"Ignoring the technicalities, my client DID answer Mewtwo with regards to its purpose. Don't ALL Pokemon want to wholeheartedly fight for their Trainers? Mewtwo, by DISAGREEING to that purpose... It's the making of a rebellion!!"

"This isn't the place to be making broad generalizations, Mr. Payne. There are many Pokemon in the wild happy to just be in the wild! There are also Pokemon in Safari Zones that obviously don't want to fight for Trainers, judging by how they run away when you approach them!"

All those Dratinis who fled from me... I only wanted to be friends! Phoenix thought sadly for a second.

"This case isn't about any possible rebellion, and a good Trainer works together with their Pokemon, bolstering a friendship so there's some give-and-take. Ordering a Pokemon to do what you want it to, even if it doesn't, is cruel! Especially when you're commanding one with such high intelligence as Mewtwo!"

(Side note: When Phoenix was gathering evidence in Fuchsia City, he stopped by the Safari Zone to check it out and managed to encounter several Dratinis, but they all fled. One flung a rock at him.)

Payne shook his right index finger.

"Who's making generalizations? I refered to Pokemon that are owned by Trainers. Don't they ALL want to help their Trainers? Mewtwo was given life, thanks to my client. If it weren't for him, would Mewtwo even exist? Hence, is it really so much to ask to fight for my client?"

[Mirby]

"Your client wasn't the only one who gave Mewtwo life; because of the circumstances of his birth, it is thanks to all the scientists who painstakingly worked on the project that ultimately resulted in his creation. To say your client is the sole reason Mewtwo lives is to ignore the work of the lives lost by your client's own actions!"

(So we're talking with anime Giovanni, right? No chance to bring up things from game Giovanni in the case?)

(Considering game Giovanni didn't mention ever having Mewtwo in his possession, or using it on Gary, I'm pretty sure we're using the anime version)

"And whose funding was it that the scientists were able to utilize such that the project could continue? Funding from my client! Again, without his funding, the project would not have even started!!"

"Irrelevant! The funding may have come from him, but the work on actually creating Mewtwo was thanks to many others," Phoenix objected before turning to the witness. "Giovanni, you may be spreading it on thick so you sound honorable and sympathetic to the court, but I have evidence here that should help shatter that image you're trying to maintain...

When you were a Gym Leader, you used to keep all your Pokemon locked in cages when you weren't using them. Regarding the Mount Quena incident, you threatened to kill Mewtwo's family of clones if he didn't return to you. You even used a couple of machines to try to force Mewtwo to submit to your will. Later on in Unova, you wanted the power of Meloetta for your own, and captured Ash and his Pikachu in a cage, threatening to kill them if Meloetta didn't go with you. If your operatives hadn't come to the rescue when the power of an artifact known as the Reveal Glass took your mind over, you'd have destroyed the entire Unova region. As it stands, part of the region was completely frozen as a result of your actions," Phoenix explained. "Your Honor, I submit this testimony to the Court Record," he added, turning to the Judge briefly before facing the Rocket leader once again.

"Did I miss anything?"

(Wait, Giovanni caused part of Unova to go into an ice age!? Wait. Was this during the Temple arc?)

The Judge nodded, "Very well, the court accepts this testimony."

(Yeah, it was the finale of Operation Tempest, Wily. Figured I'd throw that in there because not only was threatening to kill a child a damn good indicator of how evil he is, the fact that he froze part of a region is even worse. Even if he wasn't technically in control of himself at the time.

(Oh whew. Still, think it helps to establish Giovanni as unfit to take Mewtwo back. That and the numerous death threats and the attempts to force Mewtwo to obey him with rather torturous means)

(Payne's talked a lot this trial. He's old, he needs to rest his vocal cords every once in a while. After all, it's not like he has chords of steel! )

(Why don't we just combine anime and game Giovanni? I mean, technically, we're in neither timeline and we're already using bits from each, as well as the manga. o3o)

(I pretty much combined bits from Game Giovanni and was working on combining bits from Manga Giovanni.  Dr. Fuji already became Mr. Fuji, and Blaine's prominence as one of Mewtwo's creators was elaborated mostly in the manga, so why not combine bits for Giovanni?)

Giovanni's thoughts had drifted off during the bickering.  He had asked the bailiff for his coffee so he could drink more of it--not knowing that it was tampered with again--and downed that entire mug quickly.  His stomach felt full and watery, and that disconnected feeling was even worse, but he didn't care.  Or rather, his thoughts didn't dwell as they meandered off elsewhere.  If anyone asked him anything, he may not have heard.

He took a moment to respond as Phoenix's question finally sunk in.  Since he was only half-listening, he missed many of the details, but he assumed that the lawyer was talking about his testimony.  Giovanni shook his head. "I think you got it all."

Domino, in her seat, had noticed Giovanni's subtle change in demeanor, knowing that he was quite buzzed from his spiked coffee.  His half-hearted response confirmed his daydreaming. Yes!  Her internal cheer, she reaffirmed to herself, wasn't for Giovanni's faltering, but for the benefit of securing his financial future.

(Game Giovanni feature it is then!)

"Your Honor, I'd also like to submit this tool into the Court Record, or at least what it says," he said, holding up a long oval-shaped object. "This is a Fame Checker, and a young Trainer gave it to me. He had a habit of talking to everyone he saw, and there's one relevant entry in it, said by a scientist from Silph Co. who was there when it was captured by Team Rocket," he added, pressing a button.

Team Rocket's Boss is terribly cruel! To him, Pokémon are just tools to be used.

"I hardly think one who has caused so much damage and has mistreated so many Pokemon aside from his darling Persian is qualified to gain control of Mewtwo, especially when past events have shown how badly he wanted Mewtwo to use as a weapon," Phoenix said proudly.

Hierophant continues to observe the court, obviously aware of the necessary underhand that resulted in Giovanni's current lackadaisical state.  He still feels that someone is going to notice and bring it up during the trial, but hopes it isn't before his time on the stands is up.

His only concern at the moment was how Giovanni was going to react once the liquor washes out of his senses.  Whether it will happen during trial or after Mewtwo has been freed is still up for debate, and he feels he should at least keep watch of that situation and contemplate how to deal with it should it spring up without warning.

"Of course, the court accepts this entry." The Judge stated.

He paused and signaled to the bailiff. "I think I have a turkey sandwich in that paper bag over there. Do you mind passing me it?" He pointed to the table next to the bailiff.

The bailiff scratched his head, "I don't think it's very professional to eat during a trial, your honor."

The Judge pouted, "Really? But I see a few people in the audience snacking. Snack time is precious time, Daniel." He addressed him by his first name.

"... Yes, your honor." The bailiff sighed and handed him the bag.

"Sometimes I wonder if I'm speaking to a grown man or my 8 year old brother..." The bailiff muttered under his breath.
