I totally stole this from a thread I read over on an elitist circlejerk forum that I love too much.
In any Megaman game do the following:
- Beat any Megaman game only using the weapon of the robot master you just killed. (the first robot master you pick(and the intro stage) are exempt from this for obvious reasons.)
- in fortress stages(excluding the boss refight chamber) pick one (and only one) weapon per stage.
- Rush is only to be used when absolutely necessary.
- Rock/X only.
There's also a lighter variant that's just simply no buster allowed, aka, the sane way of attempting this with 7.
Great. I'll try to defeat the BooBeam Trap with Leaf Shield only.
You must be talking about the MM7 Challenge that Hideofbeast recently finisihed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPkAg4lnMqg). Quite an interesting watch, really.

Him and like, seven other goons, yeah. (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3414985)
"Buster only" isn't a challenge. It's the natural way to play.

Gotta agree...most of the time I forget that I have OTHER weapons at disposal.
..no really, I am that forgetfull.
I'm too busy shooting stuff to stop and think about what weapons I could be using instead, and since the games are designed for buster-only to be POSSIBLE I never get shaken out of that state.

Hmmmmm, I might try this.
This is why I think all Classic/X games should let you use the buster alongside whatever weapon you have equipped, like they do in MM8 and the X games from X4 onward. Thing is while I'd love to experiment with other weapons, shutting off my buster is a high price to pay, because it's not something that I want to have unavailable at the wrong moment. Besides, it also lets you trek around in a different color scheme, which can be a nice change of pace.
If I don't play a buster-only run, the only time I really use the weapons are against bosses. A few exceptions here and there.
Minimalist challenges are not minimally challenging.

No stealing! *Hits the back of your hand with a paper fan*
This is interesting. I am a fan of buster only runs, but I feel if you have the charge shot in your chosen game, you should use it, otherwise it just delays the inevitable. But this is interesting as well. Hideofbeast and Meccaprime are the only two that come to mind that have done something like this. I'd definately like to see more of this type of challenge.
