I thought this would make for an interesting topic. What was the spark that got you deep into this hobby?

For me, it was weekly game nights when I was 3 or so watching my Aunt and Mother go back and forth on Tetris or Super Mario Bros. I just had to try it myself and sure enough, I had become hooked.

Hm.

My earliest memory of gaming was my older sister having an Intellivision in her room. Then I recall my parents asking if we would play an Atari 2600 if they got one, and I guess that was it.

...Holy christ. My addiction to videogames and geek culture is my parents' fault.

it was probably learning how to play the Megazone arcade machine in my grandparents' garage that got me into it. Mario World might've helped too.

Either Super Mario Bros or Street Fighter 2, can't remember since it was so long ago.

The first console I can still remember having was the sega genesis...
I think it was sonic that got me into gaming...

Oh my this brings back alot of memories indeed.

As for me, I can say my first real influence was from my brother and some of my older friends when I was like 5. I was more or less completely hooked when I was given a GameBoy Color and brother brought home a Playstation (which ironically I chose Megaman 8 for one of our first games to buy as well).

Needless to say it was the combined influence of my older siblings/and cousins, my friends and of course The appeal of games in general.

My childhood memories are quite foggy, but I do remember playing NES way back.
But what I do remember, that was beyond awesome.
Was Sega Channel.
Totally kick ass!

My dad was the one that got me into gaming, with an intellivision I do believe. I'm not positive though, since whatever system it was broke, and my father's memory isn't reliable enough to yield the actual console name. That said, the first games I fully remember playing are on the NES, with the likes of Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, The 2 Zeldas and the Castlevanias (3 in particular).

My parents had a NES before I was even born, so I played that when I was like, 2 years old, all they had for it though was Duck Hunt/Super Mario Bros. and Paper Boy, I didn't really get into gaming though until I played Ocarina of Time at my babysitter's house when I was about 7

We had an NES before with Mario 1 and Mario 3, but this one really did it.

I remember at age 5 or so, watching my dad play some absolutely bizarre puzzle game on an Atari of some sort, and some time after that there was Monkey Island and Civilization. Wasn't introduced to S/NES until after Windows, I think, when my mother took me to her job (where there were kids sometimes, so they had those kind of games).
They were more my kind of games at the time, the Atari/PC games were simply too advanced. Visits to a friend that always had the latest and greatest became frequent.

First time I ever touched a game was basically the Star Wars games on the good 'ol 32x and other games at the Boomers Arcade, following Mech Warrior 3 and so forth.
