Am I going insane or is Marvel Comics (not the movies) been declining in quality for the past few years?
I mean, they essentially relaunch their comics with #1s every year with variants for a temporary sales boost. Even when they keep the same creators on the title, which is especially egregious in the case of Amazing Spider-Man and Jane Foster. Then there is the glut of cross overs, I'm talking Avengers vs. X-Men, Original Sin, Axis, and Secret Wars. So many upheavals that I cannot bother get invested anymore. For pity's sake, part of the impetus behind Avengers vs. X-Men was to bring mutants back from the brink of extinction and barely three years passed, now they are back to the brink in Extraordinary X-Men.
*Slow clap* Really, congratulations Marvel. As petty and vindictive as it sounds, I want your comics line to crash and burn now that you are saturating the market with god knows how many Spider-Man, Avengers, and (god help me) Inhumans titles. I mean, I have my issues with DC after the "New 52" and the extremely lacklustre Convergence, but really you are taking it to a whole new level.
Seriously, the last Marvel titles I gave a [tornado fang] about were Scarlet Spider and New Warriors. The movies are still fine, for the most part. In a broader sense, the media I find the superhero genre enjoyable in are not in their native medium. CW's The Flash gets me excited every week while the comic book has me going, "Meh."
Sometimes I think the $5.66 (damn exchange rate) on one new comic would be better spent on two and a half second-hand comics I can buy at the Sunnyside Community Centre every month. Am I going nuts?
