X / Mad Nautilus?
« on: September 16, 2011, 03:35:15 PM »
Here's something that I've been wondering for a while.  I don't know how many of you visit the Megaman Home Page, but there's a section in the Command Mission walkthrough that has always made me wonder:

Quote
Boss: Mad Nautilus

(Parents: You may wish to fight this boss for your kids, unless they are so young that they won’t understand the references. I’m not going to say anything else beyond that.)

Now, I can be naive at times, but is there some hidden inappropriate reference in the Mad Nautilus boss fight?  I know there's the whole "Mad Ecstasy" name for one of his attacks, but is there something else that flew over my head?

This is literally one of Zero's win quotes in UMvC3:

If X were here, he would have tried to talk things out first. Unfortunately for you, X isn't here.

Capcom's trolling pretty hard.  -u-'

And so far, every single classic/modern part seems to get that part right. Sonic was plagued by two things: Bad, slippery controls, and awful level design, mostly based on too many bottomless pits and sections which seemed like they had been ripped out of a romhack. Colors, although not having the most stellar level design there is, keeps it in the sane territory, making transitions into areas easy and fun, and bottomless pits to a minimum. You're more likely to die from 2D level parts when enemies start shooting out bullets like a bullet hell game (which is hella fun I might add).

Ah, that's good to know.  Bottomless pits are the sole factor that turned me off about newer Sonic games.  Sometimes I'd want to go through a quick stage in Heroes/Shadow just for fun, and I'd make one mistake and be sent to my death via bottomless pit.  Not necessarily bad mistakes, even; anything from a loop glitching out to an unexpected enemy collision would cause me to go flying off the stage.  I'm glad they finally wised up on that issue.

Though, the romhack comment makes me laugh because Sonic romhacks are generally pretty good.  Need I remind you of the Sonic 1 GBA hack that far exceeded the actual game.  Sonic Megamix was pretty legit too.

Not only that, failure from dodge sections simply bring you to a lower section of the level, something which is true to original Sonic games.

You mean they fixed the problem that's been plaguing Sonic games for years?  Wow, I really do need to pick up Colors, then, as I haven't played a Sonic game since ShTH (played '06 at a friend's house and hated it).  If Sega really learned from their mistakes, Generations could potentially be one of the best Sonic games to date.  Heck, if the Classic sections get that part right, Generations will put Sonic back on the map for both fans of the new and old games alike!

Some talk about that was going on @SRK too.  It seems to be the case, and furthermore his L3 immediately sets his Devil Trigger timer to "0".  So it seems that unlike Dante, he actually has to activate his first to do his L3.  Seems fair enough, as he has 3 different level 1's as is and they're all pretty good.

Oh Capcom, you're so hilarious!  Full JP Boxart shot (and Deadpool would be the only other guy doing it). XD

Yeah, interestingly enough, Jam was the exact character Iron Fist was compared to in that leak that I posted above.  Granted, some parts of said leak are a bit off, but other parts are more or less dead-on.

I have to say, though, I like how UMvC3 is making its characters a lot more distinct than those of Marvel 2.  While there will probably be a little imbalance (as all fighters have to some degree or another), a large portion of the cast looks like it'll be usable in competitive play without there being "a better version" of them somewhere higher on the tier list.  Everyone seems to be unique in one way or another.

Vergil and Iron Fist trailers!

Iron Fist looks pretty awesome!  Seems like an interesting hybrid of Polimar and Fei Long.  And I'm getting a slight Karas vibe from Vergil.

Though I'm still confused by Sean's basketball being in the Rolento teaser.

The "Parry the Basketball" stage takes place in Metro City, which is where Rolento resides.  Long story short, it was a very skillfully placed Red Herring.

Capcom of America is actually pretty decent with connecting with fans at conventions and such. Lord knows how many pictures & conversations I've had with Seth Killian. The problem is that no matter how CoA tries to connect with their fans, there's little they can do if the higher ups say "[tornado fang] it" and go all cost effective.
My point is that Capcom, aside from the cool people working there, has turned into a company who prioritizes the masses instead of the fans.

One thing that really annoys me is when people start attacking CoA for MM-related stuff (you see this all the time on Unity).  The Capcom staff are actually really friendly people, but they can't change what goes on with the higher-ups in Japan.  They're pretty much spokesmen/women that say what the higher-ups tell them to.  It's kind of a shame though, I wish the Capcom heads would look a little more at the consumer side of things, but that's all JP related.

I know Toriyama's involved directly with this one, along with Ooishi Naho, the other person he left DBZ to, which is one reason why I think it may be canon.  It seems to be a prologue of sorts, explaining the origins of the Cold family's history with the Saiyans and all.
The last part isn't translated yet, but Bardock does go SSJ and defeats Chilled.  Chilled survives the encounter, which is probably the origin of the "Legendary Super Saiyan" rumor.
Well, this caught me off guard completely.  Not sure if it's canon or not (it's possible), but it seems pretty interesting so far.

Hmm, these new Tron Bonne colors look interesting:

Tiesel color
Bon color
Pink color

The Bon one is my personal favorite, not just because Bon's my favorite Bonne, but that Sky Blue jacket is pretty stylish!  You can also scroll around and look at the others too.  Steak-inspired Nemesis...yeah...

Oh I can guarantee MMX will be a DLC character. Capcom won't shut up about him, and he'd be a huge seller. Way bigger than Jill and Shuma combined.

I agree 100%.  I've got this suspicion that the only reason Capcom's making really dumb excuses is because they're planning X as DLC on the down-low.  Nobody makes excuses that dumb unless they're trying to hide something.

Leaks that are more than likely true. The bit about Wright playing like MSHvSF's Norimaro is something that I can see happening.  And I kinda figured that Iron Fist's chi manipulation would be integrated into the gameplay; looks pretty interesting.  Too bad about Megaman X, though.  I'm still hoping for him as DLC, though the fact that DLC depends on UMvC3's sales worries me a bit...

What's sad is that his theme song won't be this awesome. XD At any rate, the part @0:52 where he snaps Akuma out while yelling "get out of there" is just frigging hilarious!

New music is up.  I don't know how, but they actually managed to mess up Jazzy NYC.  :| Sean/Oro, Hugo, and Elena's themes actually sound pretty sweet, though, the former's a vast improvement IMO.

That said, there was also a lot of junk in there. I only really bother with Energy Saver, Energy Balancer and Arrow Shot.

If you bought Step Booster...yeah.

Yeah, and there were only certain essentials that you really needed before you could spend the rest on whatever you wanted.  H. Speed Charge, Arrow, (and Laser if you're into that), Energy Balancer, Energy Saver, and Super Recover were mainstays.

I found 8's weapons to be pretty useful.

Even the Mega Ball could be used to high jump before you get Tornado Hold. (or as the alternative when you dont want to waste the ammo on TH, like in Astro Man's maze)

Astro Crush was the only one I found to have limited use due to it's low ammo count, but its a good screen clearer.

I think MM8's arsenal is really underrated.  As you said, Mega Ball gives you a really large number of vertical jumps, actually getting you places better than the Tornado Hold can if you use it correctly.  Flash Bomb's a X4-6 plasma shot that you can have 2 of on screen at a time IIRC.  Ice Wave wrecks anything on the ground/wall, Water Balloon has strength in numbers, and the sheer invincibility frames that you get from Astro Crush are more than enough to get you through some parts of the sled section in Wily Stage 1.

In the end, the only thing holding most of the weapons back in MM8 is the existence of the Arrow Shot.  It's THAT broken!

I still say that the best way to get the most out of special weapons is to allow the player to use their buster with a special weapon equipped. (Like with MM8/X4-onwards).  You're still allowed to experiment without having to give up your primary source of damage.

Zero / MMZ reference in Kids Next Door
« on: August 08, 2011, 11:40:31 PM »
I know this is pretty old, bit it's kinda obscure and you don't see it mentioned much, if at all.  If anyone remembers the cartoon Kids Next Door, there was a special movie entitled Operation Z.E.R.O that came out.  One group that was introduced was Sector Z, whose leader looked, well...like this:

And a shot of the entire team:

Yeah, that's not a coincidence.
