Rockman Series / Re: Megaman Doujin Game

Well, it looked promising, although the button arrangement is awful and I can't figure out how to change it (if it's even possible).

A confession, by Nesim (Warning: 5.6MB pic).

6.87 MB, actually.

I don't know what program that file was saved with, but the reason it's so huge is because the compression sucks. Resave it with GIMP, put it through PNGout and presto! 1.86 MB. 27% of the filesize with the same image quality.

I always preferred Velma, but then again I have a thing for nerdy girls with thick-rimmed glasses and I can't stand overly effeminate women who constantly obsess over the way they look. And Daphne was so annoying in "A Pup Named Scoody-Doo" with that crazy butler of hers.

Rockman Series / Re: How has Rockman performed in Japan?
« on: July 26, 2009, 07:44:55 PM »
ZX sold better than ZXA..

According to VG Chartz:

ZX, JP: 99, 523
ZX, US: 125, 943
ZXA, JP: 93,184
ZXA, US: 205,099

So, in Japan, yes, ZX did marginally better than ZXA. Over here, ZXA did better by a huge margin. Hell, ZXA sold more than twice as many copies in the US as it did in Japan.

In the greater scheme of things, this is unheard of. Rockman games perpetually sell better in Japan. Which underscores the problem here: the "failure" of the ZX series is only because Capcom doesn't consider overseas sales in the picture. Japan is hooked on the gimmicky card-tradey stuff. Meanwhile, the rest of the world still prefers the classic platformer games, by and large. But it has to pass Japan's approval first, so we don't get it. No Japanese company is going to favor what the NA/PAL people want over what their own people want. First to your own brethren.

I FINALLY found some of Fanewgie's Megagirl pics. Sadly, the Wayback Machine kept giving me the finger, then Firefox wouldn't let me type properly.

I happen to have what I think is the entire collection of those sitting on my hard drive. Here's the ones you didn't already post:

Off The Wall / Re: Much Ado About Internet Explorer 8
« on: March 21, 2009, 12:00:20 AM »
Chrome still leads in the UI organization department -- having the tabs at the top of everything else makes much more sense than having them at content level, and seeing everything over them (address bar, etc.) magically change as you switch from tab to tab. IE loses here, as well as Fx.

I dunno, having the tabs at content level never struck me as odd, it would seem strange to me if they weren't.
I guess it's just a matter of what you're used to.

Quote
Tab processes are isolated from each other, akin to Chrome. This is a step in the right direction; if one tab crashes, it won't take the entire window down with it. Fx will have to rework its development model to adapt to this, because when one of its tabs crashes, since the software is written as a single-process entity, the entire application goes down (all windows of it). One plus point for MS over Fx and Opera.

Funny you should say that, since that's actually one of the biggest things I don't like about Chrome. Having multiple processes running is redundant and chews up resources like crazy. Yeah, it means tabs can crash individually, but that's a pretty long run for a short slide in my book.
Also, Chrome monitors your internet browsing, Orwell style. Do not want.
Not to mention that it doesn't support third part extensions... I like my pimped-out Firefox.

As for IE... yeah. It's IE. 'Nuff said.

Okay, now let's count how many people set this as desktop wallpaper

One.

A very beautiful piece by Makotron.

A great piece of work, but with a huge ugly blemish on it. Goddamn Deviantart and their watermarks.

the funny things that turn up when i go through this whole thread. this is amazing.

you see the long blonde hair and green shirt on the far right? that's me. i [parasitic bomb] you not. the guy who's covering me is one of my friends.

for those who didn't know, this picture was taken outside the Gamestop in NYC where Inafune was. looks like me and my friends are walking away from the line, though. we must've already met Inafking and got our stuff autographed.

Not really all that surprising. A lot of us were there, I'm sure. I'm not in that picture there but I am in this one that was posted on Kotaku the day after:

See that red blob in between those two dudes there? That's my shirt.

Hey, it counts. :P

I haven't been to this site (guess the artist's name is Kusano Natumi) since the "Girls of EXE" thread days.

You didn't post the best one:

I laughed my ass off when I saw that. Priceless.

Reloading the page so I could catch all 3 was worth it.

No need to reload the page.

Thing about Adblock Plus: it allows you to bring up a list of all blockable items on the page... with their URLs.

So when we see this:

it shouldn't take much brains to figure out that the other two are:

http://www.rockmanpm.com/p/lucasintro/lucas3.mp3

And yes, they are awesome.

Original / Re: Hot or Cold Music
« on: January 01, 2009, 04:27:31 AM »
The only proper way to do this is game by game:

MM1: Too close to call between Iceman and Fireman.
MM2: Heatman's theme is one of the lesser tracks of the game. So whether you consider Bubblean or Freezeman (or even Airman) to play the "cold" role, cold wins.
MM3: Geminiman > Shadowman. So cold wins.
MM4: Too close to call between Dustman and Cossack Stages 1-2
MM5: Waveman > Chargeman. Cold is up 3-0 now.
MM6: Blizzardman > Flameman. 4-0 cold.
MM7: No clear winner between Turboman and Freezeman.
MM8: Swordman > Frostman. Hey, hot's on the board!
MM&B: No clear winner between Coldman and Burnerman
MM9: Magma Burning > Splash Blue. Cold's lead is cut to 4-2.

Classic score: 4-2 cold.

X1: Flame Mammoth > Chill Penguin. Hot.
X2: Flame Stag > Bubble Crab. Hot.
X3: Tough to call since Vile's stage is really the only thing here that can represent "hot".. but it's better than Blizzard Buffalo's theme, so hot it is.
X4: Tempting to give to Frost Walrus since he has two themes, but Magma Dragoon's gonna eek this one out.
X5: Has to go to Burn Dinorex since Tidal Whale must be disqualified for reusing music from an earlier game. >_>
X6: No brainer here. Blaze Heatnix is the obvious winner.
X7: Too close to call between Naval Battle and Burning Water.
X8: Avalanche Yeti > Burn Rooster. Shutout averted!

X score: 6-1 hot.

Z1: Can't make a ruling on Scorching Desert vs Infiltration.
Z2, part 1: Gravity > Ice Brain. Hot.
Z2, part 2: Passionate > Cool Water. Hot.
Z3: Trail on Powdery Snow > Volcano. Cold.
Z4: Max Heat > Sleeping Beast. Hot.

Zero score: 3-1 hot.

ZX, part 1: Wonder Panorama > Ogre Claw. Cold.
ZX, part 2: Ultramarine Meditiation > High-Press Energy. Cold.
ZXA, part 1: Target Chaser > Drifting Floe. Hot.
ZXA, part 2: Overloaded > Flashover. Cold.
ZXA, part 3: Brimstone > Organic Line. Hot.

ZX score: 3-2 cold.

MMNT: Net on Fire > Waterworks. By a long shot. Hot.
BN1: Too close to call between the oven and the waterworks.
BN2: No cold stage, no contest.
BN3: No hot or cold stage.
BN4: No hot or cold stage.
BN5: No hot stage.
BN6: Robo Control PC > Aquarium. Hot.
SF1: No cold stage.
SF2: No hot stage.
SF3: Somebody rip the music from this game already so I can judge it!

BN/SF score: 2-0 hot.

Net result: 3 series to hot, 2 to cold.
15 games to hot, 9 games to cold, 7 ties, 6 insufficient competition, 1 music unavailable.

Huh. Now that sounds much better than the Wonderswan version, in which the music is absolutely atrocious.

The shield boomerang is rather meh. It has limited coverage. Doesn't protect you against attacks from above, behind, or below at all. I never use it much. Jewel Satellite, on the other hand, is rather broken.

Can't comment on IHX as I've never played it (I don't have a PSP).

The velocity with respect to R? R is rotating, so it's not an inertial reference frame. Not to mention that it's easy to see that the upward velocity of that platform would be a function of the tangent of the angle and thus this condition couldn't be maintained since as the angle approached 90 its velocity would approach infinity and it can't do that.
Whoever made up that problem was being rather sloppy.

Rockman Series / Re: Cheapest Boss Attack(s) in the series?
« on: November 21, 2008, 12:46:13 AM »
Ah yes, Alpha's Sigma Lightning attack. Dance, baby, dance! Or just use an Invis chip or something else that makes you immune to it.

Of course, having both versions of the game can work to your benefit. I know I played an awful lot through Blue before I really touched White. Thing to do? Trade a bunch of powerful stuff over that you normally wouldn't have access to yet. Alpha is annoying normally but if you throw up a Life Aura he can't touch you with anything. Ha! [eyebrow]

Still, I think the cheapest attack by far in the alternate timeline games is Pegasus SP's giant Iceberg of doom. Absolutely undodegable and unblockable. Only way to avoid it is to get lucky and be able to throw up an Invis, Barrier, or Aura in time. And unlike Leo and Dragon's ultimate attacks, which you can just absorb the damage from if you're doing well enough, Pegasus' freezes you, meaning if you get hit by it, you also get hit by his next attack. So even if you can survive it, you're still probably toast if you get hit with it. Much annoyance. Pegasus remains the only boss (Well, except Andromeda) in that game that I haven't S ranked. Thank goodness for cipher mail so you don't need to!
