Not sure where you went where people were raving about it. For me, I've heard nothing but mixed reactions. The game is alright, I'd rate it a 7/10.

The mastermind reveal and the OST are the best parts, but everything else could have been done better. Much better.

Most of all, I wish it wasn't "Let's Kill Anime Tropes: The Game".

Now, I hear that Danganronpa 2 is supposed to be much better, story-wise, so I'll have to see for myself.

The thing is, rather than hearing constant praise, all I see are comparisons to Ace Attorney, which then spawn arguments over which series is better.

Perhaps I haven't been going to the right places, but that's basically all I see. I know much of the Youtube comments are like that. Hell, that's what got me interested in the first place, otherwise I wouldn't have placed the game on my top priority list.

The Zero Escape fandom occasionally makes crossovers with the Danganronpa-verse, too. Strangely, though, I've yet to see a cross with Ace Attorney.

All I know is that I hate dark, edgy, depressing stuff with ugly "alternative" art styles and Danganronpa fits that bill exactly.
No offense, of course.

Good to hear. I just have this friend who idolizes it as the best game/anime of our time and just hearing it sorta triggers me like a tumblrina.

It's a good game and I recommend it myself, but it does have its problems and certainly not the best game ever. I would still recommend trying it at the very least for how disturbing it can be.

Honestly Hypno is full of creepy pasta, then again there's a lot more Pokemon I find creepier than Hypno.

Dangan and 999 is the furthest I'll go, in terms of disturbing game content.

Corpse Party, though? Nope. Never playing those games. Hell, I absolutely refuse to watch/play Higurashi, because I've seen a few clips, and whoever created that series needs Jesus.
