Oh, going back a page to touch upon the Pokemon RP and not many people knowing enough about it to participate...
My knowledge ends with Johto, and the years have stripped it away even more. I know of only a handful of Pokemon enough to throw together a few moves. Many of the new types and new species are so damn foreign to me that I stick to Gens I and II. I have Bulbapedia open in another tab, constantly. Every single Pokemon that I'm not familiar with, I look up. I look up their moves, their types, and make wild guesses as to what moves would be relatively effective against what, and I'm still screwing things up.
But, you know what? I'm not about to let my faded lack of knowledge stop me. I'm familiar with some of the anime and manga, so I use what I can. I rely heavily on the characters and species I know well. It limits me, but only in battle. The weirdness and mind-fuckery? That's... just because I watch too many damn psychothrillers.
But in terms of stuff I'm not familiar with, I will readily research it and ask for assistance. There are a few SW characters whom I'm not very familiar with, but I have Wookieepedia to help me with that. For a while, I was hesitant to join the Pokemon RP because my knowledge of the franchise was dated and weak. I joined anyway, and now look at the monster it has become!
Though, perhaps I should have stayed away and allowed for the happy-go-lucky non-plot to continue...
