Been a while, hasn't it? Well, I've been a bit busy (read: lacking motivation), and only recently have I finally decided to fix my computer, so things are in working order. That should mean (hopefully) that I'll draw more! Yay!
In the meantime, though, my creativity has been coming out in other ways, mainly crafts and photography. And assorted doodles I need to scan. And fanfics I need to write. And an audio adventure I'm currently working on. So, anyway, without further adieu, here's a buncha stuff, starting with the most recent thing I finished; my Tom Baker scarf.
BEHOLD!
It is 12 feet long, so I need to wrap it a good four or five times so it won't drag on the ground. I'll have pics of the scarf in-progress, and on me, tomorrow. It took me roughly a month to crochet it, so I'm not taking any requests. The pattern was relatively easy, though, if anyone wants it.
Now for the photography...
A large toad at my mum's house. He posed quite nice for me this passed summer.
Two kittens from a litter over the summer. Doda and Sy cuddling quite sweetly.
Rainbow over Gettysburg.
Make that a double-bow.
Boat on the banks of my great-grandpa's pond. I'm really pleased with how this pic turned out, considering that I use my phone. It was a drizzly fall day, and the lighting was just perfect, so I framed the shot, got in the mud, and snapped the pic.
My cat, Han, sleeping. Another pic that I'm very pleased with the result. My white balance was set for "Sunny," which produced the orange filter. Han was asleep and I just leaned down really close and snapped the pic at an angle I thought was neat.
Conewago Creek. I think. I need to look up the name... Anywho, it was another summer day and I was on my way back from the swimming hole. I crawled out onto an overhanging branch to take this pic.
Storm clouds. The storm that came with it was nasty. Produced some lovely clouds, though.
Annnd... that's it for now til I upload more. Enjoy!
The scarf came out fan-freakin-tastic, Quickie! It's so huge too! 8D
And those pics are lovely as well. The kitties are cute!
Photography as well? Wow, you are really talented Quickie. As I've said before, you could go far with those talents. Great stuff! 8)
wow you made that scarf? That looks great, and pretty photos and kitties are nice too.
You must have a nice frickin' phone to take such clear photos.
Samsung with a full keyboard. 1.4 megapixel, if I recall. Out of all my phones, this one takes the best pics.
Scarf Quickie... Hmm... :3
Amazing photos there...
The kittens... D'awww... >w<
Man I wish I lived in a place like that my part of Californina is boring, boring I tell yah!
Now to get that sexy, rubbable ass of yours drawing again! 8D
Oh, now that my computer has been fixed back to sexcellent perfection, I intend to! It'll be interspersed by my other big projects (full-size Dalek build, and the audio adaptation of a comic), but I intend to start drawing a whole lot more now.
Yay! Double-bow! 8D

Yeah, they did. But the webmaster just summed it all up as "curves."
Very, very impressive stuff. You're really talented and you've got a great comic style. I really like your Rodians and esurance gal. She reminds me of Danger Girl and Totally Spies. I look forward to seeing more.

Anywho, reinstalled the scanner software, so I scanned a few things. Only one's coloured and it's another one of my many SW fan characters. The pic was drawn a while back, I just coloured it earlier this evening.
Solah Tark (http://swfanon.wikia.com/wiki/Solah_Tark)

Aww... She looks like she wants a hug...
Another amazing colouration Quickie, and horray indeed for fixed comps. XD
Quickie: Here's a dirty trick. You use Photoshop, right? If your scanner uses an USB connection, you DON'T NEED the scanner software. In Photoshop, go to File > Import > WIA Support, pick your scanner, and you can scan stuff directly from inside Photoshop. :)
I wish I knew that before I installed the printer. XD Ah well, I needed the printer installed anyway.

Whoa, I really really love your artstyle, Quickie. owo
Man, how I missed your great arts Quickie! nice to see this back once again!
Awesome Hitomi there!
Not necessarily art, but it's something. Recently, my brother and I decided to do some stop-motion animation tests using techniques from the producers of Robot Chicken. A while back, StarWars.Com held a question-and-answer session with the producers, so I took the oppertunity to ask about their animation techniques, puppets used, and framerate. I found that they film at 15 fps "hold two," which they hold poses for two frames. Going on that and seeing as how my brother and I commonly film at 24-30 fps, we're now employing the "hold two" technique, only we're holding poses for 3-4 frames due to our higher framerate.
One of the many motion tests that were done was with one of my Daleks. The Dalek was ideal for the motion test as unlike many of our figures, it won't fall over. So, I set up the shot and animated the Dalek at 30 fps, holding each pose for four frames. The frames were imported to AfterEffects and after several expiraments, the framerate was risen from 30 fps to 60 fps and a motion blur was added to eliminate the staccato effect.
This 3-second motion test is the result. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuN-7wVz2jY)
Right now, we're mostly doing motion tests to get comfortable with the animation technique and framerate. If any other animated shorts are to be done, a script needs to be written, which then needs to be storyboarded, then filmed.
I'd say their technique works very well. That looks awesome.
Have to say I'm liking it so far.
What an awesome way to welcome in our doom... XD
Nothing too major today, just a model sheet. My brother needed me to design a mech and make a model sheet of it to model from.
Front and side, with arms omitted. My brother has the angle sketch. When he finishes the model, I'll post it.
Kick ass. Reminds me of the ED-209! XD
Love your mech design. Reminds me a bit of the style Akira Toriyama used for his mechs.
My brother wanted something more Battletech than Gundam, something functional. So, using several Battletech and EXO Squad references, along with suggestions ("Make the front like a Mack truck, but more alien and rounded"), I sketched up an angled design and then drew the model sheet.
Posted on: January 15, 2009, 06:03:19 AM

Saying it's beautiful would be an understatement.
The wings remind me of some kinda bird I can't put my finger on the name of.

I'm hoping for more snow (lots more snow) so I can take more pics.
Did you filter that or did it just come out that color naturally?
It's so cool.
*waits for pun*
How lovely!
This stuff is truly phenomenal, you could really get places with this talent of yours you really could.
Almost makes me want to practice coloring again... =]
Hmm... around what time was that picture taken, Quickie? My guess would be around sunset, judging by how it works around here.
Early morning, around 8 or so, if I recall. I had my white balance set for cloudy.
Ah, I see... it gave a very nice effect, to say the least.
I still say you should post some of your old art! XD
Mebbe tomorrow I'll go through my folders and post some stuff. Right now, though, I just wanna catch up on things I missed while working on that CJ page, another project and a wiki article. XD

Great photo there.
Photobucket's eating ram, no thanks to a stupid "New In Town" interface/banner they have slapped on the front page, so I'm not in the mood tonight to deal with that. I have Photoshop up currently and don't wanna close it just to please Photobucket's retarded ad campaign. So all it's being used for tonight is to upload a pic.
While waiting for the net, I cobbled together a starship. Behold, the Rhythm Divine, a junk-hauling scavenger ship.
This bugger uses chemical rockets for takeoff, a basic ion drive for cruising speed, and a scavenged hyperdrive. The hyperdrive isn't all that efficient, so travel takes anywhere from weeks to months to even years, depending on location and distance. Hyper-sleep chambers, ala Alien, are installed on the ship.
Kick ass design, really! For what you were going for, it came out great!
Quickie, if you use AdBlock for Firefox, I can give you my filterset, which blocks nearly just about ANYTHING on Photobucket that's not the actual user interface. :P
That would be helpful as sometimes Photobucket likes to slow my browser down to a crawl.
Anywho, since I had Photoshop open, I decided to draw and colour the captain of that ramshackle ship. I still need to write up his bio.

He really looks incredible. His coloring is spectacular.
Thanks. Septavious there is of the Squib (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Squib) species. I wanted to add some variety to my character roster, and Squibs are cute. First time I've coloured fur in Photoshop.

Since I finally got to use the net tonight, here's a small image dump of stuff I was working on before to keep myself entertained.
Drew up another character I'm working on the backstory for. He's the last in my cyberpunk SW characters so far.
This next one is just trying out some colour schemes. In Dalek Empire II, another Dalek faction was introduced and they were described as basically having a new paint job. So, I grabbed my one figure, drew it and coloured it in the colours I pictured when listening to the audio series.
Then, I got bored and decided to draw tentacles.
Technically, it's more than tentacles, and was an exercise in texturing and shading techniques.
Another great SW character Quickie, plus blue Daleks...
Lastly... Tentacles... 8D XD
Damn those all look magnificent Quickie. Everything about them kicks ass!
Agreed, especially the blue dalek.

Been a while since I updated. I've been bogged down with other things. Either way, I finished off an image I was working on a couple days ago. It was actually an edit and colouring of a sketch I drew up a while back that I decided to reuse for a character biography headshot. The only problem, the original sketch was naked. So, I drew in some skin-tight spandex clothes and coloured it in.

Goddamn she's hot. Sexily hot! 8D
I still do love the Naked version though!
*stares at it for a long while*
*cough**cough* Er...awesome Quicky! So not only is the suit skin tight, it's also skin colored (it kinda looks like it)? XD
If you close in to the chest area and hide everything else it looks like an awesome butt, of the kind our own little Jerry would be proud. :P
Other than that, awesome work, Quickie. I still say you should make a detailed tutorial of your coloring technique.
Looks like another project to do then, as my technique's been evolving quite a bit. It went from matte colour with two-toned cast shadow to tones with cast shadow. And I'm gonna try out new techniques as well with an image I have planned. I guess when I start on that image, I'll use it for an extremely detailed tutorial on damn near everything that goes into making a pic. XD
Anywho, just put the finishing touches on another image.

Now this is a cute character <3
You really should do an old dump here. T'would be worth seeing indeed.
I 300% agree with the Sky!
Skintight spandex... Best solution ever. :P
And seriously awesome pieces Quickie, the colouring, it's simply amazing.
Just a digital painting exercise.
I'm toying around with various techniques for a larger pic I have planned.
The shading is really great, a very beautiful and cute pic.
That simply turned out fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.
Beautiful Shading!
The clothes shading are superb! you have to teach us sometime. 8)
Well, this weekend I plan on getting started on the larger pic that the exercise was for. So, I'll make sure to base a detailed tutorial around that that'll not only detail my technique, but the process of creating a detailed image from start to finish. Though, 'fore I get to the major painting, I may do some more exercises so I'll write up a quick tutorial with one of those as the larger image may take me a while.
Anywho, I had drawn this up a while ago 'fore that digital painting exercise. It's my one character, Eniki Kwadwo (who's also in the sig) all grown up. I played around with Blending Modes when shading her shirt and adding cast shadow.
I look forward to the larger pic as well!
Oh wow :O
The checkered shirt is very impressive.
Hmmm, blending modes? is it on photoshop cs1?
I'm using CS3, but yeah. They're in the Layers Pallet. The drop-down menu that usually says "Normal"? That's your Blending Modes. For colouring scanned images, I usually have my linework on the top layer with the Blending Mode set to "Multiply" and add my colour and shading layers underneath.
Oh, I knew I've used that one before! I just forgotten about it.
Could be useful for future works.
Wow, she looks great, and that checkered shirt, man...
Looks so real.
Whoa, the checkered shirt looks so real and awesome!
I don't even start using Photoshop CS3. ._.
Quickie, goddammit, you need to get your scarlet ass to making that digital coloring tutorial. XD
Hrm... Last night I came across a few old stories I was working on. One of 'em was a ZX fic that I started on before ZX even was imported, so there are no doubt some glaring flaws in it concerning the characters and history. But what the hey, I started writing it and had a half-decent plot in mind. Then I lost interest about two or three pages in and forgot about it.
So, I'm gonna share the crap with you all! XD
QuoteUntitled ZX Fic.
A warm breeze wafted through the open warehouse door, birds chirping outside. The region had recovered quite well over a very short amount of time since the Maverick and Elf Wars. It seemed too perfect, and too fast, as the growth and replenishment of flora and fauna was hurried along by the very technology that destroyed it centuries before. Immense towers loomed in the distance, keeping a vigil over the regions. No one was sure who exactly built the towers or how they work; the information was lost in the overgrowth of ruin cities in the Outer regions. One thing was for certain; the structures apparently aided nature's return.
When the first blade of green grass sprouted on the planet, it took millions of years for it to happen. Then another million years for trees to grow. This time, however, it only took roughly a hundred years. The dead wastelands breathed again with such speed that it was unnatural, according to scientists and geologists that have long studied the effects that Man has had on the Earth.
Whatever the reasons or whatever the circumstances, life had begun again and the humans have repopulated with the help of the machines they built. And the Reploids gained an essence of humanity by implementing a set lifespan into the newer models. The humans are living longer with cybernetic implants and enhancements, while the Reploids sacrificed their durable and hardworking systems for parts that would degrade over time and allow them to die, just as the humans want them to. The lines between the two races have blurred, though the humans still needed something to separate flesh and blood from metal and circuits. All Reploids now bore a red triangle marking on their foreheads. The machines cannot be human, but the humans can be machines.
While many have come to accept the Reploids as a race and allow them to meld into the population, there are still those that will have nothing to do with it. The Reploids were the cause of the dreaded wars centuries before, and there was no way in hell that history is going to repeat itself. The machines are tools built by the humans and are to be used by the humans, as is the mindset of the old-fashioned. Organized hate-groups have cropped up and public rallies were a familiar site. Reploid businesses have been attacked, and government officials have been slandered. A few were executed.
Though, the activity of those groups have dwindled and all but subsided. The Serpent Company made sure of that. Being the largest Reploid-owned conglomerate gave them an edge over the humans. They controlled the commerce and the military, and kept the human hate-groups in check. Many humans and Reploids practically worshiped Serpent, as he was a great and generous man. He funded civic projects, he donated profits to charities, and he made lives better and easier. He was very warm to his admirers, a very open and kind-hearted individual who did not allow his position of power to go to his head like so many have done before.
Not everything was as it seems, as one of the smaller shipping companies, Girouette Express, often transported rather unorthodox parcels for the Serpent Company. No questions were asked, as the packages were never opened. They were sent from one place to another as they are supposed to and the payment was collected. It was all business with Girouette, owner of the shipping company, and Serpent planned to keep it that way. He didn't need some young upstart asking questions and nosing in business that's not meant for his eyes.
* * * *
A wayward candy wrapper bounced through the open door, pushed along by the summer breeze. Vent paused in the unloading of boxes off of one of the freighter trucks to wipe the sweat from his brow. It was a comfortable day, but after hours of carrying packages back and forth, the heat was starting to get to him. The wind was a welcome change from the dust inside the warehouse. Leaning heavily against the truck, Vent flapped his shirt, trying to cool himself off.
"Take a break already, Vent." Girouette looked up from his work. "You've been working yourself like a dog; you don't need to rush things. The truck doesn't leave until tonight, you have time to relax." He glanced at the forms strewn about on the makeshift desk constructed from crates and boxes. "'Sides, Aile will be back with lunch soon. Take a break."
Vent shook his head between pants. "Nah, I'm fine. I'm almost finished anyway." He started for another box.
Girouette put the clipboard aside and stood, walking over and sitting on the box to prevent Vent from moving it. "Seriously, break time." He crossed his arms. "You need to relax a little and pace yourself. It's hot outside and you're gonna work yourself to a coma if you keep this up. Get a drink and enjoy the breeze for a while. I'll take over the unloading." He smiled, pushing his glasses back up on the bridge of his nose and tucking a loose strand of blonde hair behind his ear. "You're alright, Vent and I admire your work ethic, but if you keep this up, you're gonna make me look like a slave driver." He laughed.
Vent laughed as well, shrugging. "Yeah, you're right. Fine, I'll take a break." He flapped his shirt again and walked over to the vending machine for a drink. "So... who're these packages for anyway? What's in 'em?"
"Haven't the slightest." Girouette shrugged, adjusting his glasses yet again and flipping through some forms on his clipboard. "I usually don't ask it's none of my business. As long as we get paid, then I really don't care what we're shipping." He chewed on the end of his pen, and then wrote something down.
Popping the tab on his can of soda, Vent took a long swallow. He ran his fingers through his spiky brown hair, his bangs wet with sweat. A smell caught his nose, rising from his soaked armpit. Ugh... I need a shower. That was one of the downfalls of working; stinking of sweat. Vent is a young human boy, unlike Girouette who was clearly marked as a Reploid. The red triangle on his forehead set him apart from Vent and Aile, another human girl. The two kids lost their families in Maverick attacks and Girouette took them in. He wasn't much older than they were, appearance-wise, but his real age was unknown. He was constructed to look like an adolescent and he would remain trapped in eternal youth until his systems degraded from age.
Though he may be a machine, there was one advantage Girouette had over Vent and Aile; he doesn't stink when he sweats. If he sweats at all.
Vent sighed, fanning himself and flapping his shirt to dry out his armpits. The sound of a motorcycle engine caught his ears and he turned to look, seeing Aile dismount the bike with an armload of take-out. "Finally! What took you so long?!"
Aile put the bags on the stacked boxes and began to sort it. "Your finicky appetite, that's what! I hadta go clean across town just to get your food!" She shook her head, handing a covered dish to Girouette and then tossing the wrapped sandwich to Vent who caught it with one hand. "Next time... just get Chinese or something. It'll be easier on gas."
Vent snorted, unwrapping his sandwich and sitting on a box to eat. The shipping business consisted of a warehouse, three motorcycles and the occasional truck. There wasn't much to it, not even a separate office for Girouette. He had a computer, a laptop which he would put on a stack of boxes, but for the most part, the inventory and customer information was written by hand. The Serpent Company paid them well, but not enough to actually move into a more professional building. Vent sighed, kicking the box on which he sat, seeing something odd dusting from the seams. "Hey, Giro?" He stood. "Something's busted in this one." He nodded to the box.
Girouette adjusted his glasses and walked over, taking out his utility knife. "Probably dust, but I'll check... Just say nothing to our client about this, we're not supposed to open these." Righting the package, he slid the blade across one of the lids, prying it off. A cloud of white powder rose up from inside.
Vent covered his face, backing away as Aile came over. "Geez! Whatever was in there must've been pulverized!"
"I don't think so..." Girouette shook his head, waving his hand in front of him to clear the air. "It smells really weird." Reaching into the box, he took out a few clear plastic bags, each packed full of a white powder. The bags dropped from his hands. "Oh [parasitic bomb]."
"What? What's in there?" Aile looked into the box. "It looks like—"
"Drugs." Girouette finished. "It's fulla drugs! There must be at least—I dunno; ten-twenty pounds of crack in here!" He shot his gaze to the stack of parcels sitting beside the truck. "Bring me a coupla those boxes over there!"
Aile nodded and retrieved a few. "We're shipping drugs?! Who the hell's the client?!"
"Do they even know they're shipping this crap?!" Vent was flabbergasted. "Are all the boxes fulla this stuff?"
Ripping open another box, Girouette nodded. "Yep, here's more. God damn, do you guys know how much trouble we could get in if we get caught trafficking this stuff?!" He shook his head and reached for his clipboard, flipping through the pages. "Oh man... some colleague of Serpent's is shipping this..." Shaking his head again, he sat on an unopened box. "Get the packing tape and seal these buggers. I'll have 'em outta here this evening."
"Wait, what? But, shouldn't we call the cops or something?!" Vent was stunned. "This can't be legal!"
Aile shook her head. "We should burn this stuff! Get rid of it!"
"We can't!" Girouette argued. "Look, this was assigned to us by Serpent himself and he tracks our progress reports! If this crap doesn't get to where it's going, we're done! Finished! He'll use some high-brow legal parlor trick to get it all to end in his favor while we're tossed in jail for smuggling cocaine across the Inner Regions!" He sighed. "I know it doesn't make any sense, but the less we say about this, the better. I'll handle the shipment tonight. You two can have the rest of the day off if you want, I'll handle this stuff."
Vent blinked. "Are you sure, Giro? If we gotta deliver it, me and Aile—"
"No." Girouette shook his head. "You two go home a while. I'll deal with this." He heaved a breathy grunt, shaking his head slowly. "Seriously, both of you go home."
Vent hesitated, but nodded and started for his motorcycle. Again, he paused. "Are you sure?"
"Yes!" Girouette snapped. "Go home!"
Vent nodded quickly and dashed for the door, Aile following. Once he was outside, his pace slowed and he put his hands in his pockets, sighing. "So... whatcha think we should do?"
Aile shrugged. "I say we should call the cops. I don't care who's shipping this, they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it."
"You're right." Vent nodded. "The thing is... Giro doesn't want the cops involved, so we can't just call 'em. And if we do get the police; what if they think we're the ones shipping it and we're thrown in jail anyway?!"
"Possession is nine-tenths of the law, we'd be toast." Aile sighed. "I guess it's a good thing that Giro's handling this and not us. But still, I really don't like this..."
"Me neither. There's not much we can do about it now..."
* * * *
The evening had passed; Vent and Aile had long retired for the night. They lived in Girouette's small, cramped one-room efficiency apartment. He had given up his bedroom for those two, moving out into his tiny living room to sleep on the sofa. The place was often a mess for it was intended to house only one person; Girouette. But things had changed when he "adopted" Vent and Aile.
The locks clicked and keys jingled as the door opened, Girouette entering. Locking the deadbolts, he heaved a sigh and tossed his keys on the table, wandering over in the dark and flopping ungracefully on the couch. He did not bother to remove his glasses or even kick off his shoes; he was just too tired and mentally taxed. He closed his eyes and was about to fall asleep when he heard the bedroom door open.
"Giro?" Aile asked in a quiet voice, padding up to the couch in her socks. "You awake?"
Girouette gazed up at her, and then took off his glasses, setting them aside. "Barely. What's up?"
"Whatcha do with the shipment?"
"I really don't wanna talk about it right now..." He replied with a yawn. "It can wait 'til the morning. Go back to sleep, we got alotta work to do tomorrow."
Leagues better than what actually happened. XD
Great job Quickie, you have a great talent for setting up the visuals and personality with your words.
that's some good crap. i really like it.
Told you they'd like it! :P
Well, I still have the old plot in mind. Some day I should finish the story.
Wow, I really want to see how this goes.
You're a pretty good writer, leauges beyond what I could do if I wrote seriously like that.
Wow... That is on ZX fic I really want to read more of...
Simply awesome.
It's flour
Not much tonight. Just tackling some headshots for character articles from CJ008. One of 'em I drew a couple nights ago.
This started out as a rough sketch just to get a pose and shading reference down. I had a stock photo of a girl and was referencing the shading as I thought the lighting was perfect. Then I just ended up finalizing the image. I employed a different technique in which I did all the shading first, then the actual colouring last. I was also playing with brushes, trying for a gritty look. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, even though I drew it kinda tiny.
I needed a new headshot for Cami's character article as I'm gonna work on getting that to Featured Article status.
This was more another exercise in skintones. Dareth has a round face, which I felt was perfect for practicing skintones. I also played with brushes again, giving his robe some texture. Now to correct the skintones on another image and draw another headshot...
And that's it. Aside from my boredom one day when I went for a hike.
Yeah.
Both of those drawings look spec-freakin-tacular. I really love what you did with the shading. Especially on Dareth's vest there.
I seriously love your shading style Quickie.
Cami... You know. XD
Dareth looks great, and round. XD
And aww at the photo.
Since I was thinking of it, I decided to redo the skintones on another image I did a while back.

WOW! awesome! >w< Good job Quickie!!
Thanks. Roughly 22+ layers for the first pic, about 23+ for the second. The image in my sig still holds second place for 40+ layers, while an old art assignment of mine is in the lead with 82+ layers. Yay, loads of layers!
Anywho, I saw a 1951 Packard 300 sedan Ultramatic and I decided to take a pic of the hood ornament:

It was a colour overlay project. The assignment was to take an image (photo or painting) and remove the colour channels to make it grayscale. Then we were to colour it back in using overlays, each shade on its own layer. I was working on an Alex Ross painting. I was nearing three-quarters of the way done and had 82+ layers.
Very nice hood ornament!
Cool perspective, and the sky seemed to cooperate with some nice clouds too... >w<
Oooh, pretty ornament and cool perspective. o3o
what's a layer? 8D
I always liked the amount of effort you put into your shading, Quickie. It turns out really great in the end. I'm far too lazy to make that many shades, myself. Hell, half the time I just colour it in a don't bother with the shading all that much. I could do it, considering every colour I have is a different layer, but getting to it is a different story.
Anyways, point is that I admire the amount of work and effort you put into it, and it looks awesome. Great Job.
Thanks. I'm still practicing with skintones and such, working on developing a colouring style. Though with my latest endeavors, I'm trying to avoid having the finished pic end up in the Uncanny Valley.
Anywho, I drew a finalized headshot for PB's character from CJ008. Well, I drew the linework last night and coloured it in tonight.

WOW Awesome! Great work Quickie!
Hey, y'know that angel pic I was working on for a while? It's done.
There's just SOMETHING about the shading in the leg that really bugs me, but this is still great and beautiful. A bg made by yourself would improve the picture actually, but I know that could be quite a pain x_x
Hrm, yeah, the leg shading is a bit off. I've been meaning to fix it, but forgot about it in a rush just to finally finish the image.

I'm still fascinated by the whole pic... Wow.

And awesome drawings of Lego X, Sigma, and Zero. 8)
Wait, so CG Lego Sigma has gone places? Did I inadvertantly create another meme? XD
Well, I did remember seeing it on other imageboards, plus in the Stolen Thread. XD
Good to know my stuff's getting around. XD
Anywho, nothing really new today, just something I forgot to post a while back. I had tweaked the hair colour on a pic after I had adjusted the skintones.

Spent the evening painting this. Acrylics on 16 x 20 canvas. It won't fit on my scanner, so I had to take a pic of it with my phone. I'm gonna see if I can get a digital copy scanned at Staples or some place this week as my phone's camera just doesn't do it justice.
Despite the camera's blurriness, it looks really well done Quickie. Strangely enough, I get a weird Ferngully vibe looking at it. XD
It's very beautiful. The detail and colors are simply astonishing. Even without getting it scanned, it's a very lovely piece.
From what can be seen, I really love how the background looks, and the fairy there is beautiful as well.
Amazing job Quickie.
Thanks. I adjusted the levels and colour balance to try to get the pic to resemble the painting as much as possible, but my camera just didn't pick up the lighting. The actual painting is a bit bluer, and the faerie's wings are translucent. I did the foliage using the Bob Ross method. 8D
Woo... Bob Ross... >0<
Really can't wait to see this scanned then... :3
I learned how to paint from my grandpa, who learned from Bob Ross. The first painting I ever did at the wee age of 6 was an oil landscape following a Bob Ross video.
At age 6? Following a Bob Ross vid?
Wow...

Very, very beautiful! owob :cookie:
Since I drew it tonight, I might as well share it. But first... some background info.
Since last Christmas, my brother and I have been diligently working on an audio adaptation of Underworld: The Yavin Vassilika (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Underworld:_The_Yavin_Vassilika). Last weekend, we started finalizing the first scene of the first chapter. We're getting close to releasing the first chapter, I figured I'd better get started on the nitty-gritty PR crap; release planning (where and when), publicity, cover art, etc. So, I drew up some cover art in the style of the comic's artist and made a mock CD cover.
Here's the cover:
And here's the art itself:
And here's some of the corresponding PR stuff (http://swfanon.wikia.com/wiki/Underworld:_The_Yavin_Vassilika_audio_drama).
So good. I'll try to give this a listen whenever you release it Quickie, but seriously, your art kicks ass.
I was curious to see what your finished result was. PB said he was talking to you
while you did this last night.
Very awesome job!
That... Looks just awesome...
Especially the three huge creatures (hutts?) on the back.
Just drew this tonight.

Star Wars: The Yavin Vassilika
Chapter One
Fully-dramatized audio adaptation of the comic series of the same name. (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Underworld:_The_Yavin_Vassilika)
Yes, folks, it is done. At least the first chapter of it. My brother and I have been working on this since Christmas, and seriously, at first we had no idea what we were doing. We had never adapted a comic to audio before. And to make matters worse, all we had at our disposal was a cheap PC mic and Audacity. But, we didn't let it stop us (though the next chapters are being recorded with a better mic and Audition). We each tackled at least ten different voices, dealt with Audacity's frequent crashing and errors (and file corruption, argh), and learned how to make an audio drama. Is it easier than a fan film? No way. Cheaper, yes. Easier, no.
Anywho, without further adieu, I present to you, the first chapter of
Star Wars: The Yavin Vassilika.

If this gets approval by the other RPM'ers, I think we might have a radio show.
LoL, you already know all the feedback I gave to you via GTalk, so I'm not going to Copy-Paste it here. Overall, I'll just point out that you and Pierce did a really fantastic job on this. My congrats to the both of you for all your hard work and effort. It really came out well.
Just finished listening to it...
Wow. The range of voices the 2 of you did... Very impressive.
*standing ovation applause*
I have to agree with Wily! The voices you two did...amazing!
And then of course Itunes has to go and be gay and crash. =(
I hear... African Mines from Duck Tales in the background~! 0v0
Good work on the voices, both of you. They sound as authentic as official actors, if not better. ^^
And in case I haven't stressed this point enough....your Jossel voice is [tornado fang]ing hot! 0v0
Thanks for the compliments guys! Its this kind of stuff that keeps us stressing out over projects like these. The voices took the longest amount of time. First we had to deal with making alien-speaking characters still sound the same while speaking english, no small feat. Plus we were constantly revising from criticisms of our friends to keep the characters sounding authentic.
I know I had complaints from Proto that Han was too low and complaints from my girlfriend that Lando was too low originally. With Han, now, I seem to have satisfied most. But, with Lando I'm getting feedback from my gf, that he's perfect, and feedback from Proto that he is too high. Ah well, I'll try to find that middle ground for the next installment.
Also, I have to hand it to Quickie for suffering through the different voices she had to do before finally constructing something perfect for Zuckuss, it paid off in the end. Most of her voices have been "invented" just for this, while I've been using alot of stock voices that I've created over the years while reading books and comics aloud with my GF, or impersonations of existing characters.
Quickie's worked much harder on this than I have. She's been writing the blocking and sound fx placement during weekdays when I have work, and still recording and editing on the Fridays we meet. Hands off to her. I think the next one will be out much sooner because we won't have to deal with Audacity and we won't need to come up with many new voices. Except for ... Dodonna, ugh.

Well, no matter how hard you try, some voices cannot be truly authentic, simply cause of your own voice. I mean, try as I might, I probably couldn't imitate Han very well. Also, with Lando, it's not that he shouldn't be high, it's that he shouldn't be that high all the time.
Well you're first statement I don't agree with. I believe you can get a level of authenticity to a close enough level that only subtle differences remain. No matter what your voice is. It all takes practice. These voices don't just come out of the woodwork it took alot of practice to figure out how to get my voice to do the right sound even. However the second statement, he shouldn't be that high all the time, I can easily fix and is something I've been trying to find a good balance with. I dropped him down much lower on the last two sentences on the first line I just think I went TOO low there. I've been doing his angry lines in the car over and over again to try to find that balance.

With practice, yes you can get a level of authenticity where only subtle difference remain, but those differences are still there, just like with any imitation. If you've ever watched or listened to commercials talking about Celebrity Imitators, they live off of imitating the style and voice of actors, singers, etc. But you can still hear those subtle differences in there voice. One of our members here, Sato, did a pretty much spot-on imitation of Peter Griffin from Family Guy, but again, you can hear the subtle difference. It's not a criticism about the job you did, cause you two did a great job.
No hard feelings, man. I wasn't taking it as criticism. I thought you were selling YOURSELF short! You said as an example "I couldn't imitate Han very well." That's not very fair to you. With enough practice you could probably sound dead on to the untrained ear, just like anything it takes time. I think even in time subtle differences can be eliminated because in reality all voice is is the vibrations of the vocal chords mixed with the shape of your cranial cavities. While its nigh impossible to change the shape of your cranial cavities, you can adjust the shape of your mouth inside and out, position of your tongue and the vibrations of your vocal chords to produce just about any sound. It would take a VERY VERY skilled person to do that, and believe me I'm nowhere near there. But I would never say "impossible".
LoL, oh don't worry. I never, EVER sell myself short! 8)
We've started recording Chapter Two yesterday. Got about three pages into the audioplay. This one shouldn't take as long to do as we got all the character voices figured out and I won't be struggling with trying to figure out a decent voice for Zuckuss.
And speaking of Zuckuss...

Just a drapery and foreshortening exercise that I felt like colouring in.

"...How the hell did dirt get on the inside of the scope?"
And now, the piece de resistance...
Two or three days of pencil and inkwork, followed by two days of colouring.
*hugs Quickie*
I MISS YOU SO MUCH.
Also, these are incredible. Especially the last one. That's simply beautiful.
You're back with more awesomeness it seems.
I love the second one meself.
Pretty sweet! Hopefully you get full net capabilities back soon!! ^.^
I figured I'd post the inked version of After the Raid, as the colours hide alotta the stippling I did.
And now... for a small sketch dump.
Evil Sorceress PBPB.
It's been an age since I've drawn Dengar. Just a basic design sketch and head study.
Another with Dengar.
And I think the last time I drew Bossk was way back in seventh grade. I like how the shading turned out on his head. The rest of him, though, not so much.
Phenomenal as always, Quickie! Glad that you're back! ^.^

Again, thank you so much for this! Love you sweetie! 8)
These are so good~
Ah yes the usual quality art. How I missed it :D
Time for a sketch dump since I had a chance to scan a bunch of stuff today!
Just a musculature study using the pose off my Speed Racer shirt. Yay, drawing with a reference that is upside down...
These two were drawn late at night, hence why the one on the left has a huge head. They were mostly costume designs, some musculature, and linework exercises.
Ah, the ladies... The one on the left was a facial study for the girl in After the Raid. The one on the right used to have bare boobies, but I covered them up in case these end up going with me to a possible artist-in-residence stint. Gotta keep some sketches PG-13 at least.
Some more women facial studies.
And more women facial studies.
Another foreshortening exercise, with the proper way to hold a gun, so for future reference Zuckuss won't be wondering how dirt got in the inside of the scope.
That's it for now til I go on another scanning spree.
You know, the top one looks kinda familiar! 8D
Also, the 2nd top one kinda reminds me of Magistrate!
Is that second one from the bottom Carrie Fisher? I definitely get that vibe.
Nah, just a woman with a similar facial build. She was originally modeled after Bridgitte Kahn.

Holy mama Alien!
And all of that is from duct tape?
OH NOES!! ALIEN!
Looks great though, Quickie! ^.^
Newspaper and duck tape, yep. The teeth are also newspaper and duck tape and were individually set. We still have quite a bit of work to do on this.
Posted on: August 23, 2010, 05:14:42 AM
Just some musculature studies today. I'm concentrating more on the Xenomorph costume lately, rather than cranking out sketches. I have a two-week time limit to build this thing.
Anywho, the sketches.
Two female and one male musculature study with DAT ASS.
Just a musculature study of a character.
That's it for now until I scan some more.
The male looks like he's stretching after waking up from a night of hot sex.
You only know what that looks like because you have a mirror to watch yourself do that. :P
Quick, your art is amazing! O.O
Got a lil bit more done on the Xenomorph today as well. The torso can now hold its shape while I work on it and I started on the sternum detailing. I plan to tackle a problem with the head tomorrow.
He is made entirely outta newspaper and duck tape. No expensive materials here, folks.
It's coming along fantastic so far.
Does quickie still take requests are do I have to pay? 8D
I'm pretty sure she still takes requests, yes.
Heh, although I'm curious as to how you'd "pay" her! 8D

Gum? >w<
I believe she likes gum! XD
Requests will need to wait until after this costume is done. We have one more week to work on this bugger and with Ringman working, progress during the week is slow as alotta it requires more than one person to work on it. We still need to make a run up to our mom's to pick up the tail from the old costume.
Anywho, some progress I made today: Finished the sternum detailing and extended the shoulders.
Posted on: August 26, 2010, 11:55:47 PM
Got a bit more done with the costume today. Mainly added the four big spines to the back.
Here's a shot of just the head and chest.
And a crappy pic of me in it.
Aliens don't wear pants. Why are your pants on? 8D
I'll ditch the pants once I make the codpiece. XD
Sounds like a plan!
Otherwise it's coming along nicely!
I've had this scanned in for a while now. Just a shading exercise that I may do something with someday.
I plan to scan in some more sketches tomorrow.
I'd say the exercise was a success.
I hope you never stop drawing, because this is marvelous.
Even your exercises and scraps look better than 90% of art I see a day
Her scraps are golds to the eyes of us commoners. XD
Sketch dump time, since I scanned some things.

Some female facial studies.
Because Catholic schoolgirls tend to be a crowd-pleaser.
And for no real reason, here's a duck tape Donald Duck mask I slapped together in an afternoon at a local magazine publisher.

A few designs for a pumpkin I'm gonna paint. Since the first pumpkin I plan to paint is intended to be a sacrifice to the Neighbourhood Gods, then I may use the third design. Save the other two for pumpkins that won't get smashed or stolen.

I hope all of those pumpkins wind up painted. LoL, and ahhhhh Ponda!

and I love them scary pumpkin face you made last year too. (or was it 2 years ago?)
I think it was last year, I forget. Anywho, here's the pumpkin I painted today.

Dengar as a ranger? Yep. And he can't hit anything with those arrows. I'm hoping that at level five, they start to become somewhat competent...
I doubt they do. XD
Heh, I'll prolly need to wait til level ten. They're starting to hit stuff at level 3 now, so there's some hope for these losers. Dengar, though... he needs to equip a new and better weapon.
Dengar: Duh, where's da trigger on dis thing?
Posted on: October 16, 2010, 08:17:46 AM
(http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/1581/greedothiefsketch.jpg)
Greedo the thief. Oh, he may look like he knows what he's doing, but I can assure you, he does not. He's no better with his secondary weapon, either. From the game, during battle:
"Greedo fumbles with dirk."
Greedo, has, though, successfully picked two locks and disarmed two traps and killed at least low level rats.
4-LOM the bard. From the start, I knew he was gonna have a hat with a big plume on it. The rest of the costume was a bit fuzzy, though once I started costuming him, I just said, "What the hell? Protocol droids tend to be a bit flamboyant, let's have some fun!"
Of the party, 4-LOM and Zuckuss are the only ones holding their own in battle. They're actually competent!
IG-88 the fighter. I'll be honest, I'm still not sure what I wanna dress him in. I may toss him in Conan the Barbarian duds later, see how he looks. Or just put armor on him.
Oh, and he can't hit anything with his Sword of Striking, either.
These are pretty incredible.
Fancy clothes!
All of the sudden I this image of Greedo in a Fire Emblem game.
A bir late, but I looooove those pumpkins <3. I really like the sketches too.
There's no reason not to submit these to TeeFury.
Can't really submit the pumpkin, as it was stolen. But, I'll colour in the other sketches and submit 'em.
You may be able to send them without color, just like that. Perhaps just put them side by side.
Sketch dump time, yay!
First up, a 4 am sketch done during our Halloween party.
Behold the crappy pentagram that I obviously didn't bother to use a ruler for or make it in the proper perspective! That's what happens when you draw in the wee hours of the morning.
Next up, a half-finished group shot.
I'm gonna need to make some adjustments with a couple of the figures before I can finish it. 4-LOM and Dengar ended up being a bit too tall.
And now logo concept roughs for PB's production company.

Hey, remember that one shading exercise I said I may do something with?
I started to do something with it.
We really need a splash of blood here and there. XD
Lemme get a background in there first, then I'll start spraying blood. XD
Whatever you're doing to it, keep on doing it! 8D
Glorious pic.
And yes... Blood... Blood of the sinned...
Quickie, you do all of your colouring in Photoshop right? *tries really hard not to ask buuuut...* When you're finished with this, I'd really like to see how you achieved your results.
Yeah, I do all my colouring in Photoshop. That one was mainly an experiment. I did it like how I usually colour, only instead of just shading via large pools of colour, I dropped the brush size down to 3 pixels and treated it as if I were using my coloured pencils. No real uniform strokes, just colouring and blending mostly.
Pepan's (the Kubaz with the crowbar) colour palette was the same one I used with a coloured pencil drawing. In the coloured pencil drawing, I used some things I learned from Photoshop, like using purple to shade. So, Pepan's shading is Orchid, from a box of Prang coloured pencils. Using various shades of purple for shading produces some nice results. It may seem weird to use it, but if you look closely, there are a number of things that, in the right light, will take on a purplish cast.

*Insert random superlative here*
And, for the hell of it, here's just the background sketch that I used for the above pic. I scanned it in at 200 dpi, so if anyone needs a quick sewer/underground background and doesn't feel like drawing one, you can use this one.
Use it for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
It's just so fitting.
And how equally fitting that I was listening to the TMNT Arcade Game music while working on it. XD
Just fitting indeed.
Background banzai!
So you never actually retrace the background on PS? It's so clean.
I just scanned it in, darkened the linework by adjusting the levels, replaced any leftover blue from my non-photo blue pencil that the scanner picked up, further adjusted the levels, then made it black-and-white.
Ah, make sense. but you did inked the background first right?
Nope. That's all pencil. If the pencils are dark and clean enough, by playing with the levels (Image--> Adjustments--> Levels), you can usually play around with the sliders for Shadows, Midtones, and Highlights until you get the pencils dark enough to look like inks.
Sometimes, playing the the threshold (Image--> Adjustments--> Threshold) will sharpen up the linework, but that can also make it a bit jaggy.
Just some tips plucked from the DC Comics Guide to Digitally Creating Comics.
Whoa, so that's all pencil! I should definitely try that trick sometime. Thanks for sharing the secret. 8)
*Writes down notes*

Not much for today, just a sketch of Leia.

Well redrawing makes perfect, so they say.
Really impressive Leia.
You did a great job with the hair
Agree, hair looks delicious.
She's definitely not a committee!

Oh heey, nice Leia =O The shading is especially cool :3 My only gripe is that her left and right eyes aren't lined up =O (Her right eye is too high up, and left eye is a bit low)
Logos look awesome xD I'm not sure if I like the way you did the text in the circle though =O It's a lil' hard to figure out how to read.
Also, if you fixed the white pixels around the Crawling Eye logo it'd be perfect =w=b
The only problem is I don't have the PSD on this computer, so I'll need to wait til tomorrow to nix the lil jaggies. Missed them the first time around as I was concentrating on getting the lil eye creature up to snuff.
That's one evil looking crawling eye. XD

Ohhhhhh Quickie. Thank you soooooooo much! Words can't describe how much I love these!
Since we started RPing again, I felt like starting on some model sheets for miniatures (whenever I get some Sculpey). Here's a couple.

Of course, when I do get around to sculpting these, they'll prolly end up being simplified blobs, but I'm gonna try my darnedest. At least the paint applications will pretty them up.
Looking good! XD
Ooo... I like the first one. :3
It seems that thing is alcoholic. XD
Oh, Louie is very much a heavy drinker. XD He recalls being drunk enough to think he was a rocket ship, on more than one occasion.
And here's an ostentatious carriage I felt like sketching up early last night for no other reason than that I was waiting for my turn in the bathroom. Gastrointestinal distress sucks.

Well, I sculpted and baked the two minis yesterday, then painted them today. Then I snapped some really shitty pics and wished for a better camera. Once I can borrow a camera with a macro lens, I'll take better pics. But in the meantime, here's the figures:
They are both less than an inch in height. Louie is roughly a half an inch, not counting blade, while brown mage Zuckuss there is about three-quarters of an inch. They are half the height or smaller than a standard Mage Knight figure. And I intend to take better pictures when I can borrow a better camera.
Wow, they came out really well.
That's some amazing stuff there. I'm jealous! How did you pull this off (recommended tempature, materials, etc.)?
Even the little I can see looks nice.

Sculpey, clay carving tools, and a toothpick rammed up Zuck's ass while sculpting him. Oh, and very steady hands and lots of patience helps. As for recommended temperature... For miniatures that small, about 5 minutes at 250 degrees in a toaster oven does the trick. Just watch them to make sure they don't burn and try not to inhale the fumes.
The minute I can get a hold of a macro lens, I'm gonna take better pics.
Daww... They're so cute. :3
D: That must've been one long wait for the bathroom...I love your line, they remind me of newspaper comic sketches ='D (That's a good thing)
The sculptures look cool from what I can see I keep thinking that you're making a digital 3D model tho but you really need a macro mode on your camera ><
Man I'm so jealous of people who can sculpt D: I really wanna see them in focus!
I retook the pics as best as my shitty camera will allow. The next person to comment about how I need a better camera has volunteered to buy me one.

And I am currently working on this:
Damn that's incredible!
Lol, the first pic reminds me of M*A*S*H somehow. XD
and yes, the last pic, lovely face.
=O I <3 the way you shade and detail in b/w mediums. I've always wanted to do that, but I am either too lazy to shade my drawings or I suck. I can't tell which.
For the second image though, the form looks good but I think the colours are a bit too saturated. Especially since your style is more on the realistic side.
I may mute her hues a bit after the pic's all said and done. Though, after looking at it a few more times, I'm not happy with the shading on the face and may redo it. I'll play around with the saturation a bit, then decide if I wanna redo it or what.
Actually, what I may do is print out the linework without the colors (don't wanna smear the original) and break out my colored pencils. Been a while since I played with those.
These are beautiful, as usual, Quickie! ^.^
Got some works in progresses.
Started on the coloring.
And this unfinished pic is hanging out in my sketchbook, being worked on periodically.
The first one is coming along very nicely. The second one looks awesome as well.
Do you really need to hear me saying that you are doing a great job? Because you are.
Also on the second pic I can't tell if the guy is scared or he is saying:"That's my gun! Get out!"
So what's the story for the first pic anyway?
The first pic is simply a few Marines celebrating their former drill instructor's birthday.
Posted on: April 22, 2011, 04:13:47 AM
Made some progress on that in-progress pic, which Imageshack resized.
Yeah, this will take some time, still, and require me to purchase some more lead for my pencil. Definitely going in my portfolio when it's done, though.
As it should!
Oh, if anyone's curious... The X's in that pic? They're just there to remind me to fill it in with black. For larger pools of shadows, until the other details are worked out, I'll just put X's in them until I fill them in, keeps me from smearing my pencils. Also helpful for if I don't feel like filling them in with pencils and prefer to do so with inks or digitally.
I think you'd make a fantastic cover artist!
Oh, hey, look what I finished.
Absolutely wonderful!
And now that I'm done with that, what am I gonna do next?
I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!
...Or at least to a local 501st armor build party.

I tried one last time to take decent pics of at least one of my RPG miniatures.
My camera still sucks. So, here's a crappier pic of the minis on a set of stairs I had made years ago.
Crappy camera is crappy.
The last picture looks fine. The stairs really make the figures stand out imo.
Got some sketching done yesterday and today, including my first ever pic of Tarkin.
Then I drew Bossk with a beer.
Which then led to this:
Fun with drunken bounty hunters.
Bossk's got a Chack Dan'yuls No. 27 Corellian Whiskey (he likes it straight) while Dengar is slugging down a Korr's Lite. Trying to watch his figure.
I love the way you shade with pen so much <3
That is actually pencil, just tweaked in Photoshop to look inked (lil digital inking technique I picked up), however, the same techniques for shading are used.
Oh, it looked like ballpoint...well, pen-shading-style then! :D
Well, I do use a mechanical pencil. 0.5 mm lead Pentel. It produces a nice, smooth line with a moderate weight. Pretty much my primary choice of pencil.
Posted on: May 26, 2011, 04:09:38 AM
Just playing around with inking techniques, this time translating painted shading to ink without bogging the pic down with excess cross-hatching, the cover of Tales of the Bounty Hunters as a shading reference.
I'm hesitant to color this, as the colors might hide the inkwork.
Uwah the stippling is cool >w<
Since you already put so much effort into the shading via ink, maybe you can colour it with flats/gradients to see how that works? The detail is in the inks already so if you don't go over them with shading it won't hide the inks...I think.
I'm thinking of going that route, actually. I've been wanting to make a Zuckuss t-shirt, much like my Greedo t-shirt, so I may try some color palettes and bang out a design or two.
Posted on: June 28, 2011, 05:22:29 AM
And speaking of a t-shirt design ala my Greedo shirt...
The finalized version is currently saved on Zazzle, waiting for me to make into a shirt. :D
And now, elements of another image that I'm working on...
It figures that after I drew this darn thing that I find my protractor and proportional scale...
Helmet is a tweaked Radiation Zone Assault Trooper (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Radiation_Zone_Assault_Trooper) bucket. The lightsaber hilt and the helmet are gonna be combined with one last image element that I need to draw for the final version. It's a cover for a friend's story on SWFanon.
You should design your own Lightsaber, Quickie! Also, nice t-shirt.
Nice shirt =w=b
Thanks. I'm thinking after making my shirt, that I may post the design for sale on Zazzle.

Got a couple of fresh pics (made today! No, these are not stale!).
First ever image of Shaak Ti. Drawn in pen, no less. Not just inked, drawn in pen.
And because I was able to crank out the design in a short amount of time, a t-shirt design mock-up of Shaak Ti. The lettering was done by hand.
Yes, it's a Shaak Ti-shirt.
You should try submitting these to TeeFury.
I'll need to resize them to meet the size requirements, but what the hey? I guess I will. I got the six-colors-or-less palette pretty much figured out.

gosh quickie have i ever told you how good your sense of contrast is
Well, I now have a colored version that took me about a week to do, mainly because the image is pretty darn big.
Both this version and the black-and-white version are going in my portfolio.
That's just incredible!
In total awe.
I bring you a couple sketches!
Most of my creative time has been taken up by crocheting scarves.
A long-since-retired old Gunnery Sergeant Tuffass, attending some VGW (Veterans of Galactic Wars) function. I might color this one some day.
First ever sketch of Cad Bane.
Been awhile since you posted stuff here, huh?
Cad looks great here.
Yeah, it has been a while. Darth Real Life has been making himself quite comfortable, which tends to curtail a number of projects. Haven't really gotten much done aside from a dozen sketches and partially-finished pieces.
By the besalisk's foot, that must've been dreadful, but in the end it managed to be a continuous source of inspiration. Plus you got to draw a Clone Wars character for the first time! :3
Darth Real Life is the most powerful Sith Lord, ever.
Anywho, started coloring a pic...
Got a couple more pics. Colored some sketches, preparing a portfolio to send to Topps card company.

They're also sneaky with their submissions address, so I'll be sending my five-by-eights to their main headquarters. I'm hoping to be picked up as a Sketch Card artist. It took one artist two years to get in.
Posted on: December 07, 2011, 08:28:28 PM
Topps doesn't allow for digital coloring for their sketch cards (fine for portfolios, though), so I dug out my acrylics last night.
He's 3 x 4 inches.
Standard format? I see. Hopefully you'd get the job, so we can get a few sneak peeks of upcoming card games but this is Topps we are talking about. A common foe.
I'm after a Sketch Card gig. It won't make me rich, but it will give me the title of Official Lucasfilm Artist, which is what I'm really after. Considering some of the Sketch Card artists out there, I definitely have the chops for it and a number of current artists say to definitely do it.
I definitely think you have the talent to make it!
As one person said on TFN, if they don't hire me, it's a low-down dirty crime.
And it will further prove that Topps is a bunch of schemers and jackasses with nigh-playable TCGs. Here's hoping you'd get the pick.
Dear Topps: PLEASE have pre-constructed decks within the range of boosters, and playtest the games before selling. Thank You.
I'd love to see you draw YuGiOh cards, Quickie! 8)
Does Topps sell Yu-Gi-Oh? If they do... then I guess I'd better draw some and add them to my portfolio. I was gonna concentrate mostly on the franchises that do sketch cards (which aren't playable). Yep, only trading cards for me, I'd rather not be involved with the gaming aspect.
I don't think so. LoL, I just wanted to see you draw YuGiOh cards like my DARK MAGICIAN! 8)
That painting looks rad
I has another painting!
The canvas is 14 x 16 and thus waaaaaaaaaay too big for my scanner. I'll attempt to get a scan this weekend at Staples.
Holy [parasitic bomb] that's incredible!
Impressed me you have
Oh, and here's a goofy sketch I did while at the laundromat.
Now that I have softened the blow... That Yoda painting? He is for sale.
How much are you charging for it?
Usually for paintings.. I'd say $25.86 USD at the most. $100.00 USD (or more) if you are shooting for paintings much more to your fancy, mainly movie posters (I do belive those are hand-painted back in the day, am I correct?) and such.
I'd hope the painting finds a good home, it'd be devastating to sell your hard work to a nimrod who can't tell from a valuable peice from [parasitic bomb].
Quote from: Protoman Blues on December 13, 2011, 11:30:31 PM
How much are you charging for it?
Considering the size, and how long it took me to paint it (a week), level of detail... and from what I've seen paintings sell for (just prints of paintings), I'm not going any lower than $100. From my own research, that is the usual retail price.
Prints around here sell from $40 to $100 or more. For a
print. An original can fetch up to $200. Star Wars.Com used to sell Glicee prints and lithographs for $89-120, depending on size and print. And I've seen a Greedo sofa painting sell on eBay for $150.
Sounds reasonable to me! Best of luck sweetie!
I intend to see how much it would cost to get it framed, so that way I can have a nice presentation when I sell it. To sell it unframed would be unwise. That, and the frame will permit me to jack up the price to the one I want. ;)
Valiant idea!
In the meantime, since I am waiting for a holiday gift art exchange thread on TFN to post it... I'll just toss the pic here. This pose and layout should look familiar.
Basically, I was given the "secret Santa" request to draw Corran Horn and Mirax Terrick. Doing what? That was left up to me. I couldn't make them [tornado fang] like rabbits, since that's what they usually do, so I just drew them smooching.
And gave Mirax a nice, round ass. Jelly should like. XD
Why yes, I do recall that pose! 8)
I hope Corellian_Outrider appreciates nice ass. XD Whatever gender Corellian_Outrider is... Either way, that pose was perfect as it has something for everyone; lovey-dovey smooching for the ladies and a nice round ass for the guys.
I know Puroto Blu'zz appreciate a nice ass!
By the way, Corellian_Outrider loved the pic.
Anywho, watch out!

Context is a scene from the Shadows of the Empire comic (Go hunt down the Shadows of the Empire Omnibus for comic awesomeness and cheesy Fett dialogue!).

And here's a sketch of a fan character that I modeled after Emma Watson. A much better sketch than what I was using for her infobox image.

Still need to color it.
Wow on the fan char modelled after Emma Watson... So awesome. o:

YEP!
I haven't drawn these guys since high school! And I haven't ever drawn Amy Rose in her current outfit (no reference for this, either, so her details are a bit off).
As for the context of what Knuckles is saying? I was just goofing around.

And I awww'd at Knuckle's cookie expression. XD
This is why I love Knuckles. hehehe
seriously wondrous work as always :3
These are nice, Quickie.
And really, I know it's your decision to not use reference, but simply checking what elements make a character is kinda mandatory.
Then again, who am I to say that. : P
What's with you and Sonic recently, anyway?
Blame the awesomest Sonic 2 hack ever. And my brother, who has also been on a Sonic kick lately. It's very easy to get sucked in. :P
Anywho, have some more before we return to your regularly-scheduled programming...

Also, never have Knuckles in your beach volleyball team.
Just finished coloring this one.
But first, a little back story... Cal Omas (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Cal_Omas) is an EU character that everyone is chomping at the bit for a picture of. We're hoping he gets a pic in the Essential Reader's Companion. So, in the meantime, we've been making jokes about he'll never get a pic, or we'll only see the back of his head, or he'll be at a masquerade ball, dressed as a stormtrooper, etc. Essentially, we'll never get to see his face.
So, I drew Cal Omas.
Enjoy.
Reminds me of Dr. Claw! XD
I expect that was the intent?
Don't recognize the fuzzy little critter, though.
It's a small nexu rubbing its face against Cal's hand, like cats often do.

Oh that just gave me a fantastic shirt idea?
I finally saw Avengers (I missed it in theaters due to being poor at the time), and is it just me, or is Sam Jackson really lame in it? It's not his fault, it's just that his lines were so cheesy. But then again, he could've just been really overshadowed by everyone else.

At least Knuckles is wise in that respect.
He's also doing a lot more than the other Echidnas. He's like the Batman of Echidnas, he has to have some special equipment. Like shovel gloves. And a rebreather. Didn't he have sunglasses or something as a power-up too?
Yep. Knuckles carried around a lot of junk.

Call yourself [shadow runner] Jim. I heard it's all the rage in literature.
Nah, I'll stick with my professional handle that I use on Failbook.

That be the one. It will look great on a business card.
Sounds so sophisicated...
Still, awesome news Quickie! :3
Well, since Topps is releasing their latest sketch card set this month, I prolly won't hear back from them until the development of another set, which could be a couple months or more. In the meantime, I was told to send them stuff once a month to let them know that I'm still interested.
And until then, have some sketches.

Very very nice. 8D
Hopefully you hear from them soon.
Just something for an EU project on TFN.
It's some kind of awesome! XD
Has anyone ever told you that you draw really, really well?
Because they ought to.
Well, Topps did and they asked if I wanna draw for monies. :D
Dude. o_o And to think, we knew you back before you were awesomely famous. X3
The process is still ongoing and it's not gonna pay a lot (I'd get a buck or so a card, and I'd be drawing 100 cards, plus six returns), but it's a start. They've released a new set this month, so I won't hear back for about a couple months. In the meantime, I'm still beefing up my portfolio and I'll be sending art samples once a month.
This will get my foot in the door, and will allow me better access to larger projects.
Yes. *claps* Exactly. That's the perfect, perfect attitude to have, Q-chan. So it may not pay a bundle. But if it can open doors to various other things, then it's totally worth the effort!
It's definitely a start. You should try for Book Covers as well!

And the mockup:

I am interested to see what comes of this.
Isn't that a Beatles album cover? I know I've seen that specific design before. Usually in parody or tribute.
Queen album cover, actually.
Dammit. I knew it was something along those lines. T_T

Got some sketches. Practicing with character likenesses. I find Luke's likeness a bit easier to nail down than Han's, though I still need to iron out all the kinks.
Luke didn't turn out too bad. Some issues with the mouth and jawline, but I'll hammer those out in other images.
Han turned out awful. The only thing that's good about this image is the linework. I referenced from a tiny Indiana Jones image and three photos of Han. It still fell flat.
This one turned out a bit better. Referenced from an Adam Hughes rendition and two photos of Han. His trollface amuses me. He still needs considerable work before he gets to a point where I'll be satisfied.
Luke looks really nice, though yeah, Han really needs quite a bit of work.
Han's trollface is hilarious though.
not bad, not bad :D
You should draw people you know. Just to scare the hell out of 'em. "That's what I look like?! ... Damn, I need a shave."
I'm so sorry.

I figured that someone would find a use for trollface Han. I should draw more of him!

Have some Batman sketches.
I was drawing the Joker for some variety and he ended up looking like some bizarre caricature of Vincent Price, so I just went with it.
While drawing Batman, I noticed how he somewhat resembled Daredevil, so I altered the sketch to be Daredevil. Just for the hell of it.
Maybe it's because the way he was designed, and how the bat is often associated with the devil.
It's simple...we draw the Batman! 8D
Awesome!
Did I mention that I haven't drawn Batman since high school? 8D
You should draw more DC characters! 8D
Man that Batman looks awesome, and not too broody.
This one's been sitting on my to-do list for a while, and I was working on it off and on. Thanks to glitchy Internet last night, I was able to sit down and get some work done on it, and then I finished it a few minutes ago.
Very lovely. Who is she? Can I have her? 8D
She's a psychiatrist whose look was based off of Emma Watson. She's single. ;)
MINE! XD
How goes the rest of the to do list? Am I on that list? 8B
Slowly and somewhere. I have a lot of unfinished projects sitting around.
Heehee, I meant me personally being on the "to do" list. Emphasis on the do! 8D
I added a surface blur to her face and neck to blend the shading a bit better, and redid the gradient.
Also, her shirt seems wet to me. XD
Holy god damn, Quickie. Your art never ceases to amaze me. ._.
Then again, you're trying to make a living of it, so it should be no surprise you're just going to keep getting better and better at it.
I don't know, the facial proportions feel a little off...
EDIT: On messing around a bit in paint.net, I think the nose and eyes are maybe a centimeter too low?
Eh... I like her the way she is. I didn't intend to draw Emma Watson, only model a character's looks after her. My reference photo of Emma was clearly too young, so I aged her a bit.
Oh, I didn't mean that it'd look closer to Emma, just in general.
Drew this up for a Christmas card to send to my grandpa.
First time drawing Threepio and Artoo since, well... since ever. And I must have been feeling ambitious, as the linework is entirely ink.
This is insanely good. I'm sure your grandpa will love it.

YAAAAAY. WEDGE!!
I'm using slightly-mixed media for these cards. The only thing I do to them in Photoshop (now Paint.NET) is adjust the levels and color balance (even though they're black-and-white). The pics are penciled and inked on Bristol board cards, and shaded with brush pens (a fancy name for markers). I use acrylic paint for the highlights. Entirely traditional media for these.
Something about Betghor Sahdett BUGS me.
*Shot for horrible pun*
But seriously, I am digging it.
I really like the detail on Poggle, rather impressive.
I can't stop drawing these things!

Your 4LOM and Zuckuss drawings are pretty cool
Thanks. I ended up taking a break from sketch cards for a bit, but now I'm back working on them. I started on Tarkin while sick with strep, and he came out a bit young looking.
Though, this unintentional young Tarkin ended up having a better likeness than RotS young Tarkin!

On TFN, we're doing a weekly sketch jam, in which we're given a subject to draw each week. Yoda was this week's subject, so I drew a sketch card of Yoda. Now, when I went to post it, I find that TFN's crappy forum software sucks.
Hmmmm, too much like Prequel Yoda for my tastes! XD
That's because he is Prequel Yoda. :P I liked the lighting of that scene, and went overboard with the stippling, which aged him a bit.
Fair enough. Prequel Yoda just reminds me how dumb Prequel Yoda is in those movies! XD
There seemed to be a stupid virus going around back then.
I can tell you're getting tired doing these. I hate to nitpick, ;^; but 4-Lom's hand looks like its way to small in comparison to the body. Boba Fett's helmet appears that it had a blind date with a trash compactor (its too squished), and Dengar's face looks like an orc had sex with a gorilla. On the other side, I love you're Vader, Tarkin and Yoda. They look fantastic! Zuckuss looks great as usual, and I can't really complain about Bossk. And don't anyone jump on me for what I said, because I can easily point out WAY more things wrong with my own artwork.
Haha, true. Yeah, I'm not too satisfied with 4-LOM or Fett. Dengar was just a pain in the ass, and that angle never looks right. And I can point out a ton more things wrong with the other ones, too! But, yeah, 4-LOM, Dengar, and Fett were drawn when my wrist was giving me a lot of trouble.

Here's a sketch card of Ooryl Qrygg, the delightfully-naive Gand X-wing pilot from Michael Stackpole's X-Wing novels. I have a kit-bashing project planned for him. Got an extra Zuckuss figure, I just need to get me an X-wing pilot Luke figure.

Since I had the figure on my drafting table while reposing it for display, I decided that it was high time I break out my gouache paints and give them a try!
Just finished the grayscale shading, so there's my setup. I needed to wait for the paint to dry a bit, as gouache is very water-soluble.
The grayscale.
Even after the paint had dried, when I applied the color wash, it mixed the grays around. That's how I learned just how water-soluble gouache is. It's like painting with thick watercolors.
The finished piece. For now, at least. I may apply more touchups later, but it's done for now. Media used: gouache on an acrylic wash.
I'm liking the gouache. For my next project, I plan to use it, perhaps do a mixed-media, as I like how acrylics aren't as water-soluble, and since I layer my paint, it's better that the medium doesn't dissolve the layer beneath it. But, for a quick experiment, I like the results, and it gave me some experience with using gouache.
Oh my.... that's [tornado fang]ing amazing! You're [tornado fang]ing amazing! 0v0

Tacky is not a word I would use, the colours are very vibrant, I like it.
I meant the paint feels sticky. :P
Thanks. It was a labor of love chronicled in the Pokemon thread, from background to final piece. If I paint on masonite again, though, I'm sanding the surface down. Sometimes, a surface can be too smooth to use.

I love the comics. I hope you continue that! And everything else is amazing as always. Nice shot of Hawkeye's crotch. 8D
I reeeally like that forest background. That came out super well.
And of course, everything else is wonderfully detailed, as usual!
So, Ringman colored one of the comics today...
Looks really good in colour, that uh---must have hurt.
Great job with the coloring!
Ringman does good quick coloring, so he's now my go-to for quick colors. He has a few tricks he uses to make things quicker.
You know, it feels really good to relax my style and just draw mindless cartoons.

Haha, those comics were great for a laugh.

Got bored.
*runs for dear life*
You are much more productive when you're bored than when I am bored
Why am I imagining Foxy bursting into a rendition of "Hooked On a Feeling" when I look at this? >0<
Very nice work.
