I never found grinding gruelling at all.

It's an RPG, grinding will always take hours unless the game was built around you getting enough experience with just going from point A to point B like Chrono Trigger or Paper Mario and Pokemon is certainly not built that way.

I played those games but then Paper Mario and Chrono Trigger were a lot more 'lenient' in regards to grinding.

Here's what I do:

Get three low-level Pokemon and give them each a Lucky Egg (since I only have three).

Make lead Pokemon a lvl100.

Go to the Battle Chateau and fight Audino.

You'll have them leveled in no time. I was able to level a dozen Pokemon an evening. That's maybe three or four hours of gameplay, total.

You can also do this with friend-evolutions. Soothe Bell, Colorful Berry Drink, Massage, bike trip, battle for a while. I had a Swoobat evolved in an HOUR.

For AS I just rematch trainers since there is no Chateau. I hope in the inevitable DP remakes they put a Chateau like place where the Ribbon society and villa is.

EDIT: So I just remembered that I have a Surfing Pikachu in my Pearl but since I have to delete Surf and the Move Reminder in ORAS can teach moves that Pokemon have learned regardless if the Pikacha can learn Surf again.

Use Platinum as a base, and bring back the Battleground.
One thing that I gripe about ORAS is the lack of Gym Leader rematches, but especially May/Brendan rematches.

With the Battleground, we can rematch the Sinnoh Leaders, and those IV Trainers.

In X I always go to the three-star restaurant to grind. Lucky Egg, Exp. Boosting O-Power, send them out with a Protect TM and have their teammates wail on the opponents in a Triple Battle. It works fairly quickly, and also give a Luck Incense to your high-level lead, and you should be making money once you sell off the Balm Mushrooms you get at the end.

Yeah I was lucky enough to get a hax Tornandus then when I got Landorus I traded it for a Keldeo. I also caught Terrakion in 1 Ultra Ball yesterday after realizing he wasn't part Ground. Now I'm going to try, most likely in vain, to get a Meloetta for an extra Zekrom. I might change for Xerneas instead.

EDIT: Yeah I changed to Xerneas and got it because I noticed Thunderus had less Meloetta offers so I decided to use the extra Thunderus for that.

Also I seemed to have found a Secret Base that pays homage to Lt. Surge's gym with trash cans everywhere. However he needs a Guitarist, an Old Dude and a Swimmer since you can't be a Sailor and unfortunately his Pokemon don't match Surge's. They were HM slaves, but I'm still putting it into my favorites since that amuses me.

It seems my Hoenn Dex only needs a Roserade and Marshstomp to be completed, guess I know what I have to raise tomorrow.

There are tons of Blissey base QR codes. I filled all the Secret Meadow and Secret Shore, so I can flute my way over from the Battle Resort

Luckily I was able to afford the Vitamins I needed though I still need to breed that Electrike later. Admittedly I kind of want to breed a Shiny Staryu but don't have a Foreign one to help. Nor do I have a Foreign Torchic.
