To be fair there are any number of ways groups can get a person's name nowadays, just don't respond quickie; they tend to use people's names to scare them into responding or by making what ever they are selling seem legit.

You can discover anyone's first name just by analyzing their phone number. I don't know if it's by searching data plans or SIM card registration, but it is possible.

That's most likely how the message used your name.

I use my nickname for my number. I don't use my actual first name. My relatives do. And they spell it wrong.

Also, when I asked who that was, that's when they used my name.
