In the year 2086 CE, the world had achieve the unthinkable: the creation of a safe, affordable means of leaving and entering Earth's atmosphere. This new invention came from the fruits of labor of two technicians: Dr. Light and Dr. Wily. Their prototype model of what they called Mobile Armor was called Blues. Its pilot was named First Light, Dr. Light's own son.
His test mission was simple: escape Earth's gravity, go to the moon, and return. His second was a little more complex: go to Mars and return. Each time, the distance got greater, to see how well equipped Mobile Armors were for deep space voyages and mining on asteroids.
Upon the huge success of Blues, Mobile Armors went into mass production. The significance of Blues's journey through deep space was marked by starting a new age: After Space Voyage (ASV). Commercial models were able to do everything Blues could, but they were unarmed. Space travel became so easy that anyone could do it. The space colonies were founded due to the ease of going from Earth to space.
The GUC (Global United Confederacy) wanted to begin mass production of their own military-grade Mobile Armors. Dr. Light refused. While Blues had been equipped with an arm cannon that Dr. Light called a Buster, it was only designed to protect Blues from debris in space. Secretly, Dr. Wily had already begun developing designs for military Mobile Armors, but not for the GUC, for himself.
Due to Dr. Light's progress on colony design, the colonies became self-sufficient and no longer required imports from Earth. The colonies mimicked the look of Earth, with imperfections in land and simulated weather. Dr. Light was shocked when the colonies used their new design as reasoning to secede from the GUC and form their own, independent government: Flotilla. Flotilla could gather resources from mining asteroids and make their own food due to their use of terraformed soil. They believed that cooperation with GUC slowed down decisions of great priority. Naturally, the GUC didn't react to the creation of Flotilla happily.
The most shocking part was revealed then. The one who seeded these beliefs in the people of the colonies and whose idea it was to create Flotilla showed himself: Dr. Wily. Not only that, but the pilot of Blues, Dr. Light's own son, confessed his sympathy for Flotilla's cause.
