It's time for some science!
According to Peridot, she is durable and doesn't poof easily. Peridot gemstones are durable and hard, however they can be scratched on the surface. So, after that romp in the Beta Kindergarten, Peridot would be reasonably scratched up, but otherwise intact.
Peridot gemstones, however, have a brittle tenacity. They cannot handle stress or tension settings and will burst. When setting a peridot in a ring, you don't want to put too much stress on the stone. Peridot can be poofed by either squeezing or pulling her body, which applies that high tension stress and causes her to burst.
So, even though we've seen many times Peridot get crushed, thrown around, dropped from great heights, punched, and smashed in the ground and barely bat an eye, it's when there's stress applied to her body that hurts her. Garnet squeezed her and she poofed. When Steven and Amethyst were pulling on her, she almost poofed because she's too brittle to handle tension.
So, the cartoon logic makes sense for Peridot.
