Man, they really went all out for Cap's colors. Don't really care for the space-suit variant myself, but all of the others are great!

Huh, I played Drift 2 in Sonic Gems and actually loved it.  Maybe I'm just weird like that. XD

Above all else we'll have to wait until the game drops to see exactly how gems are handled. If all gems are available on the disk (with DLC being a shortcut for unlocking them), then we'll be fine.  On the other hand, if certain gems are DLC exclusive then we have a major problem.  I remember it being stated that gems couldn't be turned off, so it really brings the game's tournament viability into question.

This could be problematic

I have no problem with gems themselves, but I can easily see how the DLC gems can be a nightmare for people who want to run tournaments.

o~O That insists that they cared for Megaman in the first place.

Didn't you hear? Neglecting and mocking the Megaman franchise is the new black these days! At least for Crapcom.  B(

*sigh* Here we go again...

Seriously, the only reason you view Capcom as 'mocking' the franchise is because you're viewing the whole situation emotionally.  Sure, MML3 got canceled and he's not a current member of the roster, but Megaman is certainly not dead.  I mean, Street Fighter went nearly 10 years w/o games at all, and look where they are now.

I've been saying that some form of MM would be DLC since the UMvC3 roster was leaked. The fact that Capcom still won't shut up about him kind of alludes to this, and then we get a poster with Megaman saying that he's still "on the run"? Yeah, he's definitely coming; Capcom throws more smoke than the exhaust pipe of a semi-truck.

Show of hands, who else here thinks that the Metro City Days of Future Past poster is clever as [tornado fang]? XD

*raises hand*

Yeah, that's seriously a delicious bit of fan-service there.  I'm also convinced that Capcom's totally hinting at something with the Megaman bit.

Also, Nova seriously looks fearsome as all get out.  An overhead, a fast OTG that hits from nearly full-screen, and really nice movement options make for one dangerous dude.

Shadow the Hedgehog is actually pretty fun if you do straight neutral missions.  Kill off the bad guys and zoom through the levels with Chaos Control.  Of course, you obviously have to do everything to get the 'real' ending, which is dumb.  To this day I hate those Artificial Chaos missions with a fiery passion.  X(

Wow.  After watching that footage, I definitely believe that Sonic Team's made THE Sonic game that everyone's been waiting for.  I took note of the Classic stage design, and it's great that even though the player fell off the main path, he wasn't careened into a bottomless pit like in some of the more recent titles.  They've finally got the "forgiving challenges" part down pat, and everything in general looks so well designed.  Whatever they're doing now, they need to keep doing it.  This looks like one more reason for me to save up for a PS3.  :)

A "spot of blue"?  You don't think...

I suppose that is a really awkward possibility for an alt costume.  Seems like it'd be so much bigger than Zero, though.

For those curious, yes, I am still working on getting the last part done.  I hope to have it finished within the next couple of days; losing out to Sigma's dumb debris attack is soul-crushing after trekking it through to him without prior damage.  X(

Posted on: July 15, 2011, 00:28:03
Well, I finished it, though not in the way I would have liked.  I ended up having to split it between the mavericks and Sigma due to a certain move (more in the excerpt from teh video description below):

[spoiler]NOTICE:

As a note, I did in fact do the bosses and Sigma separately this time around. This wasn't my initial plan, but due to the luck needed to effectively get through Sigma's rock barrage w/o damage (more on that below), starting all over from the 8 bosses would be near impossible and would have taken far longer than this already has.

Stage Notes:

Anywho, onto the actual stage. The 8 bosses aren't any harder than they normally are, but doing them in succession takes a toll on your concentration, especially if you're trying to perfect Sigma in the same run. I caught myself making dumb mistakes on several occasions, and Storm Owl accounted for a lot of lost runs on his own.

As for Sigma, reaper's still as much of a joke as he was before, though it's slightly risky to attempt to hit him before the scythe comes out. He does attack with orbs, though if you stand right under him they don't hit you. Odd.

His 2nd form's not much harder, provided you let the scythe hit the wall and not the floor. I try to get stylish by jumping over his head, which makes the scythe hit the wall behind him. The timing for this one's extremely tight, and a mistake could have consequences ranging from being whacked in the head by a scythe, to it hitting the floor and you having to get through his harder pattern.

Now the final form is the beast here, and the reason I had to do the bosses and Sigma separately. I'm not talking about Big Gun Sigma, and I'm not talking about the heads. It's that Ugly Head that makes this so bothersome on its own. First off, despite all of the rumors floating around, I can guarantee that there is NO way to coerce him into performing the wind attack. Standing in the bottom-right corner won't do it, hovering in the top right corner won't do it, and putting X's right foot on the floor and left foot on the wire won't do it (I'm not making that last one up, either). Unless you get really lucky, you WILL see this attack and some point, and you've gotta be as ready as possible when it comes.

I will point out that though this attack is dodge-able without armor, it's not a 100% thing. Having a charge shot ready is key, and you've got to carve a path that you can get through until the sucking stops. On a good day, you can get through with a charge shot and a dash, and on a bad day one of the rocks will appear from under the screen before you can react; if this happens, you're getting hit. No exceptions. Special weapons don't make this any easier, either. The best candidate would be the Frost Tower, but it has it's own issues. First off, it's not completely impenetrable. The hitbox on the larger rocks is big enough to hit you clean through the ice, and the fact that you're being pulled to the left doesn't help matters either. Furthermore, you just destroyed the blue head, so have fun trying to jump up to the red head without touching the spikes or being pulled back before a piece of debris hits you!

That said, I'm willing to call this incarnation of Sigma the hardest in the series to do without taking damage, or hardest period, in some cases. X5's purple block attack has nothing on X4's rocks, and I don't think any other attack requires so much sheer luck to get out of unscathed. I realize that the difficulty of this fight goes down with the plasma shot and weaknesses (Ground hunter makes this so much easier), but at a base level this fight's a pain due to one move, which says lot, really.

Well, wasn't sure if I wanted to or not, but I'm gonna go through it as Zero now.  So the first segment is up now!  Same conditions as before, more or less:

- No damage
- No sub/heart tanks
- No boss weaknesses; special techniques are okay otherwise, and Reaper Sigma is an obvious exception.
- This run uses Hypershell's custom MMX4 PC hack, which changes Zero's voice actor to that of Lucas Gilbertson. (Thanks!)
- Custom BGM is added to the game by replacing the source files of the game. This allows custom music while still keeping the game's sounds intact.
- Black Zero FTW!

Intro Stage

Some songs will be changed around and some will remain the same.

I swear that if what they're hinting is an X alt for Zero then I'll...I...who am I kidding, I'll buy it anyways. I'll be angry while doing it though!

Anyways, best case scenario he actually means MMZ Zero alt with a blue color confirming multiple colors per alt. Worst case scenario X is literally Zero now.

And that's exactly what I've been wondering for the last couple of days.  As opposed to X and Zero being separate, X would be an alternate costume.  I suppose it is possible that they want to use Classic/Exe, so that they get reps from separate franchises.  If that happens I'll understand why, but they'll no doubt make some people salty with that decision.  Of course, the "X isn't here" win-quote would look extremely odd if you're playing as an X skinned Zero.

I think at this point all we can do is wait.  Capcom's throwing smoke bombs like there's no tomorrow, so we'll have to see how things play out.

Agreed, you're reading too much into that win quote.  Consider the fact that they swapped X's color for the armor set, for instance.  Sure Capcom's trolling, but there's a purpose behind it.  X (or at least some version of Megaman) is coming at some point in time.

Except theve constantly denied X being in the game. various times, Or any other megaman. X has topped the polls what, twice or so? And still nothing. I dont think they would go back on their word now. X costume Zero was probably removed in favor of First armor Zero.

Keep in mind that there's never been a "real" disconfirmation.  Every time they say 'no', there's always a flimsy excuse behind it that holds no water.  As for the polls, they don't guarantee any character to get into the game.  It's just fan opinion, nothing more, nothing less.  That said, Capcom's totally trolling us, and I personally find it rather hilarious.  X (or another character) has a very high chance of being a DLC character.  Patience, my friend.

New Zero Costumes

Yeah, part of me wants to like the MMX armor alt, but that blue hair has just got to go.  I'm still surprised that neither Black Zero or Nightmare got in at all.  You'd think they'd at least use a costume from the character's source material, but eh.  Purple/Vile Zero is pretty stylish, though.

and tons of cheap moves like dropping out of floating tracks onto a lower level, being incredibly difficult to do but really satisfying to pull off.

You just gave me a strong urge to play Crash Team Racing.  Man, the stuff you could do in that game was ridiculous.

Agreed on the long tracks bit.  I absolutely love MK64's Rainbow road, as it's a HUGE stage and has plenty of those nice straightaways you can cruise through.  Toad's Turnpike needs to return, too.  That stage is pretty wild in mirror mode.

Finally, Super Circuit is underrated as all [tornado fang].

Seriously, it's the best Mario Kart that no one talks about!  Remote mine red shells, huge and varied track selection (Snow Land FTW), and  a solid roster make SC a very nice title.  My only gripe is that I don't care for the coin system all too much (and even then I think you could turn it off).  Also, on the down low SC's Rainbow Road is pretty awesome.  Sure, it's not the magical experience of 64's, but can you really hate a track where the edges are all jumper pads?

Oh, and Fire Flower was a weapon before...sort of.  Mario/Luigi's Double Dash special attack was this, and I loved it.  Pretty much what you get if you could chuck 5 green shells simultaneously.  Wasn't nearly as useful/broken as the Peach/Daisy heart shield, but it was still pretty handy.

Huh, so KSSU broke the "angry American Kirby" cycle, and this game brings it back again? XD  At any rate, this game looks amazing, and that Ultra Flame move looks like it was ripped right from a Darkstalkers game (I forget whose move that was).  Water Kirby finally being playable after all these years is a huge plus, too.
