Roots is a synonym of origin, you know...

I think X9 was too logically straightforward. Even if it had been a crazy concept it would have been amazing. I really enjoyed previous years hoaxes, both inside and outside RPM (God, that VAVA in RMZ4 event cutscene really got me back in the day, mainly because it was really close to the release date)

Scramble Battle screens, Zero in MM9, a MMZ Anniversary Collection, a Brawl hack with Mega man or Trigger...you name it.
I personally would have loved a Megaman Soccer 2.

Maybe it's an official Capcom sprite, but it looks similar to some fan-made graphics by total coincidence!

You forgot all the other Axl details, and the smaller size. =p And in all seriousness, I see distinct differences. Besides, even scratching in the same style with similar designs provides similar results. Just look at ZERO's Zero and ZX's Z and ZX.

On an unrelated note to that, I quote myself:

Cpapcom has nothing to do with this.

To tell you the truth, Cpapcom's life after the 'game' of two years ago was short lived as one employee got a burnout by harsh critics and another got fired. Something about being lazy, not meeting deadlines, resulting in the use of crappy program filters to texture a sprited background.

With one employee remaining, the division was disbanded. But, last year, our fired ex-employee did pull an abysmal prank with an impossible jump and shoot screenshot, a black background and a weird chimera... I suspect that ex-employee might have something to do with this too.

The X series has always been about progression, not regression.

That's weird, I distinctly remember X7 coming out after X1. :(

Whether one thinks that's a good thing or not is up to the one playing the game though.

Umm... There hasn't really been that much progression in the series. There's been some extra things tacked on over the years, but the same can be said for any of the series, including Classic. Besides, there are those that prefer the smooth gameplay of the first 3 X games. If they could mix up some of the extras from later on in the series into the old style of basic gameplay, it would kick far more ass than a lot of the stuff they've done recently.

I have one thing to say to this:
Retro works great for MM9. It would /not/ work for X9. The X series has always been about progression, not regression. The graphics get better, the gameplay changes. I just cannot see; nor would I ever support; a X series installment that went back to the 8/16-bit days.

Well, the X series has always worked as a sort of guinea pig for Capcom's short and long-term intentions with Mega Man. Things like multiple playable characters, arsenal upgrades, optional bosses, 3D gameplay, tag-team, randomized level design, exploration quests all started with X and some of them will likely die with X.

The problem is that most of them started out as alpha at best, and they clearly promoted those games around (and around) these features, so general quality might have taken a hit in some cases. See X7...

Tag-team for example was introduced in X7, and it was a very primitive execution, later polished in X8.

The part system is also something they don't seem to have made up their minds on. Each game had a different system, most very experimental...

No, it didn't. You had an assistant character in X3, almost an easter egg. In X7 the gameplay revolves around choosing two hunters, switching between them and using their particular skills accordingly.
