while its nothing new that talk of video games confuses grandma, I saw this on the net and decided to post it here.

Video games
take us to many fantastic worlds, but it's rarely a good idea to discuss your digital deeds in the presence of nongamers. Enjoy this little tale from the world of customer service courtesy of Not Always Right.

(I overheard two cashiers talking about World of Warcraft
while an older female customer and her husband approached them.)

Cashier #1: "My guild went on a big raid last night but didn't complete it."

Cashier #2: "You weren't able to kill the boss?"

Cashier #1: "No, the boss was really tough to kill; we're going to try again tomorrow."

Customer: *to husband* "We should call a manager–I can't believe these kids are talking about killing their boss!"

Cashier #2: "Oh no, ma'am, it's a video game called World of Warcraft. You go on adventures to kill monsters, and the big ones are called 'bosses'."

Customer: "I don't care about your 'World War' game. No wonder there is so much violence in this world - video games teaching kids to kill their bosses!"

Cashier #1: "It's not 'World War,' ma'am, it's World of Warcraft, and it's not teaching us violence…"

Customer: "I don't care what it's called. My husband fought in a real world war and he can tell you, violence is not a game! Right, Richard?

    Customer's husband: *distracted* "Huh?"

Customer: "Forget it. C'mon, we're never coming back to this place. One of these kids is bound to shoot the place up."

...When Larry the reploid accountant goes maverick of his own accord, he's certainly formidable during tax season, but he isn't going to provide X the challenge needed to make him grow as a warrior and reach his potential.

In other news, the sun came up this morning.

But seriously, this isn't anything new.

Try explaining to your grandparents the story of Chrono Trigger, and that you're currently level grinding using an exploitable glitch sometime.

"You hear that? He's exploiting the game."

Mom loves her DS and Puzzle Games.
Dad doesn't play much anymore, but use to go toe to toe with me in Mario Kart 64 Battle Mode.

Never knew my Grandparents.

ive never even TRIED explaining my video games do my granma. well, once, and she seemed to understand the basic "thats the bad guy right there"
Mom.. meh. shes been around me for long enough that she can understand the games, though i doubt she could play them. (if she ONLY tried... heck, we would have discussions about Yugioh... >>; ) my Dad.. he used to race me in GTR 98. but thats about it, since I dont have many multiplayer games. plus it was straight foreward. "race". -.-; he probably wouldnt understand certain other games though.

My grandfather watches me playing Ninja Gaiden 2. He thought it was the same thing all the time, but it's the same person in different places! He didn't mind the loads of blood? o.o
As for my dad, he likes to play car games like Needs For Speed: Most Wanted. He's planning to play GTA4.
My twin is really like games, but she hates old style, pixelated, games like Megaman, Mario, Sonic, etc... -.-;

Technically, all games have pixels in them. It's just that the current generation games are rendered in a way that you don't notice the pixels as much.

In short, your twin needs to get her head out of her ass and play some Mario.

My dad once came to some high level in Duck Hunt (40? 60? I don't remember). Mom only recognizes few characters, but playing just isn't her thing.
