Title: TGS 2010 THREAD
Post by: HokutoNoBen on September 14, 2010, 09:32:46 PM
Well, it really looks like those rumors that were pointing to Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, Enslaved) making DMC5 are slowly, but surely, coming to a head.

Quote from: Wolf Akela on GAF
Ninja Theory bragged about a top-secret project.

GameInformer posts it as a rumor (a good number of their rumors became true).

Capcom's Facebook page says they'll announce 4 new games at TGS.

Ninja Theory just said they'll reveal a new game at TGS.

Inafune said DMC5 is going to have a "western touch".

Capcom was and is outsourcing to western devs.

DMC4 is over 2 years old.

Just put those things together. I'd be very surprised if the announcement wasn't about DMC5.

We even got what seems to be copyright information now:
http://www.siliconera.com/2010/09/14/dmc-trademark-hints-at-new-devil-may-cry-game/

I dunno what would possess Capcom to do such a thing like this, but unless Ninja Theory gets to have access to MT Framework (which was the same engine that DMC4 is based on)? I'm not exactly holding high hopes for this project. The mere mention of UE and sub-30 FPS will be enough to send me running for the hills! 8D

I would if I could. It's sounding like more and more like he's just getting a little bit of a jolly out of trolling us with what we want to see, but he and his team are "too busy to make a sequel" at this time.

SOME DAY!  8D

I'm not. I'm expecting a downer but remain optimistic. As it stands, this is still just a rumor.

That's the thing! We're NOT excited. We're basically expecting a fairly mediocre developer to be the ruination of a brand that, by and large, has delivered on basically solid games (DMC2 and the issues with DMC4 not-withstanding).

It's not even like the case with CV: LoS, where the outsourced Western developer may have a chance to do more to clean up after the "mess" that the in-house development made.  8D

Ah. Still, although Ninja Theory didn't make big splashes, their last two games were solid, at least (Kung Fu Chaos was pretty damn fun) and their upcoming game seems really, really good so far (escaping the usual brown-ish war games and giving us a game full of color and greenery, but still tons of good ol' western-style action? Awesome).

So I think them giving us a new DMC game would be interesting, to say the least. They would have to keep the gameplay mode and not change it like DMC2 did, but still...

What's funny about the DMC4 issues, is that the solid game WAS THERE. Inside the damn disc. They'd just had to take out "no-new-weapons-dramatic-clone" and give us Dante back for the full game, plus funnier story. There are a few bosses I'd really like to have played with Dante.

lol thread title change.

5:55 They are making a new Devil May Cry -- called "DMC"
5:55 The game shows a young man changed up in what looks like is a mental institution
5:56 a voice asks
5:56 What is your name over and over again
5:56 the same guy, cleaned up and wearing a spiffy Devil May Cry suit
5:57 is smoking a cigarette, which he puts out on a baddie's face
5:57 he fires dual pistols, spins and shoot
5:57 bad ass
5:57 the voice asks again: "what is your name?"
5:58 back to the young man chained up -- a robotic sphere with a glowing red eye looks at him
5:58 and the young man, cleaned up and cool, is taking down baddies
5:58 and the voice says "I'm going to ask you again, what is your name?"
5:59 and the young man goes "My name is Dante" and then jumps through the air
5:59 "DMC" flashes on the screen
5:59 the trailer obviously shows a younger -- maybe more rebellious dante
6:00 the game is being developed by ninja theory

how can they mess up dante so much
DMC3 already featured younger Dante probably only a few years after the events of the Novel
and Dante always had white hair
if they want to feature younger dante they should have used the Novel settings

Bayonetta proved to me that a creator knows best. And DMC had just been an expansion of the first game in 3, and a bad evolution in the limiting way in 4. 2 doesn't really exist, to be honest.

Meaning, Capcom's just digging the hole deeper and deeper with this thing.

To me, the damage is already done. Even if they do make a change, a lot of people are still going to be pissed that Ninja Theory is making this, and have it at sub-30 FPS on UE. As it is right now, Capcom's already got the Japanese fanbase calling this a kusoge (literally "[parasitic bomb] game"), just by the mere NOTION that it's being outsourced.

They've really done it this time.  X(

On the other hand, Asura's Wrath looks interesting. Minimize, or otherwise outright nix the QTEs, and this could be a nice God Hand right here.

For right now though, pretty much Ryu ga Gotoku OF THE END is the only game that really has me interested. Yakuza vs. Zombies. Nagoshi is either going to do the most awesome thing ever, or spectacularly fail. But I'm actually interested in this!  8D

But seriously, from what it sounds like, Capcom Plans to Buy Blue Castle. They will turn into Capcom Games Vancouver, according to one of their news headlines. Honestly I liked Capcom alone, but whatever they want to do, as long as they don't fudge up ALL of their game series as bad as they did with DMC. Though I'm not a fan of DMC so it doesn't affect me as much. But if games like SF, MegaMan become as crappy as their new upcoming DMC 5 games, well they can probably kiss themselves goodbye.

I just hope they can make a good action-based game, since they pretty much plan to change the gameplay this time 'round. Yakuza games have ran on the same kind of system for years. I hope this ends up good.

While DMC seems to be suffering, this one looks really nifty:

Developed by CyberConnect2? No wonder the music sounds like it was ripped right from the Ultimate Ninja Naruto games. Looks like good "dumb fun", and that BUDDHAFROMOUTURSPAEC looks all too epic.

I just hope they can make a good action-based game, since they pretty much plan to change the gameplay this time 'round. Yakuza games have ran on the same kind of system for years. I hope this ends up good.

Kenzan! is still probably my favorite game in the series, because it did a lot to change things up from the previous two games. Gave Kiryuu/Musashi more access to different fighting styles/sword-styles, while still keeping it fairly close to the same battle engine. The result was probably the most robust version of the RGG fighting engine until RGG4 came along.

Thus far, OF THE END promises to still do a lot to adhere to what we know already. There will still be "random encounters" and hostess clubs to go around, even in the midst of a ZOMBIE OUTBREAK.

But in any case, we shall see. Sega's show isn't for another few hours. REALLY hoping that they'll surprise with Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown for PS3/360 while they're at it. And what in the world is Terada (SRW producer) doing hanging around with the Virtual ON Force producer...?

Dissidia 2 news:

-Assist characters confirmed: a backup character (don't know if it's assigned or you choose) can deal a finisher.
-Lightning and Cain reconfirmed, Tifa Lockhart announced as new playable and the third FF7 representative.
-All character will have three costumes with additionals coming in via DLC (Ex. Cloud has FF7 look, ACC look, Shinra uniform from Crisis Core, and by DLC, his Kingdom Hearts look)
--Because Aya Brea has Lightning's uniform unlockable in The Third Birthday, Lightning is getting Aya's outfit as an alternate costume.
- Every character from the original will return (Firion, Squall, Cloud, Zidane, Kuja, Sephiroth, Terra, Tidus and Onion Knight should also appear in the demo, alongside WoL, Lightning and Kain, but some are assist, read below)
- There is a Story Mode (but it's still secret, I think?)
- Every stage from the original will return
- I guess the BGMs from the original are there too
- Dissidia save file can be imported (no idea on what can be imported. My theory: full savegame unlocks all the characters, stages and music from the original, and maybe you keep the items)
- Summons should return too
- It will have many new characters, music, stages and summons
- Some new gameplay feature they will not announce now
- Lightning has Paradigm Shifts. Changing Paradigm changes attacks and fighting style (Attacker/Blaster/Healer [Commando/Ravager/Medic])
- FFXIII's stage is Orphan's Cradle
- Kain Ex-Mode is Holy Dragon from After Years
- It's possible for four characters to be on the arena, it doesn't look like four player support is happening.
- Tag Mode a rumored game mode
- Using assists is easy. Down + L and Circle depletes your assist gauge by 1 (the yellow bar under HP) and makes the ally do a Brave attack. L plus Square depletes your assist gauge by 2 and makes the ally do an HP attack.
- Game is faster
- More than 9999 HP, meaning one hit kills may no longer infest high level combat play.

This saddens me because, even if he's a comparatively carbon-copy of Cloud, we lose a good character in Zack and, by proxy, the chances of better hand-to-hand brawlers like Sabin and Zell go down the tubes.

Oh boy, with her, Cloud and Sephiroth all in, get ready to hear endless harping about friendship and light to make Cloud not emo.

So release shitty games instead is their status "quota"? If you were a fan of Megaman in general, you wouldn't approve of this BS.

It's because of craptacular ideas like this that Capcom WON'T release a good RPG. Remember Command Missions? Want to see a CM2? Maybe you should lose your shitty attitude towards Legends 3 and look at the grander picture.

In short, I don't like your attitude.

I think I can post this here as well. It's regarding FF Versus and Agito. They've been shown in a closed theatre and I don't think we'll get to see them, but here are a few impressions from people who saw the footage:

[spoiler]
DISSIDIA 012 [DUODECIM]: FINAL FANTASY
08:37p: Tifa Lockhart is the third newest Dissidia Duodecim character being revealed at TGS. (11:10p: We've now had multiple sources confirm this, so we're calling it true.) [Source]
09:04p: Booth where Dissidia Duodecim will be displayed. (View.) [Kotaku]
09:51p: Lightning and Kain Highwind screenshots from Dissidia Duodecim. (View.) [AndriaSang]
10:19p: Another shot of the Square-Enix booth, Dissidia Duodecim on the left-hand side. (View.)
10:50p: Cloud Strife's third alternate outfit in Duodecim is his ShinRa grunt uniform.
10:51p: Cloud's outfit changes slightly in event scenes, also the Assist System will allow the other character to take a finishing blow in place of the main character fighting.
10:53p: Dissidia Duodecim will release Spring 2011 in Japan.
11:55p: Dissidia Duodecim trailer being shown, Celes from Final Fantasy VI was spotted! (It was Cecil. 1up, learn your FF characters! ;p) Also Kingdom Hearts outfit for Cloud as downloadable content. [Source.]
01:10a: Cam footage of Warrior of Light taking on Squall! [And yes this is Duodecim, GameVideos is wrong.] Looks like he's got some new moves! Check it out below!
01:31a: While the trailer for Dissidia Duodecim has yet to surface (and it was blocked on the Sony press conference) we have a translation available from Famitsu who was there to witness the trailer! "As with the previous game, the narrator describes a world where the two gods Cosmos and Chaos fight. There is a scene where the new fighter Lightning goes against the Warrior of Light, as well as a scene where Kain attacks Bartz, as well as other interesting scenes. A scene with Kuja talking to Zidane, and another with Cloud and Kuja having a conversation. Are they on different sides than they were in the first game? Or is it because they've lost their memories? Also, Cecil and the Onion Knight are talking on what looks like an airship, and Cloud wears a new costume. You can also see the Emperor and Golbez, as well as Kefka among other characters from the previous game. At the end you can see Tifa say to Sephiroth 'Who are you?'" [Source.]
01:53a: Kain gameplay video! Check it you below!
02:06a: Since Aya Brea gets a Lightning costume in The 3rd Birthday, I guess it would be fair to... (View pic!)
03:05a: And here's Cloud in his Kingdom Hearts garb. (View pic!)

FINAL FANTASY VERSUS XIII + FINAL FANTASY AGITO XIII
08:38p: Footage of Final Fantasy Versus XIII is being shown on the floor, it looks similar to Kingdom Hearts.
08:38p: The car that Noctis rides in has been changed from before.
09:28p: Apparently, a press conference concerning the Fabula Nova Crystallis series (Versus/Agito), will happen on January 11, 2011. [Thanks, Lissar!]
10:46p: Agito XIII footage shown of characters riding on chocobos on a large field. [Source]
10:46p: Versus XIII footage shows Noctis running around a wasteland, and he comes to a ruined city and fights a Behemoth. [Source]
11:17p: "The field in Versus is beautiful, and there was even a scene with him jumping of a cliff. In the fighting scene Noct was walking around and a Behemoth appeared in front of him. He pulled out his sword and sliced it. The action was seamless." [Source.]
11:21p: "Agito was too short. Mostly fighting. There are now people wearing red school uniforms that are different from what we've seen before. You can probably change characters' costumes." [Source.]
01:41a: We have a summary of the Agito XIII footage shown as well from Famitsu: "In Agito, the Byakko Army is marching (they have a tiger, so this is probably who it is.) They seem to be going to war. A spider-legged war machine clings to the wall of a building, and you can see the character(s?) you control on the ground casting magic, giving you the impression of both technology and fantasy. In battle they show the status bars of three characters at a time, and it shows that you can cast Fire or Wall with different button presses, like in the last trailer. You can also see a chocobo running across a field." [Source.]
01:46a: And in Versus the scene that was shown during E3'10 with the main character Noctis fighting a Behemoth is now revealed in movie form. The battle is played out on a road that looks like Shinjuku, and the quality is so high that it makes you wonder if you'll actually be able to control this battle. The blood spurting from the Behemoth and Noctis's movements are very fantastic and yet realistic at the same time. In battle it looks as though Noctis disappears for a moment (but it was too fast and the details are as yet unknown.)

I'm not suprised either, but then again, it's a game for the fanboys, let's leave Dissadia to turn into another FF7-fest. :\

What I mean is, an origional RPG, we haven't had one of those non-branded RPGs in awhile. Plus I'm sick of the constant moaning and whining about something that'll be announced after Duke Nukem Forever gets released.

I hate you, I really do. Do you have any patriotism towards Megaman at all? There are original RPGs being released all the time, look at The Last Story for example.

[tornado fang] it, VC3 was announced and Tron Bonne is in MVC3... no matter how [tornado fang]ing useless some people are, atleast there's that.

And while I think Flash is smoking the good [parasitic bomb] again about TGS being boring this year, Panzer Dragoon ftw, bitches. And I highly doubt Dissidia is gonna be a brew pot for FFVII. Give it some credit as it is a Fanbase oriented game for the ENTIRE Fanbase.

God, some people miss the point in everything.

He probably wants a traditional JRPG instead of a new original experience.

And it IS being boring. I already hyped Panzer Dragoon, but nobody's interested and since it's gonna be a Kinect game, nobody who matters is gonna get it anyway. And Dissidia Dewey Decimal is probably just gonna be an expansion of the last one.

Dissidia is fine the way it is, give me a buncha add ons and call it a game. Yeah, it's that easy to sale to someone who HATES stuff like that. But well, I found everything to be rather interesting. I guess it helps that I don't care about how these things are run and only want the information.

Not really TGS related, but i decided to post this here and not make a new topic for it.

Quote from: Netherrealm Studios executive producer"We're not launching day one on all consoles like that. We are looking at them; we have a PSP2 in the house and we're looking at the engine, like what can it support. Always a big thing for us is the performance. We're running at 60 fps, what can we do and do we have to build all the art assets over. We're definitely looking at them. PSP2 looks like it's a pretty powerful machine. We don't have a 3DS system in house yet, but we're looking to get one, and we'll certainly look at what its power is."

PSP2 possibly confirmed? Will it actually be announced at TGS? For now... *fingers crossed*

That's not what doomed it. What doomed it was paying more for less and no backwards compatibility.

Kinect could fail for the same reason. $150 for the thing is a tad pricey.

The problem is that Kinect is trying to market itself to a crowd that the Wii has a monopoly on. Kinect might get the average gamer who wants Panzer Dragoon and such, but I don't think it will ever make the kind of money they're hoping for.

I really don't want it to fail. Microsoft needs to be a healthy competitor in the motion race right now if all companies are to deliver healthy experiences.

...also, the PS Move won't work well with me. You need to be farther away from the TV than the distance allowed for me from my PC screen allows. I hope they fix this, as the Wii Remote doesn't have any trouble playing as close as this.

See, here's the problem with both Kinect & the PS Move, in my arrogant opinion, cause my opinions are NEVER humble XD...

I wouldn't mind seeing them do well either, because I always think that healthy competition is a good thing. If both the PS Move & Kinect do well, we are pretty much 95% guaranteed to see a new Wii HD console system within the next year or three.  Hell, we might be anyway, but it's more assured if they both start making a lot of money.

The reason I don't think they are going to is because like I said above, Nintendo has a monopoly on the market that Kinect & the PS Move are trying to grab. Not to mention the fact that from what I've seen, the average PS3 & 360 gamer (not saying everyone), want very little or nothing to do with Motion Controls, especially at the price that they are asking for Kinect and all the things you'll need for the PS Move, not to mention that they'll need the system. There in lies the other problem too.

The Wii was built around motion control gaming, whether the game needs it or not. It was also only $250, now $200, so even with all the other controller you needed to get, it was still a decent deal. So much so that kids were buying it for their parents & grandparents so that they could play some Wii Sports, or later Wii Fit, and so on. They built their monopoly, and now they are coming out with more games for the average gamers like us, as we saw at E3.  Getting to my point, the people who already own Wii's and who don't own 360's or PS3's are most likely not going to pay both the price for the system & the motion controls to get a somewhat similar experience.

I would say that the PS Move has more of a money making chance than Kinect, due to the Japanese market, what looks like a somewhat better line-up of games (none that I'm interested in, but still), and the fact that it actually has a controller.  Motion Control gaming works on the Wii because, while it is still a gimmick, it's a gimmick the entire system & Wii experience was built around. Kinect & the PS Move are just plain gimmicks trying to get dat Wii Moola!

Plus, with all the issues that are supposedly coming out about Kinect, like that it doesn't work well with black clothing and that the Voice Recognition thing doesn't work in Europe or in any other language besides English, Spanish, and Japanese, it's not looking good. (Please correct me if I'm wrong about these)
Title: Re: TGS 2010 THREAD
Post by: Bueno Excelente on September 17, 2010, 09:18:20 PM
The "doesn't work in Europe" is simply because they still haven't made the Voice Recognition options for EVERY SINGLE DAMN LANGUAGE every single game released in Europe needs to be translated in.

...which sucks, because that will mean that we have to wait until we can use Voice Recognition instead of them giving us English and then language patches accordingly as they come out.

What about it...
Title: Re: TGS 2010 THREAD
Post by: Bueno Excelente on September 17, 2010, 11:04:39 PM
It's being made by a British team who made a very average game, which was a ripoff of God of War, which arguably was a ripoff of DMC. It's also being completely changed from its original style in order to fit the view of what the developer thinks appeals to the youth, instead of appealing to the fans of the series, who have been buying it all of these years in the first place. It changed the main character, who was a stylish, wisecracking hero with TONS upon TONS of japanese-western outrageous comedy up his wrist, into a dark and brooding chav-looking guy, who smokes, dresses in black and has the Union Jack in his sleeve. He's also patient of some kind of mental institution of some sort.

Basically, it sucks on JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING. I have no idea what's taking them so long to simply come out, apologise, and say they're gonna make Dante the way he used to be.

Well, technically, the announcement was made at Tougeki (a fighting game tourney event happening at the same time as TGS), but close enough!

Here's a vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvL9TOUuDb8

I didn't get my VF5: FS or KOFXIII console announcements (yet...), but TAG2 is definitely a welcome addition to another Fighter I could see myself playing in a year and some change. If nothing else, it means that we'll be taking a break from the feather-brained, roided up storyline of the "mainstream" series, and all the more reason for Harada and co to focus on that which is most important...GAME PLAY. 8D

I also notice that Heihachi was definitely lookin' younger there than he has for the last few years. Guess his change of VA (forced by Daisuke Gori's death) will also make for some changes with the character himself...

...the tone of the game has still changed, as far as I can tell. Severely. And seeing as Ninja Theory have never made a good combo-based game like DMC, which requires a certain level of complexity, leads me to believe they're gonna alter the gameplay.

Or any "wow" announcement really. This year, it was all one big collective "meh" or "oh that's pretty good". Not much, specially compared to E3.

VC3 and Dissidia 2 is definitely enough for me. I could've asked for Suikoden VI or another decent RPG, but this will do nicely.

I look forward to the upcoming gaming year.

To me, the likes of Project Dark (Demon's Souls successor), RGG: OF THE END and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 were really what made the TGS/Tougeki season really worth it for me. Not to mention seeing a bit more for Tactics Ogre's remake and the Sega + P* collaboration continuing onward.  owob

Pretty much the only real tragedy I have from the show is that neither VF5: FS or KOFXIII had any console port announcements. Hopefully, that'll happen sooner rather than later...

Tho TGS 2010 is over with, I decided to post it here since there was quite the chatting on the Microsoft Kinect.

On Kotaku.com there is an article were Microsoft is trying to find a solution to Indie Developers can make Indie Kinect games as well. I found it kindda cool since Indie games can be very fun.

this was overlooked.  It seems interesting, but hard to say if it could be good or not.  I like the art direction however.

QuoteEl Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (エルシャダイ ~アセンション オブ ザ メタトロン~, Eru Shadai: Asenshun obu za Metatoron?) is an action video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles. It is developed and published by Ignition Entertainment. The development is led by Takeyasu Sawaki, whose artistic talents were used in Devil May Cry and Okami.[1]

It's bound to be good.
