Finished the Dexter series finale.
... What the [tornado fang] was that?
I mean, it wasn't an
awful ending, but it wasn't good either. Mediocre at the very best. The last few minutes of the series felt really rushed, like they wanted the show to end ages ago (and it probably should have). Heck, it was almost as if the creator trolled his viewers with that ending.
[spoiler=HUGE Dexter spoilers]I do appreciate how they had the balls to kill off Debra, even more so by the hands of her own brother. He ended her suffering. I'm guessing that's their way of saying that karma caught up to the both of them.
What I find puzzling is that Dexter didn't kill himself afterwards. He left his son and girlfriend, he lost his wife and mother, his father died because of him, and now he lost his sister. He has no more connections. Any normal person would've committed suicide after all of that. Even though he's a murderer, and he's not exactly what you'd qualify as "normal", he's already shown to have large emotional connections with certain people. Emotion is what kills you.
It also kinda pissed me off that he never cried during the entire series. He's a serial killer, therefor his brain doesn't process emotions in a way that a normal person does, but I still find it hard to believe that he could love his wife and sister, but not shed a single [tornado fang]ing tear. He's disturbed, but not as cut off from emotions as other killers, thanks to Harry's code. In Dexter's own words, "I'm a different kind of monster."
One last complaint would be Dexter not killing Dr. Vogel's son. I mean, what the actual [tornado fang]? He didn't kill him because he "no longer feels the urge to kill"? You've murdered a fuckton of people, but you're going to let this serial killer slide because you don't feel like it? Not to mention he killed your last link to Harry's memory. That's bullshit if I've ever seen it.
Anyway, rant aside, I think he should've killed himself along with Debra. Now he has to live with all that regret in his heart, as most deaths close to him were his fault. The whole thing just doesn't make sense.
Vogel: Dexter, I want you to kill the Brain Surgeon.
Dexter: I don’t want to.
Vogel: Please kill the Brain Surgeon.
Dexter: I will kill the Brain Surgeon.
Vogel: Kill all these serial killers.
Dexter: Okay. I found one named Zach Hamilton. He will die.
Vogel: Don’t kill Zach Hamilton.
Dexter: I NEED to kill Zach Hamilton.
Vogel: Don’t do it.
Dexter: I will not kill Zach Hamilton. I will teach him the code!
Vogel: Cool.
Dexter: He cannot be taught the code! I must kill him!
Vogel: Don’t.
Dexter: My mistake. He’s cool. I’ll teach him the code again.
Dexter: That guy you wanted me to kill wasn’t the Brain Surgeon. Instead, your SON is the Brain Surgeon! I will kill him!
Vogel: Don’t kill my son the Brain Surgeon. All he ever did was kill my other son and threaten my life.
Dexter: I NEED to kill him.
Vogel. I know, but don’t.
Dexter: Okay. (I’m really going to, though)
Vogel. What a relief.
Dexter. Look at this video of your son killing Zach Hamilton.
Vogel. The horror! Dexter, please kill my son the Brain Surgeon.
Dexter: Will do.
Brain Surgeon: You picked Dexter over me! I will kill you AND Dexter!
Dexter: Okay, now I REALLY need to kill Brain Surgeon!
Brain Surgeon: Sorry Dexter. Can we forget all this if I buy your condo?
Dexter: I don’t want to kill you, I want to bang my girlfriend.
Brain Surgeon. Okay, thanks for letting me go.
Dexter: Nope. I’m calling my sister right now to arrest you. Also, please don’t tell on me for my serial killing even though I told on you for all the brain surgery.
Found this amusing. The last season in a nutshell.[/spoiler]
All that being said, overall, it was a pretty solid series. It's one hell of a ride, that's for sure.
It just had the misfortune of having a [parasitic bomb] ending.
