it was damn cool. :P

The only commericial I could ever remember in my life seeing that was actually "about" megaman was the megaman 6 one. Just barly remember a faint image of my head in it about it showing gameplay from some of the levels like the area in tomahawk man with the sun in the background. And i think that was the one where it showed a bunch of young kids being interviewed what they think about it, and alot of boys were like "i love megaman!" ...and other people pretending to shoot like him. :P THAT was good. :)

I've known about alpha along time ago :) I've talked to the owner of the small apple website (japanese) before on his message boards while he was halfway through producing the rom hack. It was like probably almost 2 years ago. Alpha is pretty good. :)

ZX / Re: What are your best scores on those mini-games?
« on: December 11, 2008, 03:54:32 PM »
You're not missing much.

Um like 50480 on EC, 22.28 on DT, nothing too interesting on the other two. I'm probably never going to do better because these games aren't very fun at all.

50,000+ on that energy converter one? Are you serious? Oh my god. :O I can't even keep up with them falling down so frequently fast especially when it first starts out with like 3/4th's of the screen already filled up. :(

Does it ever end??
i mean like about how it changes the enemy on the right side of the screen, and "energy remaining" thing. And does it actually get harder/faster eventually the more enemies you defeat, or the higher your score gets or something? (like level 10+ in tetris for example)

ZX / What are your best scores on those mini-games?
« on: December 11, 2008, 01:44:48 AM »
For the first ZX game. I dont know what kinds of games exist in the ZXA since i dont own that game or ever have played it before.

I know i once saw a thread just like this for the Zero games. But it doesn't exist anymore ever since the board got deleted/revived whatever.

I was just curious.
I personally can never get more than 50-100 points on that tertris-like game where colored diamonds fall from the top of screen, that game's so freaking ridiculous. :(

And that super crusher F game or whatever it's called where your playing as Model Fx i think, and gotta hit a ball to kill all enemies on the screen, i think on the easy version i got like around 110 points, but there were metools on the screen and they were very difficult to hit cause if the ball hits them while they're hiding under the shell, it just goes right through them like nothing happened (obviously, i know). That's about as far as I got ...
Do you guys know how farther that game goes? :)

I could not find any youtube videos of people playing those games trying to get high scores.

Rockman Series / Re: Cheapest Boss Attack(s) in the series?
« on: November 30, 2008, 04:51:09 PM »
I also slightly remember that if you did not have the right requirements, High Max would be a pain in the ass to take down. I mean, his attacks were not that cheap, but he took like 3 hours to take down if you entered his lair unprepared.

Oh man i remember the very first time i played x6 and got to him in the final levels for first time ever. Couldn't ever figure out how to damage him and did die so many times and using the sub tanks with no luck ever..

Until i found out the best way to ever hit him ..which was very time consuming was to have the auto-charge function turned on to get him vulnerable (which does 0 damage anyway) ..pause the screen and switch the hammer throwing weapon ..toss a hammer and it'll actually do like 1 hp damage literally ...unpause ...and keep jumping around the room trying to stay alive while the auto-charge takes care of things...when i get the chance... repeat over and over opening the menu, pick the hammer thing ..hit him once, switch back via menu until dead.

it was NOT a good idea to just switch weapons via R and L buttons cause that didn't help me at all ...so that took a long time

Oh that's cool. :) Well alright then. I personally haven't even bothered to play it at all yet (only just like when the very first or 2nd release was on the site) because i wanna wait until there's much more playablility to it. 20 areas is a fairly decent amount but im certain there will be alot more than that over the next few weeks. So im waiting until then. :)

Rock5 actually discussed concerning having the doc robots fightable or not this morning in reply to someone that asked about it on 2ch.

But it does not seem like he will be able to based on what he said, but the stages probably will be used.
